Hooked from the beginning. Reminded me a lot of HBO’s Succession, and had a twist as satisfying as Feeney’s Rock, Paper, Scissors.

I did not love one of the reveals - made me sick to my stomach, but it fit within the plot and moved everything along.

Alana is a smart and sympathetic character and found her motives and actions exciting and at times relatable. The rest of the gang were little shits, but I enjoyed watching Alana face up against them. Gave an extra star for not being able to put this one down.

Well drawn characters, just the right amount of suspense and thrill.

I am so grateful that I’ve read several awesome books in a row! The last was The Opportunist by Elyse Friedman and I loved it!

Clever and well-written, the story had me hooked from the first page until the satisfying end.

When Alana Shropshire’s seventy-six-year-old father, Ed, starts dating Kelly, his twenty-eight-year-old nurse, a flurry of messages arrive from Alana’s brothers, urging her to help “protect Dad” from the young interloper. Alana knows that what Teddy and Martin really want to protect is their father’s fortune, and she tells them she couldn’t care less about the May–December romance. Long estranged from her privileged family, Alana, a hardworking single mom, has more important things to worry about.

But when Ed and Kelly’s wedding is announced, Teddy and Martin kick into hyperdrive and persuade Alana to fly to their father’s West Coast island retreat to perform one simple task in their plan to make the gold digger go away. Holy twists and turns!

I loved this book so much that I found myself thinking about when I wasn't devouring it. If you love books about nasty, unpredictable family dynamics, this will be a winner for you.

Up is down, left is right and all of it fit together stunningly, particularly the ending which is spectacularly satisfying.

If I’d known there would be so many ‘red herrings’, I would have brought a fishing pole. The author did an excellent job of entertaining by making me guess and guess again about characters and the conclusion.

Elyse Friedman tells a great story in her new book, The Opportunist. I engaged this story about a really dysfunctional group of people. This was a tricky one to figure out. I didn’t guess the ending which is always a plus. I loved he twists and turns and the crazy family dynamics. Many thanks to to NetGalley and to MIRA for the advanced reader copy.

This was an addicting read. I love a book where I flip flop in my opinions of the characters. Never ever did I suspect Alana and Kelly had a connection. Maybe there were breadcrumbs dropped, but I missed them. I would def read another title by this author.
