This is a page turner from the get go! Her books do not disappoint! The book goes between past and present. The past being a young girl who is in bad shape being found on a bus stop bench. He takes her in hoping to get her some help and find out who she is. In the present are Elizabeth and Howard who ate fostering sweet 5 year old Joe who just wants to be loved and make you happy. Howard is not your ideal foster father, being he is a very angry and hot tempered person. One morning, little Joe goes missing and all the finger pointing begins. Be prepared to lose sleep. This is a book you won't want to put down. Highly recommend!!

Okie dokie. First off, this book had fantastic writing. I was hooked immediately and it kept me interested the whole time. I love love loved the different points of view, Gordon's was so well written it was breaking my heart for him.
I struggled a bit because I was a foster parent and it's so hard to read/hear about the bad foster families. There are good ones out there! But, yes, I know that wasn't the point of this book. My heart just broke.
The abuse in this book is tough to read because it happens during the WHOLE book. So be very prepared going in.
All in all, great book!

Thank you to NetGalley for my ARC of The Foster Family.
The Foster Family is a domestic thriller about married couple Elizabeth and Howard and their Foster son, Joe. While on vacation Joe goes missing. It is told from the alternating perspectives of Elizabeth and Gordon, their elderly neighbor in the throes of dementia.
Thrillers are my favorite, and this is the perfect type of thriller: quick pacing, short chapters, alternating viewpoints to keep things interesting, and not too long. It was a quick and exciting read. There are some heavy topics that are explored with sensitivity and without over the top gore thrown in for shock value.
I was a little disappointed in the ending's random romance, because it seemed out of place, but overall I really liked this book.

Thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC.
This was my first novel by this author and I really liked it.
The writing kept me hooked and there was enough intrigue throughout the book.
Coming to the story itself, I did not like few parts, mainly the need to drag Howard's behavior. We've learnt all we could by 40% of the book. I would have liked to see something more from Elizabeth in the present instead of just learning her past. Also, Her character could have been much better and I would have felt more connected to her.
Overall, I would read more books by this author.

"Sometimes the most perfect families are hiding the most terrible secrets"
This was an engaging, quick and twisty read where I really wasn't sure how it was all going to turn out. The story was engaging, though heartbreaking, it was a read that kept me glued to the pages. I especially loved that the story was set in Sydney, Australia. This was a suspenseful story that will keep you guessing. The plot, characters and twists really had me immersed. Definitely recommended!
Thank you Netgelley & Nicole Trope for the opportunity to read this ARC.

The Foster Family by Nicole Trope A domestic drama with a multitude of characters and shifting timelines that made it difficult to follow. References to physical and verbal abuse. A solid read with a credible ending.
Thank you to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to preview the book.

shocking... is best to describe this story.
I quite enjoyed the book.
it was abit slow at frist but after you get into the book you really understand why it went slow.
the book spoke alot of events that happen in today's world and how we tend to keep things locked away cause we scared or want to be selfish.
I love that the story showed a women who knew that she needed to get out of the toxic relationship she was in.
there are quite a few pov that take place but when you read each one you really get a sense of the whole story.

A parent’s worst nightmare…a missing child. Foster parents Harold and Elizabeth appear to be the perfect couple. But looks can be quite deceiving. While on holiday, little Joe, their foster son, goes missing. Neighbor Gordon knows something is amiss within their household but his dementia is interfering in him helping with the case. A great storyline filled with a variety of interesting characters!

I a,ways know I’m in for a great read with any Nicole Trope novel. This latest domestic noir thriller centers around a little boy I fell in love with, Joe, who has bounced around foster care and a drugged out biological mother still at the tender age of five. Noe he’s placed in the perfect home and family and as we suspect immediately, looks are deceiving and people are monsters. A sweet old man, Gordon, lives opposite the vacation home they have taken for a month. Elizabeth snd her husband Howard have fostered before. This is a heartbreaking and ultimately satisfying story of the system, abusive men and the women who love them. Recommended.

An engrossing read. I will say that it took a moment to get a reading flow with all of the characters and time changes. It was intriguing. More of a domestic thriller. Don't expect a real TWIST but it is a good tale.

This was my first Nicole Trope book and I’d like to thank her and NetGalley for the ARC copy. This is an intriguing plot. It took me a little while to get into it as the characters and timeline first had me confused. BUT, hang on, once I did, I could not put it down. It’s a domestic thriller that had me sympathizing with some characters and so angry with others. It has plot twists that kept me guessing. I recommend this one if you enjoy a domestic thriller. It comes out September 21st.

This was both a lovely book and a sad book at the same time.
The book focuses on the foster care system, and the experiences of two particular children. Both have been placed with the same family, more than 10 years apart. The foster mother is a loving gentle woman, but her husband has a demanding personality. He sets strict rules on the children, and often resorts to violence.
The story unfolds within different time periods of each chapter, until the all back stories are revealed, and then, the stunning climax.
This was an engaging story with both likable and deplorable characters. Nicole Trope wrote another terrific book! I thoroughly enjoyed it!
5 stars!
Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for the advanced copy!

This is a thriller about a foster family that is hiding a secret. When they go on holiday and their foster son disappears shocking facts are revealed about what is happening within this family! Many twists and turns are revealed in the book!
Thanks to Nicole Trope and Bookouture for the book

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC.
This author never disappoints with domestic thrillers. This one was long winded at times but still good. If you like her books or enjoy a decent domestic thriller then don’t pass this one up.

I love this book and the characters (except Howard)! It was a real page turner! I loved all of the twists and turns in the book and that it was all neatly tied up at the end! There was a lot of description that I felt wasn’t really necessary to the story. I still loved it so much! Great plot!

Thanks to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for the ARC of this book. This is my first book by this author. Some of my "book" friends had read and liked her so I thought I would give it a try. I liked it. The characters are well written, and I liked the perspective the book was written in.
A totally addictive, twist-packed psychological thriller about family secrets, a marriage on the edge, and the deadly line between love and hate. Perfect for fans of Lisa Jewell, Liane Moriarty and Freida McFadden.
4 stars

Every time I went to put this one down, I was picking it back up moments later for more! The characters are well written - some you will find endearing, others you will dispise! It's told from multiple points of view and different time lines, but I felt it was easy to follow and was satisfied by how things tied together in the end. Based on this book I'd certainly read others by this author.
Thanks to netgalley and the publisher for the arc ebook.

It seems you can count on Nicole Trope for a weird domestic thriller.. it was unputdownable [is this even a word lol] I devoured it in a day.
The story flips back and fourth between two storyline that if you're not careful could be confusing but eventually towards the end it all merges and we see how both stories are linked.
It was sick, twisty, engaging and a super quick read. Absolutely superb.

Another great read from this author who never fails to write a story full of intrigue, suspense and twists,as always the characters are the heart of her stories and Gordon the neighbour with dementia is brilliantly written worth reading the book just for him,Elizabeth was another character to grab attention and make an opinion on quickly,,,,,
Tense and exciting and as always very readable

Elizabeth & Howard have been married for twenty years. Unable to have children, they decide to foster. When it seems like five-year-old Joe is going to be in their lives forever - that they may be able to adopt him - Elizabeth couldn't be more thrilled. This is exactly what she needs & what her husband needs to finally be family, to finally get it right. But, when Joe goes missing and it seems like her husband knows more than he's letting on, Elizabeth realizes that some things never change.
Nicole Trope is an auto-buy author for me. She can write about every day people in such a riveting way that I'm willing to go down any plotline she'll lead me to.
You want to talk about great characterization? Let's chat about Elizabeth, a woman so desperate to be a loving and nurturing mom that she's willing to put a child in harm's way. Oxymoronic, right? And it works so well because I was FURIOUS with her through much of the novel while simultaneously rooting for her.
The character of Gordon, the old man from across the street with dementia, was so well written that my heart tugged through all of his chapters. I absolutely loved him. I want people to read this book just for the chance to meet him.
I was satisfied with the twist here, although I did guess it. I find that I often guess Trope's twists, but I'm still racing to the end to see if I'm right. And, as I mentioned, I really love her writing and the way she lays out a story, so I'm never disappointed to have figured it out.
Overall, another engaging read by one of my favorite authors.
Thank you to Netgalley & Bookouture for my early copy! This hits shelves September 21st.
