A 3.5-star review (rounded to 4 for Amazon/Goodreads) capturing the essence of an adventurous yet slightly flawed fantasy journey. The narrative weaves a rich tapestry of magical intrigue, though at times, it seems to stumble over its own complexity. The characters are vividly drawn, with the protagonists' development offering a mix of empowerment and vulnerability that's engaging. However, the pacing can feel uneven, with some sections racing forward and others meandering. The world-building is expansive and detailed, inviting readers into a well-constructed universe of spells and mysticism. Yet, it's the occasional lapses in narrative cohesion and a few predictable plot twists that might leave readers wanting. Overall, 'Hex You' by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast is commendable, offering enough magic and adventure to satisfy.

I wanted to love this book I really did. Book 1 had my attention immediately , book 2 had kind of that middle book slump, but I was hoping the action would pick up more by the end of this trilogy. Half of the characters are just so unlikable that it's really hard to care what's going on with them and the other half just feel so rushed and out of place. This one just wasn't for me unfortunately.

n Hex You, the third and final installment in the Sisters of Salem trilogy, twin witches Mercy and Hunter Goode are back in action, facing new threats and challenges. This time, they find themselves trapped in the Ancient Egyptian Underworld, where they must find a way to escape before their powers are stripped away.

Meanwhile, back in the mortal world, Amphitrite, the evil goddess of the sea, is still plotting against the Goode sisters. She has unleashed a powerful curse that threatens to destroy Goodeville, the town where all witches live in peace.

Mercy and Hunter must race against time to save their home and their loved ones. Along the way, they will encounter new allies and enemies, and they will discover more about their own magical abilities.

Here are some of the things I loved about the book:

The fast-paced plot keeps you on the edge of your seat. There's never a dull moment in this action-packed adventure.

The characters are likable and relatable. Mercy and Hunter are both strong and independent young women, and they are easy to root for.

The world-building is rich and immersive. The authors do a great job of bringing the Ancient Egyptian Underworld to life.

Overall, I highly recommend Hex You to fans of urban fantasy and young adult fiction. It's a fun and entertaining read that will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

I recently read the new book by these authors, Draw Down the Moon, and really enjoyed it. But unfortunately, I couldn’t get into this one as easily.

Characterwise, I just couldn’t find myself really connecting. I think sometimes when you bring sex into YA books, my brain just goes ewwwww nowadays which was definitely a turn off on this one for me.

Overall though, it is a pretty fast paced, easy read that you can hop into.

Hex You is book #3 of Salem Sisters
I did read the first two books before starting this one, I didn't want to risk missing anything.
Unfortunately, I just lost interest during Hex You. It's okay.... but just didn't keep me interested and I found myself constantly putting it down to "try again later".

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and St. Martin's Press for providing me with an ARC copy.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This one was a DNF for me. I am not into fantasy books and I didn’t realize this was very deeply fantasy rooted. I am sure it is a great read for fantasy readers it just wasn’t for me.

This is the third book in the Salem Sisters series. I have not read the first two books and I would recommend doing so before reading this one. I think I would have been more invested in the characters if I had. Mercy and Hunter are twins who are also witches. Something happened in a previous book that has caused tension between them, but they are trying to work through things while also trying to save their town from the goddess Amphitrite. The story was fast paced and interesting enough to keep my attention. I liked the references to Buffy in the book. I didn't feel the emotional pulls that I think I would have if I had started with book one.

I always love how this duo can mash mythology with other mystical beings. I’d never heard of this Egyptian goddess before and was intrigued to learn more.

This series is definitely geared towards teens and it was a little hard to wrap my head around both sister being mean but an easy fun read with all the witchy goodness you need.

Review:

I really wasn't sure what I was going to find going into this book. It's the final book in the trilogy. I can say that both of the twins redeemed themselves, so there's that. Also, this might have some spoilers. They will be small spoilers though. To be fair, I feel like anybody reading reviews for this has either read the first two already or they are looking for spoilers. Both of the twins were infuriating and stubborn about completely different things. And they couldn't seem to communicate at all. I think that was meant to be part of the plot. Like they were under a spell or something. I'm not really sure. The ending was really beautiful. I still consider the two authors of this trilogy on my favorite authors list. I will still get excited and buy all of their releases. While I didn't enjoy this trilogy as much as I did the House of Night series, I did really enjoy it. The only reason I didn't fully love it was the second book. Thankfully, this book saved it in my opinion.

Hex You is the third book in the Witches of Goode Family series by P.C. Cast and Kristin Cast.I enjoyed the first two books and this was just okay for me. Definitely give this series a go if you're into witches, fun and fairy tales!

Synopsis:
Twin sisters, Mercy and Hunter are witches, direct descendants of the Goode family, the founders of their town. After the murder of their mother at the hands of a foul demon, they have become the protectors of the Gates to different underworlds--ancient portals between their world and realms where mythology rules and the darkest of creatures exist.

Mercy and Khenti are trapped in the Ancient Egyptian Underworld and need Hunter’s help to escape. But while Hunter searches for a way to save them, other evil threatens Goodeville. Amphitrite is still looming–and she wants vengeance against Hunter. With the gates rapidly weakening, Amphitrite lures out a deadly creature and sets it free on the residents of Goodeville. It will take everything in Mercy and Hunter’s power to stop the goddess and seal the gates once and for all.

This is a bitter sweet ending to the sister of Salem series. In Hex you, we follow Mercy and hunter as they try to save their town from the evil that has infected it. I enjoyed reading this story, but something is holding me back from giving it a five star and it might be how fast and conventionally the ending happens.

I tried to get into this trilogy and it just didn’t wasn’t for me. This genre is a hit or mess and I couldn’t get into it. But I know of students who will enjoy this so I’m glad I started it so I can recommend it.

P.C. and Kristin Cast are part of my adolescence. If they provide me with the shopping list, I would gladly read it. Anything that is written by them is pure magic. I absolutely adore all of their books. It is so freaking cool that mother and daughter can work together and create something so beautiful. I envy them and love them so much. This book is not an exception. I am aware of the targeted audience and I can sit back and read it with different eyes and appreciate what they are doing. This is a great series for teens.

We left the last book with Mercy stuck in the underworld and Hunter facing off against a vindictive and spiteful goddess, and this one has the action-packed beginning that anyone would expect to get after such a cliffhanger. It also has some great bonding moments and hard-hitting tension with the locals being influenced to hate the Goode witches.
I love it when it feels like authors listened to my complaints about a series and fix those things in the following books. Hex You feels like the Casts did exactly that. Gone is the overly dramatic teenage angst and back is the focus on sisterhood and battling the evil that is invading their town.
Both sisters start out in very difficult situations but leaning on each other once again helps them find the answers they're looking for, even if they're not exactly the happiest at the end. But it's that unexpectedly hard-hitting ending that convinced me this story was worth the read. Life isn't always easy, but there's always a bit of hope and support from loved ones to keep things going.
I will warn that this is one of those series where you definitely have to be familiar with previous volumes to really get everything that's going on. I don't think it'd be unreadable without having read the previous two books, but I don't think it would be as enjoyable or good.

Happy thanks to NetGalley and Wednesday Books for the read!
