This is quite emotional historical romance with interesting characters, although Mr Mattingly did seem a bit too good to be true. The story was really lifted by Sophia's daughter who introduced fun and interest into what could have been a bit depressing. at times. There were times I found it dragged a bit in the middle when I wanted to give the heroine a good slap but overall a good read and can be read as a stand alone. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy for my honest opinion and my own thoughts.

Mr Oliver Mattingly is the American ambassador to England. A broken axle strands him miles short of the estate he was traveling to. The family at the nearest home to his accident will change his life dramatically.
Lady Sophia Winterbourne has been twice widowed and has a young daughter. Months ago she was told she is dying. The idea of spending her last months alone and leaving her daughter without a parent is terrible.
Our heroine is so worried about her illness that it controls everything she does. Our hero is far from the normal type of hero, but has a charm all his own.
This is an emotional historical romance with lovely characters. There were times I wanted to tell the heroine to stop moping and live, but that's the whole point of the story.
A very interesting read.

He Was Her Hero & Mine:
We first meet Sophia who has not had a happy last few years and has just received very bad news from her London doctor.
We meet Oliver who is on his way to a leisurely vacation when his coach breaks down on a lonely country road.
He meets up with a lovely young girl who escorts him to her family's home.
This meeting of her family will change this charming cast of characters lives forever from this point on.
This is a lighthearted quirky story that is filled with lots of emotion, humor, caring family, passion like you dream about, heartaches, sweet confessions, picnics, and much more.
An easy story to read but I felt it dragged out a bit too long in the middle and the end left some issues unsettled.
