Sadly I cound´t read this version of the book because I coulnd´t open the link on any of my devices. Still I read some of it on the Webtoon App itself and really like it. I also watched the K-Drama which is based on this webtoon. The main Character is relatable and the love interests are very different which i like and both have their own story. For everyone who didn´t read any of this or watched the show, should give it a try.

I read this when it originally came out on a weekly basis and I am loving this in a volume format. I really appreciate the chapters are done in larger chunks and how much cleaner the type looks. I would consider adding these volumes to our high school library in our comics section. =

I ended up really loving this comic! I was a bit worried as I got into it that would be a bit too shallow or focused on outside beauty, but I just got so sucked in my all the characters. I love the artwork. I enjoyed the premise behind this intro and am really eager to see how it plays out. By the end I was fully invested and ready to pick up the next in the series. Definitely going to read more of this one!

Steam: None. Not even really sexual tension, just the very beginning possibility of an attraction in this volume.

The story follows Jugyeong as she tries to use makeup and alters her style to fit in at her new school after being bullied for her looks at her old school. The premise is similar to the manga Switch Girl, though this one is due to bullying and societal pressure to look a certain way and fit within specific beauty standards. Even though she learned how to use makeup in order to fit in, she discovers she has a genuine talent and appreciation for it. The romance is well done and it's refreshing that Suho does like her for her personality no matter which version she presents herself as. As for the art, Jugyeong's facial expressions are the best and really add key moments of humor to the story. Fans of the drama will enjoy reading the base material in print form.

TW/CW:bullying, strong language

I’ve read this before (maybe 2 or 3 years ago?) But I am re-reading it again. Many thanks to Wattpad books and NetGalley for the e-Arc. 🥹❤️

I’ve only recently realised that Junji Ito/Slam Dunk was mentioned in the series (the names are slightly changed due to copyright). Jugyeong and I have similar tastes in books, but her sister is more like me though. What a fun series. I love the inner monologues and comedy!!! The exaggerated faces are what get me!! Hahaha. I’ve never watched the drama adaptation until now, though.

I'm not gonna lie, I kinda miss high school life and its antics. I know some people say that the characters are shallow, but I feel like most of us are at that age. This series would probably be more relatable when I was a teenager.

This can be read on webtoon, but the physical copy for volume 1 will be released in November 2022.

Love, love, loved it! So of course I’ve already seen the K-Drama based on it and lived that, but this has its differences in some parts. I’d give it all the stars but sadly my copy had pages missing, so I got half the conversation and had to fill it in based on what I remembered from the show.

Our main character isn’t pretty, in fact she’s bullied because of it. So she decides to try makeup and is really good at it. When she transfers school with this new look, she’s instantly popular. Her and the main guy have a past but they don’t know it yet and keep bumping into each other. And add in the second guy.. who in ways I secretly was rooting for. I mean two hot guys wanting you, a girl can dream lol.
But really what this story undertones is that you should always be yourself and not let bully’s dictate your life and looks. Not everyone looks at people for their features but what’s truly inside themselves.

Great now I need to go rewatch True Beauty for the 5th time lol. But seriously I can’t wait to own the series.

True Beauty is a romantic-comedy / slice-of-life / coming-of-age comic that has been published weekly on Webtoon since 2018. I started reading it early on; I got sucked into Jugyeong’s world, and have been following her ever since. When I saw NetGalley was offering an eARC of the first volume, I jumped at the chance to read and review it early!

Jugyeong Lim is just an average ugly girl, mistreated by her family and bullied at school. She thinks that if only she could be pretty, all her problems will be solved. So she teaches herself how to use makeup by binge-watching Youtube tutorials. She slowly masters the art of makeovers, and her dramatic transformation leads to her overwhelming popularity and fame, but what will it all cost her?

Living in a society where people are judged based on their physical appearance, Jugyeong navigates both high school (and the series follows her to college) life, while her self-esteem, romantic life and career are constantly in flux.

It has been a joy to watch Juyeongs character arc. She has come a long way since the beginning of the series, and she is an MC I love to root for.

For Jugyeong, ugliness was a barrier, locking her out. But prettiness can be a cage, too—I love this series because it explores beauty standards and the cost of beauty, how beauty creates a hunger for praise and approval, the pros and cons of social media, and so much more!

The artist Yaongyi is one of my favorite comic artists right now. Her digital art style is not only beautiful but also very unique. She blends semi-realistic drawings with mild, photograph-like coloring, creating a stunning and recognizable style.

True Beauty Volume One will be available November 8, 2022. Remember, Pre-Orders Matter!

New episodes are uploaded to Webtoon every Wednesday.

True Beauty also was adapted into a K-Drama, which you can watch on Rakuten VIKI.

Thank you to NetGalley for offering me an early eARC of this title. All opinions are my own.

I remember hearing about the WebToon True Beauty a long time ago due to how popular it was. When I saw there was a print version coming out, I thought it would be a great time to give it a try!

It was interesting to say the least! The heroine was not who I expected her to be and curious to see how the title will play a role in the overarching series because I would like to think there will be a message of "more than just a pretty face"? I think the heroine herself with no makeup is really fun and felt sad when she couldn't explore and talk about her favorite hobbies when she was the "goddess."

That is part of why I was thankful for the main male lead! While he seems like a jerk (or maybe a cold person is more accurate ) at first, he was definitely not as "shallow" as I subconsciously was thinking. Not even sure why I was thinking he would be, but there was definitely more to him than what meets the eye and appreciated his character throughout.

I confess I skimmed or skipped the parts focusing on how to do makeup (because things with eyes creep me out even though there was definitely nothing gross), but it seemed like it could be helpful in properly putting on makeup, which I thought was cool!

Overall, if my library got the next volume, I would be curious enough to pick it up and see where the series is going. It seems like there is going to be a bunch of drama unfolding, which doesn't leave me feeling enthusiastic there, but I very much want to see more of the heroine and hero!

I loved the K-drama and devoured this volume in one sitting!

This is one webtoon I can binge forever if time allowed for it and real life didn't get in the way. The full-colour artwork is so beautiful and Jugyeong's exaggerated expressions really crack me up. I love her exploits as she tries to navigate life as a high schooler, as well as budding romance(s) and the rest of the cast.

Despite the overall light-heartened tone, this webtoon explores South Korea's obsession with beauty, the 'ideal' standard and makeup culture. Hence, I disagree with critics about True Beauty being shallow (news flash: welcome to the manga world LOL) — it's the opposite of that! Of course, it's hard to tell from just one volume and my feelings are definitely affected by partly already knowing where the story is going.

Call me a forever stan! I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

True Beauty Volume 1 is originally a hit webcomic from Korea. The story follows Jugyeong, a first-year high schooler that has recently discovered she can alter her looks with the use of makeup. Throughout middle school our main character was constantly bullied by her classmates for her looks, taking a huge toll on her confidence and self-esteem. During the break before starting at a new high school (with new classmates), Jugyeong learns how to apply makeup, going as far to make her eyelids larger and hide her acne. Immediately she notices how people treat her better, looking completely different than she does without makeup. Even the convenience store owner is convinced there are two of her!

Jugyeong's secret is soon discovered by Sunho, a boy at her school, when he finds her browsing his favorite comic book store without makeup on. Soon enough the two form a friendship over the pretense that Jugyeong will do anything for Sunho to keep her secret. Their relationship does not go unnoticed, however, and someone soon wiggles their way in, wanting to discover just what Jugyeong is hiding...

This webtoon touches on topics of self-esteem, friendship, and romance. I found the art to be the best part of this story. Jugyeong's facial expressions and reactions are absolutely meme-worthy. This story is hilarious, while also being relatable to any teen that reads this. In all I give it a solid 4 stars, as I am excited for this story to continue.

The premise of this series is interesting enough that I'm going to continue with it on Webtoons, but the first volume feels a bit hollow? There's no real sense of what the plot of this story is going to be - I'm assuming it will be getting Jugyeong comfortable with her bare face, but the first volume is pretty much just "Jugyeong feels ugly" "Jugyeong learns makeup" "Jugyeong is pretty!" Which is a valid sequence of feelings!

I enjoyed the art: Yaongyi has a very gorgeous style, and it's obvious she puts a lot of care into each panel. I also enjoy the cast of characters, and I'm looking forward to seeing them grow.

It is a bit jarring that Jugyeong looks no different between middle school and 21, so it can be a bit hard to remember that some of these silly problems are actually a much bigger deal to someone who is in their teens when she looks like she's a full grown adult.

Overall though, I enjoyed the heck out of this.

Thanks to netgalley and the editor for this ARC.

I was familiar with this story after seeing it several times on webtoon, but I hadn't really dwelled on it because it's all in the power of makeup and it hadn't really taken me away.

True Beauty is about an ugly Korean girl who understood that to make friends and be happy in life she must be beautiful, so she discovered the magic of makeup that transforms her into a true beauty. In front of her new friends, she had to hide her true personality and who she really is.

I must admit that I don't find it a good message, at least for this first volume which contains the first 13 episodes.

I am not very convinced that I want to continue reading, which is free on the webtoon platform.

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of True Beauty Volume One by Yaongyi. I’m really enjoying this manga so far! It’s sad reading about ‘high school politics’ and showing how far pretty privilege can get you. I’m excited to see where the romance in this goes and I hope our main girl learns to love herself both with and without makeup, and that she starts to wear it because she enjoys it, not because she feels she has to. I’m going straight to WEBTOON to continue!
Volume one contains episodes 1-13 of True Beauty.

I received an eARC of this title through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

I love how webtoons are getting physical copies published for either fans to own a copy or for those who are not fans of reading online. I love how webtoons are an accessible way for people to be able to read quality pieces and help launch artists careers or a way for them to make money.

I honestly love this webtoon and am excited to see it get a physical edition. I have not read it in a while, so it was nice to revisit this world. The protagonist is funny and it touches on the idea that "to be beautiful you need to wear make-up" when that is not the case. It also matters what's inside you. It really brings up a lot of good points and how make up can just give you the confidence to show what's on the inside to the outside world.

I also love the storyline how one person figures out who the protagonist is with and without makeup on. It's really a story about how people are more than first impression and appearances.

Really a good rounded graphic novel / manga. I highly recommend this title for anyone who want a slice of life book that has comedy and heart.

Alright frankly, I've read this comic from Webtoon itself and I am not going to lie that I love this comic, starting from the storyline, the main character who I think she's ridiculous yet cute, and certainly, I love the pictures since it is a comic.

Thank you to NetGalley for proving me with this file.

I've been reading True Beauty on Webtoon for years, it's one of my favorite Manhwa. It's been so long since I've read the beginning, it was great to see baby Jugyeong and Suho at the beginning of their relationship.

Yaongyi is the physical manifestation of life imitating art (or vice versa 🤔) she's so adorable in her Insta posts, then to know she's hilarious as well from the humor in the comics, she's like one of her characters.

Being used the to scrolling style of Webtoons, it was interesting to read it in a more traditional comic format.

It's such a relief to know how things turn out, the cliffhanger was a plot I completely forgot about! And Sujin as the villain, she has some of my favorite character development throughout this series.

I'm glad a wider range of readers may start enjoying this title as well.

Thank you NetGalley and Webtoons Unscrolled for the opportunity to read this graphic novel in exchange for my honest review.

I'll be transparent and say this is one of my favorite television shows of all time. So, when I saw that this was available for request, I hopped on the chance. The art style is just amazing. I love the back and forth between traditional manga style drawing and the more realistic drawings for emphasis. The juxtaposition of the drawing styles creates emphasis on some scenes, and it injects a effortless humor to the story. This particular novel is just building characters and the world. The plot is slower in this, but I can honestly say that I CANNOT WAIT for the next installments to come out. I will be collecting this series for me and for my classroom. As this is the first volume, it can only get better from here.

I wanted to write a synopsis for the the series but I just now realized that there's isn't much of it lol. The nerd girl who even her family calls ugly (but really she is just a stereotypical teenager with pimples and whatnot) learns the art of makeup and becomes the most popular girl in school, then she gets into a love triangle. There, that's it.
So,the series is called True Beauty, right? Makes you think it would focuse on the inner beauty of a person and how it is much more important. But the thing is, it just doesn't do that. Jugyeong should know all about this stuff but the thing is, she is quite a hypocrite. She knows exactly what it's like to be judged by your looks yet she does that to people all the time. There is a girl she meets and in her head Jugyeong calls her ugly, right. But then she does some makeup on the girl and gets praise for it. Her response? Oh, I didn't do anything, she was beautiful to begin with, I just touched up on somethings. "eyeroll"
And that's is my main problem here:with a title like that I just don't see the main character have any development in that direction. She is just as shallow in chapter 70 where I'm currently at as she was in the beginning. I don't even know why I'm continuing with the series, maybe because it takes my mind off of things.
P.s. the art is stunning.
Thank you to NetGalley for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The power of Makeup.
I wanted to start reading this popular Webtoon since 2018 and to watch the Kdrama that it has inspired but after I discovered the plot, I wasn't as excited as before for there are a great number of Japanese shojo mangas/kdramas that already did this with a love triangle and everything which I've read/watched a lot of them and I just wanted something new and different.

True Beauty is about a korean ugly girl who realized that to make friends, to be happy in life and to have a boyfriend is to be beautiful, so she dicovered the magic of makeup that could transform her into a true beauty who is admired by everyone for her appearance. Unfortunately, in front of her new friends she had to hide her true personality and who she really is in order to keep them. Wow! What a beautiful message to all the girls in the world.

What is true about this Webtoon is that it's funny with all the faces that the female MC makes in some situations and because it's a Webtoon, it's easy to read and could be addictive.
