This book really breaks down a plant-based ketogenic diet. It offers a meal plan and breaks down macros. There are a lot of recipes that call for cauliflower.

I loved this vegetarian take on the keto diet. It lays out the diet, plans, and provides many recipes. I wish there were more photographs, but this is a great place to start!

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC. All thoughts are my own.

This was an okay cookbook. I didn't really care for the recipes enough to try any and I'm not sure if I agree with the keto diet, personally. Sadly, this wasn't a cookbook for me.

Everything you need to start a plant based keto diet.

Pros:
*Meal plan to get you going
*Relatively easy to find ingredients (or substitutions)
*Each recipe has a cheat sheet code to let you know. (I.e. 30 mins, 1 pot, worth the wait)

Cons:
*I wish there were more pictures.
* Some recipes called for a lot of ingredients but you could totally skip those. (I’m grasping at straws for negatives honestly.)

All and all a super helpful book to go keto & plant based.

This easy to read, well laid out book takes you through the basics of a keto diet and explains how you can adapt these principles to a plant based diet. Then you get a 14-day diet plan with all the recipes, shopping lists and meal prep spelled out for you. There’s a great emphasis on nuts and cauliflower but the recipes sound appealing, are easy to make and come with suggestions for variations, flavour-boosts, flex-tips and ingredient swaps. A breakdown the calories and macros is a helpful extra. So much healthier than the saturated fat filled version of a keto diet, I found this diet book to be appealing and inspiring. Thanks, NetGalley, for a free cope of this book in exchange for an honest review. Highly recommend.

There was some interesting recipes in this cookbook. But there were also recipes that are not ketogenic.

So many people that are on a ketogenic diet plan tend to over do it on meat. I am always looking for more ways to incorporate vegetarian meals in my life and there are some good options here. There are a few recipes included that are not necessarily ketogenic, but the author makes a note and leaves it up to the reader whether or not to utilize these recipes.

Plant-Based Ketogenic Diet Cookbook is a recipe and meal plan collection by Amber St. Peter. Released 2nd Aug 2022 by Callisto, it's 248 pages and is available in paperback and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout. I've really become enamored of ebooks with interactive formats lately. For Kindle Unlimited subscribers, this book is currently included in the KU subscription library to borrow and read for free.

This is a well written and organized collection of recipes for keto adherents who also wish to incorporate more plant based foods in their diets.

The introduction covers the basics of the foods, cooking and essential accessories as well as an intro to the keto lifestyle/diet, including a basic primer on ketosis, nutrients, tips, ingredients, tools, supplies, and how-to.

The following chapters include the 14 day meal plan and preparations, followed by the recipes arranged thematically: breakfasts, snacks & sides, salads & handhelds, soups & stews, hearty meals, and desserts & staples. I found the recipes inclusive and varied. It's important to note that many of the recipes use keto non-compliant ingredients (orange juice, agave nectar!, maple syrup, etc), although (presumably) the end results are keto-friendly.

Ingredient measurements are supplied in imperial (American) standard measurements only. There's a conversion chart for metric measures included in the appendix. The nutritional information: fat, carbs, protein, fiber content, macronutrients, etc are listed for the recipes as well as serving sizes. Each recipe has a header with special labels such as one-pot, worth the wait (takes a bit longer to prepare), 30 minute meal, etc; with a short description of the recipe and approximate prep-times. Extra tips or recipe alternatives are listed in text boxes in the recipes. The recipes themselves are fairly straightforward and are made for the most part with easily sourced ingredients (not all though, sweeteners for example, will likely need to be sourced from specialists). Many are very simple, none of them are overly complex.

The photography is not abundant; only about 10% of the dishes are accompanied by a photo, but the photographs which are included are clear and well done. I wish there had been more photographs and serving suggestions, but I do understand that extra photography increases the price of book projects very quickly and the lack is not crippling because this is a fairly simple recipe collection. The resource list includes interactive links to a number of relevant online resources about keto and the health benefits.

Three and a half stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes

I did not attempt the 14-day plan. However, I have tried some of the recipes. They are pretty easy to make and they taste great. Even if you are not looking to follow a new diet; this book will appeal to many others like vegetarians, vegans, and anyone looking to eat less meat. It includes shopping lists and sample menus. I do wish that there would be more pictures.

Loved it, excellent book.

As a very picky eater, I really do enjoy the plant based diet. But sometimes it's hard to eat keto or low carb. This book has a lot of info about the keto diet to start with. There are meal plans and staples lists.

This book focuses on tailoring recipes to find a meal plan that fits you. These recipes are plant based and focus on different meals. The book includes a meal plan that spans two weeks using recipes from the book to plan around. If you're strict keto there are recipes in this book that rely on a lot of carbs so it may not fit for you.

This is a very user-friendly and makes it easy to get started on a keto diet (a plant-based one). It's a 14 day plan that eases you into keto with some high and some low carb recipes. Those who are strict on keto may find a lot of the recipes to be too high in carbs (averaging 25 carbs or so with recipes up to 95 carbs). The author believes in compromises and so you have recipes with e.g., maple syrup, oats, agave syrup, etc. There is also a heavy reliance on almond milk/flour (which is normal for keto but also problematic for nut allergies and intolerances) and cauliflower. Trust me, you'll really want to like cauliflower if you follow this plan.

The recipes follow a vegan-philosophy: no eggs, milk, dairy, meats. Instead, there are a lot of nuts in all the recipes in order to ensure the protein count stays high. The recipes for the most part are basic: what you would want to make shopping easy and preparation fast. There's nothing exotic but again, you know that if one of the recipes is a baked apple-pecan oatmeal, it will be higher in carbs than recommended for achieving ketosis. Again, the author believes in adding some higher carb days in with the lower carbs since plant-based eating is so healthy anyway that the higher carbs aren't coming from bad sources like candy or processed food.

The book has a quick introduction to understanding keto and then goes on to get you ready for starting the diet. Shopping lists and preparation are all covered so you can start the two weeks easily. Plenty of options are given for each meal plan to customize to your own tastes. Some also include extra servings for leftovers that can be reheated or used as snacks (or repurposed into a new meal).

There are only a small amount of photographs for the recipes. Each has large type in 3 colors: blue, red, black. At the top of each recipe are keywords (e.g., quick prep, 5-ingredient, worth the wait) in red and then the title of recipe. Underneath are serving size, prep time, cook time. A small paragraph gives more information about the recipe (honestly, usually just hyping it up). Ingredients are in bold italics. Steps are numbered and fairly short and not clunky. Underneath the steps there are tips for substitutions, preparation, etc. Nutrition info (calories, total fat, total carbs, fiber, net carbs, protein) and then macro information (percentage of fat, protein carbs) for each serving.

Recipes include: strawberry cheesecake smoothie bowls, southwestern scramble, whole roasted cauliflower, tomato-basil soup, zesty jicama salad, stuffed bell peppers, etc. Cauliflower (as rice, as a vegetable side, and even as a 'steak') features prominently in the dinners: 4 of the 7 dinners on the first week feature cauliflower in the title/main ingredient.

For those starting out, this is a solid beginning. It's all laid out cleanly for you and you don't have to read or do a lot. For those already on keto looking for more plant-based options, it's ok. There isn't a great variety and the dishes are meant to be simple to ease the transition into keto eating. I would also argue that a lot aren't really keto at all, just healthier eating. So those who really want to lose a lot of weight fast, this may not be the best option (though you should still have solid weight loss on this diet).

I liked that the book is about compromise and tailoring the meals toward your own tastes. I also really like that it makes going keto very friendly and easy for those looking to get into that kind of diet. The author notes that a plant-based keto diet is much more restrictive than a regular keto but with the benefits of better end health and a better result for the environment. The book is not preachy about keto or plant based eating/environment concerns. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

I'm on a strict keto diet and many of the recipes in this book I was not able to use, unfortunately. I wanted to like this book because I need to incorporate more plant-based foods.

I’ve been looking for ways to reduce meat while doing Keto, so I thought this would be a great book to read. Unfortunately, most of the recipes are too high in carbs and use non Keto ingredients. I’m a strict Keto gal and this isn’t the book for me.

I'm always looking for new ways to have a more plant based died, and I have also found that a keto style of eating works for me. Unfortunately for me, I also have to follow a FODMAP diet so I have to take inspiration from this book and modify it to fit my needs. I would have liked it more if every recipe had a photograph to go with it. mostly because I'm a very visual person. However, I did appreciate how simple the cooking instructions were which is just as important.

I understand this is a plant-based but it's supposed to also be keto. So, I am not sure why numerious recipes are too high in carbs and use ingredients like oats, corn starch, honey, agave nectar, fruit juice, dried fruit, and many more. Yeah, not keto friendly.
