New Mocktails Bible has some great ideas for non-alcoholic drinks that will rival many alcoholic cocktails found in high-end bars. Admittedly, I was concerned when I read the first chapter, as it used many non-alcoholic spirits that are not widely available. I live in a city and think I could track down many of the items used but for those not in a metropolitan area, some ingredients may be difficult to source. Luckily the book redeemed itself for me in the subsequent chapters where it relied more on fruit juices to achieve the desired flavour profiles.

For those who do not drink alcohol or those looking to add more non-alcoholic recipes to their drinks repertoire, the New Mocktails Bible is a great addition to your drink resource collection.

Thank you to NetGalley and Fox Chapel Publishing for the advance electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.

I recently noticed the book, "New Mocktails Bible" by Editors of Fox Chapel Publishing and decided to read and review it for you.  Hopefully, this book will find its way into many mixologists' libraries of drinks.   I drink wine, beer, and alcohol-based cocktails, but sometimes I am with other people that don't for various reasons.  When I check through the list of drinks for these friends, they are usually sweet soda pop, water, sweet iced tea (in Canada), or sweet mocktails.  Most of these drinks are not good for diabetics, and I've seen many of them opting for a glass of water as I have a glass of wine.

The book gives a few recipes for "shrubs" which can be made to flavour your mocktail.  Most have a proportion of 1 cup fruit, 1 cup sugar, and 1 cup vinegar and either sit together in a container for 24-48 hrs in the fridge, or you can make a version that heats the mixture and simmers before straining and cooling it.

The New Mocktails Bible offers 250 different alcohol-free drinks that are far from boring.  There are alcohol-free whisky sours, bellinis, martinis, daiquiris, and much more to choose from.  In general, all cocktails are made from some non-alcohol-based spirit combined with a sweet and a tart or bitter ingredient, put on ice. Embellishments can be muddled fruits, citrus rinds, mint or other herbs, and much more.  Some of the mocktails in their list omit the non-alcohol-based spirits, so if you only have fruits and juices at home, there is still something you can make.  I noted at least 40 mocktails that do not add sugar, just use the sweetness in purchased fruit juice or freshly squeezed fruit.

If you are a coffee or tea drinker after a meal, the book contains 44 recipes ranging from Thai iced coffee to Mexican mocha to hot orange spiced tea.  The book also has 44 recipes for dessert drinks: Smoothies, milkshakes, coolers, lassies, and much more.

There are pictures of each mocktail so you know what it will look like and what kind of glass you should use. There is likely a drink in their list of 250 mocktails that everyone can enjoy.

No longer do those of us who choose not to drink alcohol have to have have boring drinks! This is a proper grown up approach to making delicious cocktails that just happen not to have alcohol in them. There's mention of all the equipment you'll need. In some cases, the recipes use the many varieties of non-alcoholic versions of classics such as whisky, gin and tequila in others fruits and teas are used. Definitely a book to refer to and use often.

New Mocktails Bible
All Occasion Guide to an Alcohol-Free, Zero-Proof, No-Regrets, Sober-Curious Lifestyle
by Editors of Fox Chapel Publishing

I rarely drink alcohol because I take medication that does play nice with alcohol. But I do like the fancy drinks at times. Maybe it's just the juice? Anyway, I saw this book and wanted to read it. I want to thank the publisher and NetGalley for letting me do just that.

The found the whole book so helpful! The beginning had equipment and ingredients that are normally needed for a well stocked "bar", lol! Then they described how to make shrubs! The only shrubs I know are in my front yard so this was new to me. Not only do they explain how to make shrubs but what they are used for. Then the book goes on to the various syrups, how to make them and their uses.

Don't forget the necessary glossary! Boy did I learn a lot there! I will never order anything with a 'Flip'.(Just my personal taste.) I learned what a 'Pony' of something is, also what an 'Aperitif' and 'Digestif' are.

Here is some titles of the mock drinks.
Ward 8 Cocktail
Aretha Franklin
Maze Runner
Say Ahhh by
Grecian Lady
Surfers Paradise
Pac Man
Southern Belle
In the Mood
Guave Buzz
Berry Nice
Caffe Calabrese

There is just SO MANY recipes! Each with excellent color photos and terrific instructions on making them. The drinks are in chapters of either Dessert Drinks, After Dinner Drinks, Unusual Mixers and Drink Bases, Traditional Mocktails and Mixed Drinks, and New Signature Mocktails. The amount of recipes alone is fabulous but I learned so much too!
Highly recommend for anyone just wanting recipes for desserts, for friends and family that don't drink, for trying something new, or etc. Whatever your reason, this book will have plenty of recipes for everyone.

I wasn't too sure what to expect from this mocktail bible. I can't drink alcohol because of stomach issues, so I was excited to check out these recipes. Because I don't drink I don't have a lot of things to make cocktails in my pantry. So, this book just didn't work for me. I was thinking it was going to be easier recipes with simple ingredients. This uses a lot of different syrups, bitters, etc... Great for someone who has this kind of stuff and wants to cut back on the alcohol. It just wasn't for me.

New Mocktails Bible challenges your expectations regarding non-alcoholic beverages. Until I picked up this book, I had no idea how many non-alcoholic options there are out there for those of us that like our fruity adult beverages.

The variety and creativity of the options means the next time I have a girls night I will have lots of options for my friends to try whether they lean more towards the traditional or mixed drinks, the recipes are all there.
Dessert Drinks treats like Darling with ice cream is just one that tempts just on the name alone.

The inclusion of snippets/snapshots from distilleries that offer non-alcoholic spirits as an option added an educational twist as well.

Ever wondered what to serve to guests who don’t drink? Ever not been able to drink, but felt way cooler holding something that looks like a cosmopolitan straight off the set of Sex and the City even if it’s not? There’s no shame. Introducing the New Mocktail Bible: with hundreds of recipes that have the look, style, and flavor of your favorite alcoholic beverages, minus the alcohol. Special shoutouts and honorary mentions go to the following: the Rasberry Smash, the Margarita, the VeryVery Berry Bellini, the Naughty Peppermint Spritzer, the Rose Bush, and the Pineapple Express and Tonic. Whether we drink or not, we all deserve a full glass to cheers to!

The first chapter was a bit disappointing for me because the mocktails that were presented here were mixes of different liquids with alcoholic beverages without alcohol. From my experience these are not very easy to come by, thus making the recipe quite challenging.

As the pages keep turning, there comes the second chapter that brings me hope that I'll find something I can make at home and it's not an hour of cooking. So there are presented all sort of mocktails, recipes from more complex to very simple. I'll admit that some of these are quite awful-sounding and I'm not sure I'd be willing to even have a taste if they were offered to me. I remain skeptical. However, some I'll definitely try!

This mocktail recipe book is PACKED with recipes! If you can’t find something you’d like to drink within these pages then honey, it doesn’t exist! The pictures were enticing and the directions were clear. I did get a little confused during the first recipe section “New Signature Mocktails” which showcases recipes created by the owners of spirit free beverage companies using their products. The information was muddled and I had a hard time deciphering what was something I needed to purchase versus what was an ingredient I was going to make. Also, there wasn’t any information about where to purchase these items. I live in a big city and have access to large liquor stores but even I hadn’t heard of most of these spirit free brands and haven’t seen them anywhere at my stores. It is a little frustrating to open a mocktail book and the first recipes you encounter are ones most people can’t make unless they track down ingredients and order from boutique beverage companies. Perhaps if the recipes had been more general (i.e. “use a spirit free gin - we recommend particular brand XYZ”) or if the recipes would have been placed in the back half of the book it wouldn’t have felt so alienating. Regardless, the recipes look delicious if you can get your hands on the ingredients and the rest of the book ROCKS! So many recipes from classic cocktails gone spirit free to fruity concoctions to coffee/dessert based and everything in between! A great resource for anyone who wants to try upping their mocktail game!

Great photos. Great recipes for not only simple syrups, but also not so simple syrups. Great bios on each person who came up with each mocktail, as well as a decent breakdown of the best ways to serve each mocktail so they look artsy and pretty. At the end of the day, though, I'm still not 100% sure why someone needs a big book of mocktails. I mean it's great if you're throwing a themed party for those under the age of 21 and want to include fancy drinks, but otherwise... Perhaps I'm just not the target audience.

This book is a solid option for anyone looking to either cut out or cut back on alcohol. As someone who is striving to be a more mindful drinker, but who really enjoys the ritual of having a cocktail, this is a good resource. I enjoyed that the first section of the book was dedicated to non-alcoholic liquor and wine with professional recommendations. I also enjoyed the second section which focused on more classic mocktails. I liked that not every drink seemed loaded with sugary fruit juices, which is a problem I've had with other mocktail books previously.

That being said, I did not find the last few sections of drinks to be very appealing. One section felt more like smoothies and the other was focused almost entirely on coffee & shakes. It just wasn't what I was expecting from a book of mocktails.

I also wish the photography had been more consistent. Some drinks had stunning pictures, others looked liked they'd been taken on an out-dated camera phone. I'm not sure if these photos were submitted by various sources, but it was a little weird to have the inconsistency. It also seemed like some photos were used more than once for separate (but similar) drinks.

Thanks so much to the publisher and to NetGalley for giving me access to this book. Many of our patrons are interested in cookbooks/recipes. I picked this out as a request because I felt it might be interesting. I guess it was more basic than I hoped for. I am sure it will be popular with our patrons. But I will keep looking for a selection that is a little more advanced.

I love the concept of this book. In recent years, there has been a huge increase of folks living mostly sober lives in my community. But I still want to have fun mixing and enjoying unique beverages, so mocktails are a natural solution.

I liked that there is a mix of recipes that use alcohol-free liqueurs and ones that don't use any kind of alcohol substitute at all. I like that there is a little something for everyone including blended, fruity juice, coffee, tea, and tonic-based drinks. There's also a helpful guide about terminology at the beginning of the book, which is perfect for newbie mixologists.

For me, the design style of this feels a little outdated (90s/early 2000s). Also, most of the dessert drinks were coffee or tea based, so I would have liked to see a little more variety in that section.

Overall, this is a great guide for alcohol-free fun!

New mocktails bible is the best "bible" for mocktails. It has recipes with all sorts of cocktails but with no alcohol. I will make everything and let you know which is my favorite!

There a lot of great mock tail recipes within this book with easy instructions and great photos but I found that some of the ingredients were very hard to find in my local area.

I loved this book, it had great recipes and photos. It makes non-drinking seem exciting and somewhat glamourous :). For me this was a different spin on a typical mocktail recipe book because it featured non-alcoholic spirits and then gave a background on the company that makes it. My favorite mocktails from the book are called "Safe Sex On The Beach", and The Noughty Singer which is made with alcohol free organic sparling wine. I hope to be able to buy some of this and make the drink that was created at a tavern in London. I highly recommend this book to anyone looking for new mocktail recipes and different non-alcoholic spirits!

This book relies heavily on non-alcoholic spirits and a variety of items that may be hard to find in some areas. I did find d several fruity drinks I could manage. This would be a borrow rather than buy book.

This is a highly comprehensive collection of mocktail recipes. The recipes also share information about many alcohol free spirit manufacturers and their interest in proving alcohol free options. Unfortunately, I am way too lazy to make the majority of these rather complex recipes. For those who are willing to put in the effort (and expense), this book has many inspiring concoctions to offer.

Two years today since I last had an alcoholic drink and I celebrated with ‘Safe Sex On The Beach’, a wonderful mocktail with amongst other things, peach, orange and pineapple, and of course without the vodka. It was yummy. I love the fact that I can make mocktails like these for myself and I don’t feel as if I’m not losing out when I’m with my drinking buddies. The book comprises a great introduction, an equipment chapter, a chapter explaining the ingredients, a glossary, and then of course various chapters featuring the cocktails - signature cocktails, traditional cocktails, unusual mixers, after dinner drinks, and dessert drinks. So many mocktails to create and sample. If you don’t drink alcohol, if you want to try an alcohol free lifestyle, or, if you want to cut down on your alcohol intake I highly recommend giving this book a try. The kids can also get in on the fun. Ranging from basic easy to make mocktails, up to more complicated mocktails with harder to come by ingredients. Something for everyone. I received an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. This is my honest review.
