This was a cute, easy to read romance with elements of festivity which kinda delivered what it says on the tin. The only thing I struggled with was the pace of the romance, it felt like a very slow, slow-burn and the plot could have been developed a bit more. I also kinda wanted a bit more festivity to it. That's not to say it's a bad book! Just that it wasn't entirely for me.

Sue Roberts charms her readers this winter with her enchanting and enjoyable new novel, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage.

Sarah Dunne is looking forward to a traditional Christmas full of heart-melting carols, delicious mince pies and holiday celebrations. Since the end of her marriage, Sarah hasn’t had much to look forward to and is hoping that this Christmas will herald the start of an exciting new chapter for her. Unfortunately, her daughter Ellie isn’t exactly full of the joys of the season and seems to be giving The Grinch a run for his money this Christmas. However, Sarah refuses to be deterred and in her quest for the picture-perfect holiday season ends up following a trail of fairy lights and comes face to face with a figure from her past she has never quite managed to put behind her: her childhood sweetheart Luke!

Nineteen years ago, Luke had moved half a world away and Sarah had been left with no other choice but to move on with her life. However, the second they clap eyes on one another, that old spark immediately reignites. With Luke not sticking around the village, Sarah knows that she shouldn’t fall in love with him, but that proves far easier said than done. When old secrets are revealed, Sarah finds herself forced to make the hardest decision of all. Will a Christmas miracle provide Sarah with the happiness that she has been searching for for so long? Or is she going to end up heartbroken and disappointed all over again?

Sue Roberts gets it right yet again with her fabulous Yuletide romantic comedy, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage. A heartwarming and uplifting tale about second chances, past secrets and finding your soulmate, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage is sprinkled with hope, humour, emotion and laughter and will have readers chuckling away as well as shedding a tear or two.

Perfect for curling up with this winter, romantics everywhere will not want to miss Sue Roberts’ latest novel, Christmas at Red Robin Cottage.

This was a sweet Christmas novel that tugged at my heartstrings. I can definitely say a tear or two were shed during reading. This was a slow-burn story, filled with love, loss, friendship, second chances, and self discovery. Despite not completely connecting with the characters, I felt they were well written, and though the book felt slightly drawn out, I did enjoy learning more and more about our MC which made it feel more real in the end. Would recommend.

3.5 stars.

An easy, non-taxing read suitable for fans of romance and happily ever afters. I found the book very heavy on unnecessary detail, which made it quite a slow read. The author painted a lovely picture of life at Red Robin cottage but the storyline itself was quite slow and predictable. Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC.

This was an easy and quick read - very festive and cosy.

The writing style wasn't entirely to my taste, it seemed a little basic - a lot of description and a lot of telling the reader information. It took me a while to get in to it.

I have read other books by Sue Roberts and unfortunately didn't enjoy this one quite as much but it's still worth a read for a few hours of escapism.

This book took me a while to get into. It was okay. I hesitate to give a poor review as I know it takes time and energy to write a book. It might be fantastic to someone else but I couldn't relate to it.

A lovely Christmas read. This is the kind of book that makes you want to curl up in a chair with a blanket and a hot chocolate. This one had plenty of christmassy vibes which is exactly what I look for in a holiday book. I enjoyed the romance aspect too.

Thank you for approving me to read this book. I did enjoy the story - it felt very festive and cosy and I did love the characters. However the writing style was a little odd - the speech didn't flow how people naturally talk and it was very jarring to me. I would still recommend this book though for the lovely story.

Blurb

Snow is falling on Little Newdale; decorations are being hung and joy is in the air. But at Red Robin Cottage, Sarah is feeling far from merry and bright…

Since her marriage went up in flames like a Christmas pudding, there’s nothing Sarah Dunne wants more than a peaceful festive season filled with carols and mince pies. But Sarah’s teenage daughter Ellie is feeling the winter blues, faced with spending the holiday without her father.

Desperate to bring home some seasonal cheer and make this a Christmas to remember for Ellie, Sarah follows the trail of fairy lights into the snow-covered village. Among the holiday crowds she finds herself gazing into the soft brown eyes of a handsome stranger whose smile is startlingly familiar. It couldn’t really be her childhood sweetheart, Luke, could it?

My Opinion

A lovely festive hug in a book. An uplifting book about friendships, family and second chances. There is quite a lot going on in this book to hold the readers attention. A lovely holiday escape to read curled up with a nice festive drink.
