Detectives Kane and Alton Book 16

The rain had been falling for weeks when Black Rock Falls Sheriff, Jenna Alton, receives a panicked phone call from a local forest ranger. The lifeless body of a woman has been washed up on the banks of a swollen river. Rushing to the scene, Jenna and her Deputy, David Kane, find the young girl laying face up on the dirt, her long brown hair spilling out around her, her perfect pale skin showing no signs of a struggle. Leaning in for a closer look, she finds a jack of hearts playing card tucked into the girl's underwear. This was no accident - someone killed this innocent soul and left a twisted calling card.

I love this series and each new book is better than the previous one. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her team have a new murder case to solve. FBI Agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter are called out to help with the investigation. This is another action-packed rollercoaster ride. They are also dealing with the mudslides and flooding from the weeks of rainfall. The tension and suspense have been increased even more in this edge of your seat read. Filled with twists, this is another fantastic addition to the series. There are a few loose ends left hanging, but hopefully they will be tied up in the next book. Please D.K. Hood, don't leave us waiting too long for book #17. This book can be read as a standalone, but I recommend that you read the book in order, you won't be disappointed.

I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Her Bleeding Heart, the sixteenth novel to feature Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane of Black Rock Falls, Montana.

Amid raging storms a forest ranger finds a woman’s body. With no obvious trauma Jenna is inclining towards natural causes until she finds a Jack of hearts playing card tucked into her underwear. When a second body is found strangled in the back of her car with the same card Jenna starts to think incipient serial killer but all is not as it seems.

I enjoyed Her Bleeding Heart, which is an action packed read with some unexpected twists and turns. Quite often the reader can if not guess then anticipate the contours these twists will take, but they are a surprise in this novel and really quite clever.

The novel is told from both sides of the coin with Jenna and her team playing catch up to a well concealed killer using an alias. The motive is not in doubt nor the M.O. but the callousness still chills. Apart from the actual murders this is an online operation so be prepared for a whole new vocabulary and a world of new criminal opportunities. I’m not unfamiliar with the terms but the author fleshes out exactly what they mean and their practical applications. Every day’s a school day or so it seems to my ageing brain.

The plot moves at a fast clip at times, including a couple of incidents that have nothing to do with the investigation but serve to reinforce Jenna and Dave’s bond. I did feel, however, that it sagged a bit in the middle with too much discussion and not enough forward momentum. It’s only a prelude to the big twists in the last part of the novel. They are gobsmacking, audacious and clever, so well worth the wait and may be a set up for future novels.

Her Bleeding Heart is a good read that I can recommend.

Thank you so much Netgalley and the author for approving my request! I can barely contain my excitement. It must be my lucky week. First the Nikki Hunt series and now the latest book of Kane and Alton. What do you need more in life to be happy?

Philosophical questions aside, the mystery and the intensity of this book was amazing! I would've devoured it in one sitting if I had the time. The case focuses on cybercrime and cryptocurrency, nothing I've read before. You'll be intrigued, that's for sure. The murders are well planned. I've always been a huge fan of Rowley but I thought Rio's character was great in it.

It starts off with Kane being in trouble and Jenna going out to search him. I have to say I didn't like all of the conversations between Kane and Jenna which is sad because I really really love both of them. At the beginning, Kane was being - 'I'm very different, I'm very strong, I'm not like most men' like every five seconds. That kinda annoyed me. Then, Jenna was like I'm a strong, self sufficient woman. Don't help me unless I'm on my deadbed. I know she was trying to set a limit and stop Kane from being too much possessive and overprotective but maybe those scenes could have been tad bit better? Other than that, it is a very well-written and interesting book that you must read.

Also, I loved the dedication. It was heart warming! Definitely recommended❤️

I’d like to thank Bookouture and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Her Bleeding Heart’, book 16 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series written by D K Hood, in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Black Rock Falls is experiencing storms with torrential rains leading to flooding and mudslides but it doesn’t deter a killer who’s leaving a Jack of Hearts card with his victims’ bodies. When Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane’s investigations lead them to cybercrime, cryptocurrency and catfishing, they ask their friends in the FBI, Ty, Jo and Kato, for help with their list of possible suspects.

‘Her Bleeding Heart’ is another gripping thriller in the series and contains so much excitement, drama, suspense, action and twists and turns that I’ve been unable to put my Kindle down. It’s so enjoyable to once again meet up with Jenna, Dave and all their team at ‘Serial Killer Central’ or better known as Black Rock Falls who, after reading the sixteenth book, feel like old friends. This episode can be read as a standalone as at the beginning we’re given the history of Dave and Jenna, but I’ve loved reading about them from book one so if I was giving recommendations that’s where I’d start. This is a fantastic thriller that’s compulsive reading and with a cliffhanger of the as yet unidentified Tarot Killer I can’t wait for the next one.

🏞🌩Danger, danger, everywhere: thrilling with twists😧🤕

I'm not sure how the title jives with the plot, but it really does not matter. This is a thrilling, action-packed and unpredictable series repeatedly pitting the local police department and their FBI allies against twisted serial killers. I've read almost a dozen books in the series and I'm always waiting for the next.

But there's more than murder for Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband Deputy Dave Kane to contend with in Her Bleeding Heart. I really liked the extra bits of personal danger for Jenna and Dave built into this story. And, though newlyweds, they face some friction in their relationship. The murderer leads them on a merry dance and I did not anticipate how his scamming and violence against gullible women would end. The pace never relents and I found it a quick, captivating thrillride.

Characteristic of this rural Montana-set series, the weather and landscape really set an ominous, disaster-just-around-the-corner mood as a backdrop for the crimes. This time rain and flooding wrought havoc and made me happy I was sitting safe and dry indoors during the read😌.

Thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

Compelling Thriller;
I've already read the first 4 books with Sheriff Jenna Alton and was curious to see how the series unfolded in Volume 16. The likeable team is still there and has been supplemented by more people. I like it when you recognize the investigators, then you immediately feel at home in the thriller. The case develops according to the usual concept. The author succeeds in constantly developing new ideas, so that the mix of well-known investigators and a new case is pleasant to read. This case is exceptional and very interesting. The solution leaves room for a sequel. I couldn't find any minor weaknesses of the first volumes and am very satisfied with the book. Pleasant entertainment with a team of investigators that at best you already know or get to know. It's not a problem to start with volume 16 in the series, each case is self-contained.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for my copy of this book.

Sheriff Jenna Alton and deputy Dave Kane are married. The book starts with Dave suffering memory loss and forgetting all about Jenna. This was so frustrating, just as they started their happily ever after. Thankfully it wasn’t a major storyline and was resolved quickly.

A woman is found dead with a playing card as a calling card. Jenna and the team investigate and when a second woman is found dead they fear a serial killer is yet again in Black rock falls.

Jenna’s team is a well oiled machine. I really enjoy how each of them has a job to do and does it well.

This series is one of my favourites and I can never put them down. This was no exception. It ticked all the boxes for a thriller, lots of twists and turns and a sting in the tail.

Highly recommend reading the whole series or even just this book as a standalone.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily. Wow! This one packs quite the punch! Black Rock Falls seems to be a magnet for psychopathic killers, but Kane and Alton are the best team in the country to hunt predators. Black Rock Falls has actually become known as Serial Killer Central. In this book someone is preying on lonely, wealthy single women. When the first body is found washed up on the riverbank, it is not immediately apparent that she is a victim of a murder until they find the killer's calling card, which is literally a playing card - the jack of hearts. Kane, Alton and company have to also battle the elements from horrific mudslides to murderous, torrential rain all while trying to find a predator in their midst. The duo of Kane and Alton and their team are driven and highly intelligent investigators who want to protect the good citizens of Black Rock Falls. The characters in this series are some of my favorite characters in any book series that I read. D. K. Hood does a great job of filling in each characters' past so that even new readers of this series understand the background of the characters. D. K. Hood is also a master of deceit while leading you down one direction and then taking you another direction. As usual this was an action packed and tense thriller. The suspense and intrigue as well as the mystery will have you speeding through the pages, and leave you wanting more! Twists, turns, suspense and mystery make this book and this entire series addictive to readers! I am always ready for the next one in this series!

O M W - For us long term readers you really sucker punched us in the first couple chapters. Mercy me, I whined, I said no, no, no. If this is a first time read for you, you will not be lost but some of the intense feelings, meanings will be lessen. When Jenna addresses a situation second time around I was hurting for her and high fiveing her class. She is one gutsy lady. Anyone else hang on during our fast paced ride in the beast? Lord this had so much. The usual creepy serial killer that DK Hood always manages to put a spin on so they are new and fresh. Talk about creepy....towards the end, I think that is going to come back and bite us in the tush somewhere down the line. As Jenna and Dave battle the flooding town, look for the killers, investigate, FBI Jo and Carter are brought in to help. Love when we see everyone involved in someway shape or form. The whole team, Shane, Wolfe,Rowley, Rio and lets not forget Duke and Pumpkin. Duke I hear you, but dogs are just as petrified of thunder and storms. There were moments that had me on the edge of my seat, moments that made my heart sore and just an all around great read. Is it time for book 17 yet? Thank you for the arc #D.K.Hood #Bookouture #HerBleedingHeart I freely volunteer my thoughts an opinions.

Another murder in serial killer central – Sheriff Jenna Alton and (now husband) deputy Dave Kane can not catch a break. This case in this book was well constructed with new developments every few pages and I really liked how the team worked together.
While I definately enjoyed reading a bit more about their personal life, I wasn’t a fan of the incident in the beginning and it felt a bit like a déjà-vu. However this case was so unique it totally made up for that beginning and I really liked the generall idea behind this case. It was fascinating and I hope this storyline will come up again in the future.
I am looking forward to the next book and spending time with Jenna and Kane again!
I would like to thank NetGalley, Bookouture and the author D.K. Hood for supplying a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review.

Torrential rain is causing floods and mudslides all over Black Rock Falls but that doesn't mean a killer isn't prowling around the town again. When a body is discovered it is first believed that the victim fell in the river and was swept away by the flood waters but the autopsy shows she was poisoned and a murder investigation is started. Sheriff Jenna Alton and Deputy Dave Kane and their team try to trace the woman's movements but all they can discover is that she was due to meet someone for a blind date. When another woman's body is discovered the team start to think that they may have another serial killer on their hands. The only links between the two victims are that they were both comparatively wealthy and were both arranging to meet someone from an online dating app on the days they were killed.

Another great instalment in this series.

Thanks to Netgalley, Bookouture and D K Hood for the ARC of this book in return for an honest review.

Her Bleeding Heart by D.K. Hood is book #16 in the Detectives Kane and Alton series. Once again Black Rock Falls lives up to its nickname of Serial Killer Central. Sheriff Jenna Alton and her husband Deputy David Kane, along with their excellent team, have another "almost" serial killer case to solve. Two dead women with the Jack of Hearts left on their bodies. The dark web being used. Cryptocurrency. Dangerous mudslides. This team has faced some tough characters as Jenna can personally attest to during this investigation.

I totally enjoyed this book. The characters are favorites of mine as this series is one of my favorites.

Watch out for the twist toward the end!

There's an awful storm in Black Rock Falls causing flooding and mudslides and we all know that means Jenna and her team are going to have another serial killer to hunt!

Non stop action and tension along with a delightful twist kept me up reading into the night. I can't wait to read what case the team has next, especially since the author's note tells us it takes place during Halloween!

Thank you Netgalley and Bookouture for this ARC.

would like to thank netgalley and the publishers for letting me read this amazing book

d.k hood has done it again...jenna and dave have their work cut out for them when their town is hit with torrential rain that causes all sorts of issues from mud slides to the river banks bursting their banks

but the first shock is when dave goes to sort out the perimeter fence around their home and goes missing for a couple of hours....sending jenna out looking for him....

but its the appearance of a dead woman found near a river with a playing card down her front that has the police force looking for a murderer....

there is so much happening in this book and i dont want to give to many spoilers but this is a jaw dropping book that also brings the fbi into their investigations....

but this author doesnt mind putting her characters through the mill and there are tough times ahead for jenna

wow i love this series and there is never a dull moment...i cant wait for the next book in this brilliant series

I am amazed that at book 16, the author manages to keep this series consistently high-quality and fresh and doesn't resort to retreading stale formulas. In this installment, Black Rock Falls is facing several problems. Mother Nature is pounding the area with torrential rains leading to mudslides and floding and isolating the town. Sheriff Jenna Alton's husband, Kane, is suffering from amnesia after being near a lightning strike. And finally, of course, a serial killer is letting loose. The serial killer is using the web to target wealthy women and converting their money to cryptocurrency. Jenna and her colleagues must solve the case in these challenging conditions. A suspenseful, nail-bitingly good entry in this series!

Well it is back to Black Rock Falls and serial killer central! I really do enjoy this series. I cannot believe it is book #16 already! Black Rock Falls is a major magnet for psychos, serial killers, kidnappers and crazy people, but it's also home to Sheriff Jenna Alton, her now husband Deputy Dave Kane, Medical Examiner Shane Wolfe, deputies Zac Rio and Jake Rowley, along with FBI Agents Carter and Jo Wells. A bonus is Duke and Pumpkin the adorable fur babies.

This time Jenna and Kane hit the floor running by hunting a serial killer of wealthy women who empties their bank accounts by converting it to untraceable cryptocurrency just before they are murdered. Was it one person doing the killing ... or is it two? A Jack of Hearts playing card is always left on the body as a signature. As the bodies pile up, Jenna is soon convinced that there is something missing. A thread that doesn't fit. The playing card changes and the team are now thinking that this could be the serial killer that the FBI has been hunting for over a decade. Is Jenna and Kane now chasing America's most dangerous killer?

Never a dull moment in Black Rock Falls and definitely not to be missed!

Shout out to #NetGalley, D.K. Hood and @bookouture for an opportunity to read this book.

Book 16 in this fantastic series and it's just as fresh and thrilling as the earlier books. I don't know how she does it but the series just gets better.

Called to the banks of the swollen river during a torrential storm, Jenna and the team find the body of a young woman. With no marks or obvious injury is it an accident or something more sinister?

I was hooked from the first page and I absolutely raced through this cracking book.

No spoilers but wow things just got interesting.

I love this series and can't wait for the next installment.

Welcome to Black Rock Falls, the home of the serial killer!

While you could easily read this book as a stand alone, there is a certain richness to the story if you have read the series as the characters and what is happening in their lives is as big a draw to this series as the fresh new mystery delivered each time.

Lots happening in book 16 that should keep you racing through the pages, from a hunt for serial killers, Kane suffering memory loss, Jenna being attacked, Poppy continuning her inappropirate behavious, and another killer out there that has alluded the capture for over a decade, no doubt sure to make a return in a future book.

Thanks Netgally for the Advance Review Copy.

Another MUST READ in this gripping and very addictive series. Being back in Black Rock Falls you know that you are in for a heart stopping race to get the killer. In her latest book Her Bleeding Heart the tension and suspense is on another level. I have been with this duo since the beginning and I still get goose bumps when a new book released as I never know what to expect. My advice is cancel everything and tuck into another heart stopping, fast paced crime thriller with wonderful well fleshed out and believable characters. Just read it!!!!!
Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
