This manga gave me so much nostaglia. It reminded me so much of manga I used to read as a kid. I really love the simple plot, funny characters, and adorable art style. I wish child me was reading it, since it gave major soul eater vibes and I was so into that as a kid. Either way, give this manga a read since it is great for all ages.

Well folks, it seems Halloween came here early thanks to Netgalley and publisher for allowing me to review this manga lol! 👻👻👻👻

I really like the art, it is super colourful and the characters are pretty cute with different personalities. I think Vamp is definitely a relatable character out of them all, he just wanna do his own thing without confrontation lol. I feel for him totally on that one ☝️

Now I will admit though, it got boring at the end of volume 1 for me but it is a nice read at the same time!

A fun and interesting book, according to my daughter.
She read this in one sitting and was entranced the entire time. The characters are quirky and humorous, the plot was intriguing, and the overall mischievousness drew her in and kept her invested in the story.

This is such an awesome start to a manga! I loved the characters and the short yet perfect storylines that are shortly resolved but tie into larger stories! Bonzo is a dreamy skeleton stuck in limbo who wants nothing more then to solve crimes, murders, riots and save people. The problem is now that they are dead there really isnt many murders(if any) or riots. So he is working on finding himself and his found family along the way!
Definitely an awesome read you don't want to miss

[Thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha for a copy of this manga in exchange for an unbiased review.]

Because it’s apparently better to goof off in Limbo than serve in Hell, Bonzo has moved his skeletal self to that realm with dreams of being a detective. Except there aren’t any mysteries, unless you count how much messing about a skeleton, a shut-in vampire, and a zombie can get up to.

If I had to describe this in one word, it would probably be ‘aimless’. That’s sort of by design, but that doesn’t exactly make for a compelling narrative. And it’s not like a story that has no particular point can’t be good, but this one never quite rises above fitfully amusing.

It’s just weird. Once you get used to them, Bonzo and company aren’t terribly awful to spend time with and there’s an easy friendship that develops amongst the core trio. And it has its moments - there’s no universe I have yet visited where a vampire covered in cake in lieu of sunscreen isn’t somewhat amusing - but not enough.

And the running gag of Bonzo about to land the mystery to solve that he’s been dying for, so to speak, and having the rug completely pulled out from under him is fitfully amusing since it literally happens to him every single time. Then hi-jinx and shenanigans ensue.

Except they’re not very good. Even coming in at under 150 pages, there’s not enough of anything here to hold the interest and I spent a lot of time reading this being rather bored. There is a spectrum to slice-of-life and this is a very, very plain slice from a bakery that’s not serving anything special.

I suspect this is aged at a younger audience (and if it isn’t, well, I don’t even know what to tell you at that point), because minus one rather busty Frankenstein it’s pretty innocuous. I just wish I had a clue what the point was.

The whole thing is too simple, not funny enough, and that’s about it. I have the sneaky suspicion that it thinks it’s terribly clever, too, which is even sadder. I genuinely don’t know who would want to spend much time with this, even if there’s nothing monstrously offensive to it.

2.5 stars - and we’ll round it up because, well, it isn’t hurting anybody, at least, though that might have made it at least somewhat fun to review. The art’s okay, but there’s little to recommend it beyond that.

WOW this graphic novel is so freaking cute! I enjoy the story's settings and I also enjoy the characters in this graphic novel and I feel like if there was color added to this graphic novel, it would be awesome as well! ART STYLE IS SOOOO CUTEE

The art style was really cute! The setting and characters were interesting as well. This comic was written as separate short stories and each chapter didnt really seem to connect all that much, which was fine, just not what I was expecting.

I especially appreciated the character design! They're all unique and fun, both in personality and appearance.

Overall, it didn't really capture my attention as much as I was expecting it to. There was also some fatphobia during one chapter, which I didn't like.

Thank you so much to netgalley and the publisher for allowing me access to this eARC.

I absolutely loved this manga and will be reading more in the future, the characters were relatable and funny as well as the art style was simple but beautiful. I have not read from this author before in the past but I would read from them again. The main characters were very set and kept to their characteristics and I loved how they laid out the manga and how the story progressed as well as the background I absolutely love the author and will be reading more books in the series.

If you have a crush on the once-ler this book might be for you.
Using art that reminds me of Tumblr art, this book is a quirky
light novel that isn't serious. Filled with words that I feel are
a little outdated aka "Hella" and humor that benefits younger audiences.
I enjoyed reading it enough, I feel some stories were much stronger than others.
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to review this piece.

This was alright. I enjoyed some of the character designs but over all they blended together because there wasn’t enough variety. Which pretty much exactly how I felt about the story. Or lack thereof. It blended together because it was a series of vignettes of the characters doing their “job” complaining that they had other things to do. The story lacked a larger message or arc so while it was cute in spurts, it also slogged along.

Like most graphic novels and manga, if the art style appeals to you, give this a try. If not or if you’re very picky maybe skip this one.

Thank you to Kodansha via Netgalley for providing me with a copy of Hella Chill Monsters Vol. 1 in exchange for an honest review.

This is a quick and fun manga following Bonzo, who is a detective with no detective work due to Limbo City being one of the most peaceful places in the Dead World. We follow him and his friends as they do everything but do investigations.

There isn't much of a plot, but there are a good amount of moments that made me chuckle. I will say I don't really like the title they chose for this manga. Couldn't it have been 'Super Chill Monsters'? Also, HOLY BOOBS!
Also, there is a few panels in one of the chapters that includes a bit of fatphobia, which doesn't surprise me. Did want to note that.

This would be nice to pick up during the Spooky season! Would recommend.

This was very cute, though it didn't particularly wow me. I'd definitely pick up future volumes, though.

Omg this manga was so cute! was drawn to the art style and the colorful cover. This manga is about a ragtag detective agency in Limbo, the place between Heaven and Hell. Bonzo the skeleton is the lead detective with his roommate and friend Vamp the vampire. Unfortunately it’s very calm and peaceful in limbo so even though Bonzo craves adventure, he’s usually stuck doing chores and cooking. The manga is set up as an anthology of different adventures that Bonzo and his friends go on.

This series was so adorable I really hope there’s more volumes of it. I love all the female monster character designs the best. The Demon Princess was so pretty and so were the Frankenstein monster sisters. Can’t wait for volume two!

Limbo: A former city official from hell now works in limbo as a detective, but getting cases is hard. No murders are happening when everyone is already dead, and people would much rather employ him as a plumber.

Slice of life with supernatural characters, very cutesy artstyle. I am not sure if I would read on, but so far, this one has been fun and a quick read. While the genre usually is not my style, I don't seem to mind it if the characters are not human.

This is a creative idea that has been realised in a solid way.

First impressions, love the artwork.

Limbo is the place between heaven and hell and monsters live there, they aren’t good or bad and they are immortal in this world. Hella Chill Monsters, Volume 1 introduces Bonzo, a skeleton; Vamp, a vampire; and Nero, a stray zombie. The shorts graphic stories are about what their detective agency does. We then meet many friends and acquaintances along the way!

This is a great book for middle school ages and up!

This needs a coloring book to go with the series. I think coloring in some of these pages would be fun!!

I look forward to reading Volume 2!!

I absolutely enjoyed the book! The characters, art style, and worldbuilding all culminated into an entertaining experience. I loved Volume 1 so much, I pre-ordered Volume 2 (and I really hope Volume 3 gets an English translation, I want more of this series!)
