Thank you to Avon and HarperVoyager for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Moorewood Family Rules is a romcom taking place in the context of a family known for their generations of conmen and conwomen - and the member that they betrayed, who has returned full of spite and ready to cause a stir. The POV switches between multiple characters, and they're all well fleshed out and three dimensional. Annika especially is an excellent character with an arc that I thorougly enjoyed following, even though I fully didn't expect to (let's just say... Annika contains multitudes and I judged a book by its cover).

The setting and characters were great. The plot, however, was lacking for me. Not a lot happens, and the romance isn't anything to write home about. The book does an excellent job of dissecting family obligation, lies, secrets, betrayals, and growth even when it hurts. The main characters have to accept and endure some uncomfortable truths to grow as people, and it's great to see. I just wish there had been more hijinks, mysteries, plot devices... something to drive things a bit more. The glimpses we got of those things were great, I just wanted more.

Moorewood Family Rules by HelenKay Dimon is a rom-com novel about a family of con-artists who get what they deserve. Jillian, the family financier who goes to prison in order to help her family end its con-game, creates an elaborate heist, not to steal from others like she was raised to do, but to steal from her own family in order to save them from their own schemes. As Jillian navigates death threats from her own family, she hires a bodyguard to keep her safe, in more ways than one.

I really enjoyed this book by HelenKay Dimon. The premise of the book is very good. I really liked the idea of a con-artist family being conned by their own blood. I liked Jillian as a character and enjoyed her plans to get back at her family. I also really enjoyed Anika, Jillian’s cousin who gets her own point of view in the novel. Being inside her head was my favorite part of the book and I thought she was the most well-developed character.

As much as I really liked this book, I thought that the relationship between Beck and Jillian was very rushed and forced. I didn’t find myself rooting for them or eager to find out what was going to happen between them. The way the relationship was written just wasn’t for me. In addition, all the characters (with the expectations of Jillian and Anika) didn’t feel fully developed to me. Overall, the book premise is such a great idea, but the characters, plot, and ending needed to be flushed out just a little bit more. As I approached the end of the book, the storyline felt flat. This was disappointing to me because who doesn’t love a book about con-artists!

After finishing Moorewood Family Rules, I give it three out of five stars.

Thank you so much to Avon HarperCollins Publishers and NetGalley for providing me this ARC, always a pleasure to leave a honest review for your publications!

This was a fun read, kinda reminded me a little bit of knives out. I will say I didnt connect with any of the characters, it was really hard to tell them apart and the pacing felt a little slow. I did love the beginning but it started to drag about halfway through.

I will say this was a very quick read, but POV writing is just not for me! This was a great plot, and though it drags it does pick up at the end.

Also beck, who is a grumpy, bodyguard??? hell yes

I found this book to be a lot of fun to read, sure the book has romance but the real standout for me was the main character's almost battle of wits with the rest of her family. I loved the occasional point of view changes from our lead to other members of the family as well as the fun twists and turns that the story has. Overall I found the book to be a blast to read and loved the characters.

I really loved this book and thought it was really funny. The characters were well developed and distinctive. The plot line had me hooked from the first chapter. This book was so much fun and so different from a lot of other family dramas I’ve read!

I really tried to like this book, but I couldn’t connect with any of the characters. I found this book incredibly slow for my taste. The POV was super confusing and hard for me to follow.

I really liked both the plot and characters of this book. The people are complicated and the story is fun. But the execution was wonky. The pacing was off and a bit confusing. I think too much was shoved into too short of a time and too short of a book. It’s rare I say I think a book needs to be longer, but this could have used some more space. Dialogue was used to give background, but it felt forced. Taking the time to explain key points outright would be worth the extra words. There was some also some inconsistencies, but I’m hopeful those will be worked out in the final printing.

The Moorewoods are a troublesome lot. The type of trouble you can't look away from. This was the perfect blend of mystery, romance, and snark. Jillian gives off bad boss energy as she returns from prison and attempts to have her family go straight. Can she get her family in line and stay alive? Moorewood Family Rules is entertaining and enjoyable. If you liked the t.v. series Leverage, you will enjoy this book!

Moorewood Family Rules follows Jillian Moorewood, back from prison, after returning to her grifting family (the reason she was sent to prison in the first place). Jillian gives them an ultimatum: end the "family business" or face the consequences. Fearing for her safety, Jillian is convinced to hire a security guard, and well, you can probably guess where that is going:)

I was so excited for this book. I was expecting chaos, I was expecting 4D chess, I was expecting to be thrilled and bamboozled... and I just wasn't. It felt like the majority of this book was Jillian threatening to do something™ to force the family to go legit. There were also some chapters thrown in from Anika's point of view, which were interesting but sporadic. I almost would've rather just kept to Jillian's POV to make some of the twists a bit more mysterious. There were many subplots that didn't really pique my interest and weren't fully fleshed out, which was distracting from the main plot.

The characters are fun, there are people you root for and people you love to hate, but a lot of them fell a bit flat. The romance was alright, it's a subplot and fade-to-black, so if that is/isn't your thing, there you have it. I did enjoy the banter. That was fun. Although, a solid chunk of it was "your family is messed up," "You don't know the half of it."

The book is more about family relations than grifting and watching a family get their just desserts, which was disappointing based on the marketing. I think it was okay, but it didn't wow me. There was a lot of missed potential in my opinion.

Fun, simple, and moderately wacky, Moorewood Family Rules is a lot more com than rom and a quick read.

Many thanks to Avon and NetGalley for sending me an e-arc in exchange for my honest review!:)

This book promised to deliver a combination of Oceans 8 and Knives Out and with the cover, I was super excited! Unfortunately it fell flat for me.

Our cast of characters were great (Great Aunt Patricia has my heart) and Jillian, our MC, was easy to like and root for. But it felt like most of the book was comedic Moorewood family banter and not really much plot. Honestly I blame the description for promising Knives Out and Ocean’s 8 and then not delivering, if I hadn’t had that expectation going in … well I probably wouldn’t have requested the book as this kind of drama really just isn’t my preferred reading genre.

Jillian's back.... back from prison and demanding everyone knows that it's time to pay up for past wrong. The Moorewoods have made a life and legacy of perfecting the art of the con and passing those skills to each generation. The family thought they had set up the ultimate con when they sent Jillian to prison in an an effort to take control of the family fortune, but the three years she spent on the inside gave Jillian plenty of time to flip the game.

I loved this book! Healthy doses of humor, suspense, romance and revenge made it a page turner. It was a unique storyline, and I cannot really think of a read a like-which makes it that much better of a book for me. I recommend this one if you need a perfect weekend escape read.

One thing that was weak was that the plot could of been better but I definitely did enjoy how the MC is a con artist and her journey goes from there

Thank you NetGalley, Avon, and HelenKay Dimon for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

I have to say what really drew me into this book was the cover, it is absolutely gorgeous and gave my high expectations. That being said, a good cover, doesn’t always mean a good book. I won’t sit here and say I hated it, but it was not a favorite for me.

I found the story to be rather slow and it felt like the story didn’t pick up until almost three quarters of the way into the book. It was an easy read, but I didn’t find myself wanting to keep reading. I love a dysfunctional family as much as the next person, but this felt over done and forced at times. The drama did hold the story together, but it just wasn’t enough for me. Unfortunately I would not recommend this one.

I was really excited to read this due to the mixture of comedy and mystery, but unfortunately this was not that. 50% through the story and I was not entertained. What was the plot? What was going on? It seemed like a drama banter between family members and that’s all which is quite disappointing. There was character development which I love but I think the plot was missing action, mystery and fun. The ending of the book was the best part due to the wrap up.

Although I did have some issues with the book, overall I found it to be a fun, quick read about a very dysfunctional family. I liked the pacing and I couldn’t help but love the string-cheese-loving Great Aunt Patricia.

Thank you NetGalley and HarperCollins Publishers, Avon and Harper Voyager, for this digital arc in exchange for my honest review which is not affiliated with any brand.

Dysfunctional families are nothing new. You have the "crazy uncle", the "black sheep", the one that parties a bit too much. Those are normal, sure. When HelenKay Dimon introduces the reader to the Moorewoods, an entirely different definition of dysfunction is created. The Moorewoods were formed when a con man married a rich socialite. That con spawned into another, and another, and another. Pretty soon the whole family is adding more to the family fortune with these cons. They are just that good. That is until the new leader of the family, Jillian, is arrested by the FBI and sent to jail. What she was really doing when arrested was trying to get her family to go legitimate. There is more than enough money to invest in things that would yield a ton of money, and there is no stealing and conning involved.

All of the other members of the Moorewoods (who by the way all live in the same house!) want nothing to do with this reformed life proposition. When Jillian returns from prison, she gives them an ultimatum: change your ways or get kicked out with no more money. Because of some attempts at taking Jillian "out", she hires a bodyguard, and the whole family goes crazy. There is manipulation, deceit, epic banter, and love for self and family. I won't spoil the ending, but I will say this: I HOPE so much that there is another book starring Jillian and the bodyguard.

Thank you Avon and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this eARC!

The cover of this book is stunning and caught my eye, which lead me to learning about the premise of this story, which sounded SO promising! I love Knives Out and Ocean's 8 so I couldn't wait!

While the overall story was slow, Jillian and cast of characters were fun, and the Knives-Out-style humor was definitely there. The first 60%ish felt like it dragged, but the ending was worth it.

Overall, I wish this book had a little bit more going on with as exciting of a premise it possesses.

It has to be said, the cover is absolutely gorgeous and really caught my eye. I love the comic cover style that is so popular right now.
The story was a little slow and while it was action packed, the action lacked OOMPH. The characters were actually really interesting, but I didn't feel like I got to know any of them very well. This felt more like a prequel to a slew of books about each character where you get into more depth and detail, but it was a bit lacking in this book.
If you like family drama and light mystery, you might enjoy this one!

Thank you to netgalley for an ARC to review.

I was intrigued by the premise of this book- Jillian is part of a dysfunctional con artist family and took the fall for them. Now she’s out of prison and back to get them to clean up their acts or get out. The romance aspect was rushed and not well done. I also did not particularly connect with any of the characters. All in all an interesting story line that could have been developed better. Thank you #NetGalley for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for and honest review.

Moorewood Family Rules is about the conniving Moorewood Family that make their living off of conning wealthy individuals into a relationship and then stealing from them. The one person that will attempt to stop their ways after 3 years in prison is finally out and ready to take action. Introducing Jillian,..the martyr of the family that controls the finances of everyone living in her house. With a full house of cons the people that she looks to includes her sister, Kelby (a long time family worker), and a new ugly hot body guard (Beck). As Jillian attempts to stop her family from their unhealthy ways she finds herself being threatened left and right by her twin cousins (Anika and Astrid) and her uncle Jay. As the family starts to turn against each other, Beck and Jillian are busy finding out which of her family members turned her in and got her sent to prison. As the two work together the growing attraction to her body guard changes her from seeing him as ugly hot to potential boyfriend material.

I give this book 3/5 starts because I found it to be a slow and dragging read. I wasn't shocked by the surprises that were made in the book and it didn't leave me with questions that I was dying to have answered. It involves a who done it element to the book with mild spice or thrills.

Thank you to NetGalley and Avon and Harper Voyager for this ARC.
