Good story, characters and plot. Recommend this to people who like to be sucked into a story that you can't put down. Will look for more by HR Kemp.

I am not sure how I feel about this book. It is certainly a timely ripped from the headlines story. The conspiracy theories abound now days. Laura has lost her husband and he was chasing a conspiracy trails. She was unaware until she stumbles upon his proof. Family and friends suddenly are not the safe relationships she treasured. Why does everyone want Tom's papers? The ending is exciting and full of action.

Lethal Legacy by HR Kemp is a standalone mystery/thriller involving corporate & government corruption and the mafia. This book moved a little slow for me, but I did enjoy the unveiling of the players. There were definitely some unexpected twists there.

The story was interesting and offered up some interesting characters. I thought the ending was outstanding!

When Laura's husband Tom dies suddenly, there is no lack of unfinished business left behind, particularly regarding his papers, apparently having been unable to let his work go. Then comes a burglar who also seemed to be interested exclusively in Tom's papers. What could have been going on?

Laura is thrown into a sinister new world where neither old nor new associates are as innocent or as harmless as they seemed originally, determined as she is to get to the bottom of What Tom had been trying to deal with before his death.

In parallel to Laura's story is that of John Masters, who after a car accident is no. longer what he seems either, after surgery to change his appearance.

As the plot thickens, and Tom's work involving dirty washing leading all the way to corruption in the highest places Laura comes face to face with the dilemma of who to shop to, without getting seriously burnt in the process.

This writer has a well developed sense of realpolitik with its grubby realities, cartels and vicious grabs for power., entreating more to speak out against these, whatever the cost. Laura is an unlikely heroine and apparently remarkably unaware of what lies beneath suburban surfaces, for a woman approaching sixty. Possibly the courage of a mother defending her cubs is one superb motivator, as her son proves also to have been dragged down into this nether world of organised criminals.

Part of the appeal of this well-crafted thriller lies in the way one reveal after a other allows for a whole new perspective on familiar figures. The writer also seems to possess a keen awareness of current political realities - another plus.

Lots of twist and turns that kept me reading to figure out who was the bad guys. I was surprised at how many there were. Did not see that coming at all.

One of the better thrillers set in Australia, with strong characters and a descriptive writing style which really draws the reader in. Plenty to keep you focused as the plot evolves, with some clues less obvious than others and a clever way of revealing who is reliable and who is not.

A political thriller about a woman’s journey to discover and uncover her husband’s secrets. Laura’s husband dies and she discovers that he was hiding secrets that pertains to his job. He never included her in his work life and she finds that he had his reasons. An engaging story, with drama, suspense and a great lead character.
