There is certainly a lot of valuable content here, but I'm not sure it's presented in a way that will engage teenage boys well. There is a LOT of uninterrupted text and not too much variation in visual style (infographics, lists, etc.). I think this would probably be most effectively deployed in very small chunks and with the support of a reading partner/mentor/teacher/counselor. In that scenario, boys will have the best chance to process the information thoughtfully and get more out of the exercises presented.

I appreciated that the authors left space for readers to draw their own conclusions. There are many places where guys are asked to reflect on ideas and decide what fits them best. There is almost always an "other" option in quizzes and scenarios, which is helpful in creating a sense of ownership of ideas. With support and guidance, this could be a very helpful resource for adolescent males in helping them draw their own conclusions about who they are and how they express themselves.

Many thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review!

I liked the book and I think that it could be helpful for teen boys IF they would actually read it and go through the exercises....but would that happen? I'm not so sure.

I think this would be a helpful book for young men - I just don’t know that it would necessarily get in the hands of the people that need it (the bullies, etc). It also kind of took a hard left turn towards the end - and I think it was soooo progressive that it might turn some readers and parents off from it.
The first half was great, although again, not sure how to get this great resource in the hands of the right people
