Review to come October 28th on blog/goodreads.

I received this book from Netgalley/the publisher in exchange of an honest review.

I just LOVE it when webcomics get bundled into one book. That way I get to find some new comics to love. I just cannot keep track of it all (and Webtoon doesn't always make it easy). This one seemed so much fun and I was eager to read it.

This one definitely sounded fun, about a girl who feels ugly and wants to look pretty. I could definitely understand her feelings. And I understood why she was trying so hard to be pretty. Sadly, that is how society goes. If you are ugly or average good luck. But if you are pretty doors open to you, everyone wants to be friends, and more. We can clearly see the differences in this one. When she puts on make-up and goes to school, meets up with friends, and other things everyone loves her and everyone treats her wonderfully. But as soon as it is evening and she just wears the most casual clothes you can imagine and no make-up, people treat her so differently. They talk crap about her and are rude. So yeah, I could understand. I loved that she was able to make friends online who helped her out with ideas on make-up and styling. Not often peeps on the internet are helpful so I was delighted to see them give her tips.

But what happens when you meet a cute boy, who is pretty rude at times, but still very cute and has the same interests as you do. But what if he doesn't recognise your make-up you and the you you. We see Jugyeong try to figure things out on why he is so different towards her in her two forms and what she should do about it. I wasn't a fan of the boy when he was in school, but I loved seeing him open up in that store. How they recommended things, how he shared his likes.
And what if he finds out? I could imagine her reaction. Haha, hot dang, I would have done the same as her when I had a crush and he figured things out. XD

When he first met her at school after that? I wanted to kick him in the nuts. Rude dude. Rude. But thankfully it seemed that things went different after that and I found myself shipping these two.

But the story takes another turn when a girl pops up. And boy, I wasn't a fan of her. And as the story went on, she is such a snake. I just felt for Jugyeong and worried about her. Her friend clearly saw that something was up, but Jugyeong was so oblivious. :(

The ending. Oh no. OH no. I need to know more. Please give me the next volume. Please! Or maybe I should just go on Webtoons or wherever this one is found. I need to know. And I want to punch some people. ARGH.

I did like the art.. for most. But some of Jugyeong's reactions? They were just so weird and out of place and I just wasn't a fan. I mean, yay for reactions but um. NO.

All in all, I loved this book about beauty (inside and out), about friendship, about make-up, and much more. I really had fun reading it and I am glad that I found it on Netgalley. I would recommend this one.

I only have great things to say about this Korean manga book, gorgeous drawings, very well painted, and relatable characters… I mean everyone that suffered any kind of bulling knows how hard it is to keep going on, maybe for some it sounds shallow that the main character started to learn how to do her own makeup to look beautiful, but that is a coping mechanism that she uses to feel better and have a chance in the world (and this comes from someone that doesn’t know how to use makeup for the life of me, hahah pretty much useless in that department), I highly recommend this Korean manga book to everyone that loves dramas, webtoon, Korean manga.

Thank you NetGalley for the free ARC and this is my honest opinion.

3.5 rounded up. Heroine Jugyeong perhaps didn't need to remake herself as a beautiful person, but it definitely helps her to avoid the slings and arrows of middle school cruelty. Now in high school, she's perfected her beauty routine but is unhappy that she "has to" hide her love of metal and horror fiction...except that getting to know hot transfer student Suho, who figures out that School Her and Home Her are the same person, suggests that maybe she doesn't. Suho's clearly go his own issues with how handsome he is, and his less-than-charming personality seems to be his coping mechanism. There's a real story underneath the humor (and gorilla faces and memes) that seeks to show us that how you look doesn't need to determine who you are - but if you're happier making yourself up, that's okay too.

Clean read
I heard that there is a Korean drama based on the series so of course I had to read the book. The illustrations are beautiful. And the comedy is hilarious. I love the concept and can totally relate to the character and her questioning how people respond to her due to whether she has make up on or not.

If you like transformation stories like Princess diaries I think this one’s for you.

True Beauty Volume One is a comic book/graphic novel from Yaongyi, which can be your choice for those who want to have a physical book from this webtoon. I've read this webtoon before, but True Beauty in book format is really good, and I've always liked Yaongyi's illustration.

Volume one is like a character introduction, we will see Jugyeong Lim's high school life, and how she started learning to use makeup by watching Youtube tutorials, and her dramatic transformation leads to her overwhelming popularity and fame. Overall, I liked this volume and I enjoyed reading it.

Thank you to NetGalley, Wattpad Books, and WEBTOON Unscrolled for sharing this ARC with me in exchange for an honest review.

I would love to interview Yaongyi on my podcast or on my blog/bookstagram account. On my podcast I’ve interviewed Annika Sharma, Intisar Khanani, and other authors. True Beauty has a message about learning to love yourself. I’m a huge fan of Seojun and Suho! Jugyeong I
is a character that’s easy to root for.

True Beauty is a sweet, if simple, depiction of a young woman's struggles with her appearance. After being bullied for her looks as a tween, Jugyeoung dedicates herself to learning how to transform herself with makeup. Contact lenses, eyelid tape, and perfect technique allows her to create a whole new version of herself. Jugyeoung gets new friends and plenty of attention, but when the new guy, Suho, sees her true face, she's convinced he'll tell everyone. Although he has an icy exterior, Suho turns out to be a sweet and charming friend. This was a quick read and will appeal to fans of slow burn romance as Jugyeoung learns what True Beauty is.

I'm so glad this is getting a physical copy! Already read this before on webtoon and I really loved the storyline and the characters are funny and loveable. The illustrations in this book are also sooooo good. Glad to read it again!

Thank you NetGalley and Wattpad Books for the arc in exchange for an honest review.

So much fun!! I’ve seen this on webtoon for ages and just never tried it out but this was delightful. Comedy gold! I loved that the illustration style changes depending on how much of her personality is coming through. And the drama going on toward the end? Mmmmmm can’t wait to read more.

So far, so good. True Beauty Volume one is the first volume of the popular Korean webtoon that has a Korean drama adaptation as well. I have heard of it but had never read or watched the series, so I was looking forward to checking this out.

The story so far is fun to read, though the reasoning behind why she puts so much effort into how she looks is sad. Stumbling upon a guy who knows her secrets is a fun development, and I can't wait to read more of their interactions. The volume ended with a cliffhanger, and I'm excited to read what happens next. It's cute, and our heroine is likable enough, and understandably, there's very little depth or development so far.

Thank you, NetGalley and publisher, for the advance copy.

As someone who's caught up on the webtoons of this - damn it was crazy to go back so far!

Either way, I think this is a great comic generally. I think the message in this volume isn't super great, but it goes evolve into a more positive message than just "make yourself pretty to have friends" and such.

I understand the cliffhanger ending but I also hate it. But it is a good place to end it.

I always recommend this webtoons, and I look forward to collecting the physical copies of it!

I was stoked to find out that this popular webcomic was being compiled for publication. This is such a great manga/webcomic that follows a teenage girls journey into the world of makeup and influencing and the relationships she makes along the way.

True Beauty, Vol. 1 is first the volume based on the Webcomic of the same name. The webcomic also got turned into a K-Drama recently. The story follows Juyeong, a socially awkward nerd, who gets bullied for her appearance. One day Juyeong discovers the power of make-up and becomes obsessed with making herself look pretty. Until Juyeong scecret is discovered by Suho, a stand offish person. Both have one thing in common they are secretly nerds. I am excited to see where the rest of the story takes readers and I hope it begins to explore the concept of "true beauty." Overall, if you are looking for a fun read I highly suggest picking up True Beauty Vol 1.

3.5 Stars (I received an e-arc from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review)

I have seen clips and posts from the k-drama when it came out last year, I believe. So I was curious to check out the graphic novel/manga since I tend to prefer the over top crazy antics in book form than watching K-drama acting. I will say while I did enjoy the main plot of story between Juyeong and Suho, the side characters were just horrible to her when she wasn't wearing all her makeup. Also Juyeong refuses to express any aspects of her personality that differ from her "friends". Then this pretty girl who is clearly stalking Suho and trying to bring down Juyeong since she is friends with him. I do want to see where the story goes from the end of the first volume but it does have a lot of problematic issues.

I absolutely loved it! I'd read the Manhwa on Webtoon when it first came out and had watched the Korean drama as well when it aired so I knew I had to read this and go back into their world and relive True Beauty. One of my favorite stories and I'm so glad it's turned into a graphic novel as well! Can't wait for this to be out in stores so I can grab a copy for myself.

This story is about a geeky girl who becomes a master at make-up to try and hide what she looks like and because of this she becomes really popular at school but can't be her true self and let anyone see what she really looks like. I look forward to seeing how this continues on, I feel like it could be a really fun and interesting storyline.

This is volume one of the book adaptation of the popular Webtoon series, True Beauty. True beauty follows an awkward, slightly nerdy girl. She starts to follow the advice of beauty blogs and suddenly finds herself becoming very popular. While she feels better about her when she is made up, she struggles with hiding her true self.

I have followed this Webtoon for a while and was pleased to see that it is being made into a series of books/manga. I think it adapted well into book format. It’s hard to judge the story by just this first volume.

I really like the style of illustrations. The author/artist’s sense of humor is definitely present throughout. The storyline is a little angsty but these are teenagers and that’s just how they are sometimes. It does end in a cliffhanger and while I already know what happens, I am still looking forward to the next volume.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Thank you to NetGalley and Wattpad Books (WEBTOON Unscrolled)!

The art for this was adorable! I liked the colors and how cute and simple it was but still pleasing to the eye. The story is where it was lacking for me, and I wish it had been more! It's a cute idea and an enjoyable read for the most part but that's why it's a 3-star read for me.

Thank you so much to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this bind up of a webcomic before it’s release. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a story about a nerdy girl who feels ugly and is bullied for her appearance. After discovering the power of makeup, she becomes a popular girl. But now, she has to act fake around her new friends so they won’t know who she truly is. You as a reader get to see both side of the main character’s personality and see how insecure she is with herself. I think there is the potential for a good message in this with further volumes but this one didn’t provide much other than that only pretty girls can be popular and have nice things.

It is the way of the world that people inherently do profit from “pretty privilege” no matter how unfair it is so I appreciate this comic for fully embracing that. It just didn’t seem to have too much of a story outside of that in this volume. I would be willing to read the next one to see where the story ends up going.

Thank you for the advance copy!

I've read this webtoon and even watched the live action drama. The story is so fun and I really love the characters for this one. I think the artwork is beautiful and really fits the overall vibe/feeling of the story so well. The story of True Beauty original reminded me of an older Japanese title Kare Kano, but there are many similarities other than the girl dressing up and putting on a front to hide who she really is and what she really likes.

I think overall True Beauty is really funny and well drawn. The characters are clever and its easy to enjoy!
