A most interesting premise - a family wins an entire home and moves into an exclusive neighborhood. But not everything is what it cracks up to be in this slow-burn domestic thriller.

I love a good phycological thriller where everything seems perfect from the outside, but the truth is far from it. The characters are well developed and there are multiple POVs in this story. That can be a love/hate thing for me, but it was done very well in this book.

This is a quick read, you wont be able to put it down and will have it done in a day or two. There are twists and turns to keep you hooked and really interesting characters!

This was an enjoyable read. It was well written and kept me guessing at the outcome. The language is a bit different for those of us in the United States, which made it amusing. I will be recommending this book to my friends.

This one is a slllooooow burn- it was difficult to get into. I enjoyed the story itself but I almost DNF’d due to the slowness at the beginning.

Someone has won a lovely house in a competition and the neighbours can’t wait to meet the lucky winners. Things don’t quite add up and are definitely not what they seem at first glance. Loved the book’s description and couldn’t wait to read it but it was downhill from that point on. Because I wasn’t “thrilled” by it at all had to literally force myself to read a few pages of this extremely slow, plodding and shallow story. No one to root for or focus on, especially not the boring gossip or the interfering Jane (a very faint version of Miss JANE Marple). So sorry but I can’t find anything good to say, apart from being glad to be able to move onto another book.

The New Couple by Alison James is a twisty unputdownable book! With every chapter, the mystery and suspense builds up a notch higher. The entire book in divided into parts from the various characters POV which does makes for an interesting read but gets repetitive in places. Nonetheless its interesting to see the same situation processed by the different characters in such different ways. I was rooting for Jane for throughout the book. Even though she was meddlesome she was refreshingly different from other protagonists. Her mundane life actually made for interesting reading. I just hope we saw an epilogue with her fast forward to the good part of her life where she's the boss! She totally deserved it. The other characters in the book were also very good! The plot was amazing but had a few plot holes. I was hoping those would be explored or explained but sadly not. Despite everything I still loved this book and found a unique, twisty & gripping plot. I would recommend this book to a lover of the suspense/ mystery genre.

Thank you NetGalley, Bookouture & Alison James for this arc!

Overall, I enjoyed this one a lot. I am a big thriller girl and for some reason this cover was really drawing me in. I loved the neighborhood drama aspect and had a hard time putting this book down. I would definitely recommend this one to others!

There’s a new couple in the neighborhood. At first glance, they seem to be the typical happy little family. Unanswered questions start to accumulate and all is not as it seems. This thriller is entertaining with twists and turns sprinkled throughout. I loved how the story was told from different perspectives revealing some answers while delivering high-intensity and mind-blowing suspense. This is a fast-paced original clever thriller that was satisfying and addictive. Thank you, NetGalley and Bookouture for my copy.

Jane's cul-de-sac neighborhood is buzzing with excitement as it appears a new couple is preparing to move into the empty house. The Hamlins became owners of the large, gorgeous home through a lottery contest and do not seem as excited about their luck as they should be. It turns out the Hamlins are not really the Hamlins, and their baby is not really their baby. Jane continues to accidentally witness moments of mysterious behaviors from the Hamlins and begins to piece together evidence that indicates they are not who they say they are. The more Jane begins connecting, the fake Hamlins' behavior becomes more erratic.

Pretty decent suspense novel if you can get past the unlikely premise that the Hamlins have doppelgängers who are also involved in a relationship, living in a nearby area with questionable ethics. This was told from multiple perspectives, and I did like how the author used the perspective of the bad guy as well as the victims. The bad guy was not a secret from the start, and there was an attempt at some shocking twists, but they didn't really pan out - it was a fairly predictable story arc. I would recommend this book to someone was looking for an easy read that they don't have to pay too much attention to - it's a good travel read.

I did enjoy reading this but it didn't keep me as gripped as other thrillers. I was going through a lot of personal stuff so maybe that was why, but I kept forgetting what I was reading about.

The premise was good and mainly well executed but there were lots of characters, some needlessly, and I had cottoned on quite early on.

I would read another by this author, but not sure I would recommend this to seasoned thriller reviewers

This is a thriller, bad on the new couple who moves into a tight knit, nosey neighbourhood. right from the off we know things are not going to be as they seem!

It was engaging, and definitely kept me turning the pages, but there were so many things that made me eye roll as they were just a bit too far fetched. That was the only thing that lost it a star for me.

However, saying that, there were some brilliant twists, and definitely things that you couldn't have seen coming! And the storylines are all tied up together nicely by the end. It definitely picked up pace in the second half as well.

I love Alison James' work and will continue to pick up her new books as they come out. I enjoyed this one, it just wasn't my favourite.

I didn't love it as much as I thought I would by the promise of the plot.
A slow burner but continued to the end to find out what happened.

What I will take from this book, is sometimes its a godsend to have a nosey neighbour!

Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow what a absolutely thrilling read! The new couple move into the neighbourhood but who are they really and what secrets are they hiding? I flew through this, it's so exciting with the lies and deceit you don't know who to trust. A gripping physcological thriller.

When the Hamlin’s win a brand new beautiful home in Sycamore gardens they probably thought they were quite lucky. However, that’s not quite how things turn out.

This book is told through several perspectives as it goes on, starting with nosy neighbor Jane Hadley. She keeps trying to get close to the Hamlin’s and begins watching their baby, Poppy, on several occasions when Stephanie takes off to unknown locations.

Without giving spoilers, iIt turns out the Hamlin’s may not be quite who they said they were, as things unravel the tension gets worse and worse until someone cracks…

4 stars.

WOAH! This book was full of surprises.

When the new family moves in, the neighborhood is welcoming. But one neighbor is too nosey - the new family doesn't appear to be who everyone thinks they are. And they are right.

Who are they REALLY???

This felt like a book of two halves.
To start with, the story is a slow-burn, where it builds the suspense and intrigue and then all of a sudden- yikes!

Alison James does it again, another great book! This was only my second book by her, the first one I read (The Guilty Wife) was good with 4 stars but this one was great and definitely worthy of 5 stars!

Jane and Fergus Headley enjoy living in Sycamore Gardens, an affluent cul-de-sac in London. It’s a nice area with lovely built houses, friendly sociable neighbours and Jane thinks it’s a little piece of heaven for her in the midst of busy London. When one of the houses on the cul-de-sac is sold as a lottery prize the neighbours are eager to meet the new arrivals to their street but what they don’t bank on is the mysterious comings and goings of Richard Hamlin, his wife Stephanie and their 9-month-old baby Poppy. There suddenly seems to be a sense of immense unease on the street and Richard and Stephanie’s arrival, with all their secrets and lies, will ultimately end with threatening behaviour, two of the neighbours being terrorized and one being put through a terrifying ordeal that they won’t forget. Sycamore Gardens will never be the same again for anyone who lives there.

Well, this is another great gripping read from Alison James! The characters in this story are written so well, I kept wanting to scream at Jane to leave things well alone, I really didn’t like Fergus and as for Richard Hamlin…. What a thoroughly unpleasant character, so great writing to make me feel such emotion for each character. I thought the writing was very clever in that the story was told in 3 parts from 3 of the main characters and I really enjoyed the way everything meshed together by the end. I found it really difficult to put down and just wanted to keep reading and forget about everything else around me that needed doing.

Overall, a very enthralling good read and extremely deserving of 5 stars. Psychological thriller fans will love this. I look forward to Alison James’s next book!

Thank you to NetGalley, Alison James and Bookouture for my advanced reading copy. Out now.
