This was beautiful! The drawings are very different and original. It gives a bubbly feeling when you are at the beginning of an adventure that just feels like it'll be long and epic. There are so many mysteries while still being action based and engaging. I can't wait to read the next volumes !

This was an interesting manga. I had no idea what it was about going into to it so I was a little bit confused at first but it's easy to catch on pretty quickly. I really liked all of the interesting characters and I'm curious to see where the story goes in the next volume. I know that I could go read it on WebToons but I like the books better.

Thank you NetGalley and Webtoon Unscrolled for a free advanced copy in exchange for an honest review.

I've been a fan of Tower of God since it originally released on the Webtoon app, and I've followed it on-and-off throughout the years since. Reading it again amongst the pool of other titles in its genre, Tower of God doesn't necessarily stand out. Its pacing is a little stop-and-go, but once it finds its footing, it's an enjoyable read. The large cast of characters may be overwhelming for some readers, but the characters tend to be developed enough, and drawn with distinct enough features, that it's not too hard to keep track of them.

Since this is the first volume, Tower of God Volume One contains art and story first published over a decade ago. SIU's art has definitely improved over the years, and I find it charming to look back at the beginning of the story and see how it's changed over time.

Bam is on a mission to follow his friend Rachel after disappearing into the tower. Once entering the tower himself he is met with the first floor guardian who explains the rules of the tower. Bam is watched by a princess and her squire and they let him borrow a weapon. Bam proceeds up the tower to try and find rachel and is put through a few tests that help him advance up the tower.

The art in this graphic novel is a little strange and inconsistent but it did start as a webtoon so I'm not too upset. The story didn't make a whole lot of sense. There was a lot of mysterious insinuations that weren't resolved in this volume.

Really digging this series so far, it's mysterious and otherworldly, creepy and just a bit nightmarish, and it moves along at a slow, steady pace, like walking through a dream. Our main character, Twenty-Fifth Bam, must climb to the top of the Tower, a mysterious place one hundred floors high, the floors as large as continents, and each one different from the last. On each floor, Bam will be tested to see if he's worthy to move on to the next floor; he cannot fail if he wants to see his friend Rachel again. In this first volume, we're getting a feel for the place, and so not a lot of action happens yet, but it's definitely intriguing, and I'm glad I already have volume 2 so I don't have to wait to see what happens! Read this when you're in the mood for something with a slower pace that will tease out hints and clues like breadcrumbs, and some gorgeous art.

Since I already know the story, I must say, this is a good one to read. I am glad they are finally coming out with a graphic novel for this story as it's wonderfully written.

The first volume was pretty thrilling. I like the story idea however the art looks a little rough and the color looks flat. It might be the artist's artstyle or the art might get better in the next volumes

I have seen the first season of the animated version of this show and I was so excited to finally get to see the published version of the series. The art is beautiful and I really enjoying the way the story is laid out on the page- the story itself grabs you immediately and I’m excited to read more as more volumes come out in the future!

"I'm sick of living in this dark world." - Rachel

Bam's best friend and mentor has vanished into the mysterious Tower. Rachel told Bam to forget about her, but he refuses! He finds himself within the Tower at the first floor not remembering how he got inside. He's instantly seen as an Irregular and Bam soon finds out why the Tower's so difficult and why Rachel warned him not to follow.

But will the threat of his own death stop him from finding Rachel? To climb the Tower and get his answers he must climb the Tower. The different floors have different administrators who require the participants to pass each of their tests or be eliminated from climbing. Will Bam be able to live to see the top floor of the Tower? Will he really find Rachel? And what's this Shinsu everyone is talking about?

"Irregulars have always brought chaos to the Tower." - Lady Yuri

So, I was a big fan of the anime series when it came out and the music that accompanied the series! I still need to complete season one of the series when I can. I was very excited when I found this book through NetGalley and that the webtoon's being printed! The artwork in the anime is just incredible and I loved the storyline and twists! The webtoon did not disappoint!

Bam just lost his entire world when Rachel decided she was leaving him behind. I have mixed feelings about Rachel, but I feel like there's going to be a big twist with her character and the reasons behind her actions. Bam will not just let Rachel slip out of his life and pretend everything is fine. But I don't think he fully understood what he was getting himself into when he followed.

"I will not be ruled. . .I make my own rules." - Khun

My favorite character in this webtoon would have to be Khun! Mischievous, mysteries, and highly intelligent. You can tell somethings up with him and he draws you in. I loved when Khun and Bam met up and had to face Rak. The trio is my favorite group and the dynamics between them are just comical.

"This place. . .belongs to hunters." - Rak

This webtoon has some darker elements the more you get into it and individuals backstories. There's no language in the book other than "dangit" or "darn". There's no fanservice so far with the webtoon but there is some violence and blood. Nothing is gory or really detailed out, but this has "Hunger Games" vibes and not everyone will make it to the top. Bam and majority of the characters seem like they're teenagers with some older cast sprinkled in.

I love the plotline so far and the mystery of it all. One of my favorite scenes was pictured in this volume! The scene featuring Lero Ro's pretest. . . Had me grinning and stating this will be a very interesting read! If you have watched the anime series this volume goes until the end of the pretest, ending on a cliffhanger. This is going to be a coming-of-age story with multiple tests for characters and their relationships.

I am excited to read more of the webtoon and see how the illustrations get better with each new volume. I love being able to see a start reference and an end one with how much the artist has improved. I still loved the art and the visuals of everything! Cannot wait for more!

Join Bam as he climbs the Tower with his determination set in stone. Don't forget to give the author some stars!

Really enjoyed this book. I started reading it when it was released on webtoons and I've been a fan ever since. The pacing is a little slow at the start but it really gets interesting as you go.

Let's face it — I was emotional while reading this. And normally I would be witty and smarter to say anything. But I was extremely invested reading this.

I've been excited for this one since I saw it was getting an official publication and it didn't disappoint! Tower of God mixes humor, wit, and an excellent story!

I was aware of the webtoon series so I was excited to read it. The plot is great and it has a great pace, so overall the reading was enjoyable.

I had heard of Tower of God, but wasn't aware it was a webtoon - I was only familiar with the anime. The art style is different from what I'm used to, but it was still easy to follow along (although some panels look rough). I like the plot and I think the pacing was fine. Bam (with his weird name) is likeable enough that I want to see him succeed so I know what happens next. I think this would be a great series to recommend to my students who are looking to diversify their comic reading.

I knew OF the Tower of God, because of the growing podfic (fanfic audiobook) community, but I hadn't gotten around to a reading trial. Well, I'm glad I got an ARC for this first volume (even if it is, of course, all on Webtoons), since it gave me the incentive to start this really fascinating story.

Only the most powerful, clever, and determined will ascend to the top of the Tower. Bam is...perhaps not clever, but is certainly determined, entering the Tower in the hopes of seeing his childhood friend again. And there begins a series of trials that even now are still being published.

Of course, as with any good comic protagonist, Bam is Special. Or, more accurately, Irregular, which makes him powerful, but also a major target for test administrators, who seem to have it out for Irregulars.

A major highlight for volume 1 is Rak Wraithraiser, a sort of crocodile-man who is just...dumb as a sack of hammers. He's your standard "just wants to fight and be the strongest" character, but there's no conniving in him. No grand plan. (At least so far.) He just genuinely wants to fight, to the extent of almost dying because he won't listen to test instructions. He's so stupid, I love him.

This first volume convinced me to finally install Webtoons and get to reading. A delight!

Thank you, Webtoon Book Group, for the advance reading copy.

For one, I would opt anything that Webtoon offers BLINDLY. I was so sure I would love this series.

I love the artwork and the art sequence. However, for such a story I would like to have more action oriented scenes more than more dialogue scenes. I feel like I am asking for too much. So I will keep quiet.

Make me love this series more with the upcoming volumes.

I know how hard the author/artist work for a Webtoon series! Keep up the good work.

I actually really liked this. The premise of the story is very interesting. It reminds me a bit of Hunter x Hunter because of the fact that they have to fight to get up the tower. It has a bit of Hunter x Hunter meets Hunger Games and I like it. I'm curious to see where this story is going. The characters are very interesting. I really like Khun. I'm curious to see how Bam and Khun will work together. Definitely interested to continue this story.

I really appreciate the way that comics that started out on Webtoon are now being published in full volumes. I'd never gotten around to reading this one til now, and it's really interesting. It reminded me a little of Sword Art Online but with a different twist. I'm interested to read more.

Tower of God was a super fun and quick read. As someone who wasn’t previously familiar with this story, I was somewhat confused initially, but that didn’t stop me from being immediately drawn into the world that this book created. I loved the idea of the different floors with different challenges that the main character has to go through, to find the person he is searching for. I’m also really intrigued by some of the characters, and I can’t wait to find out more about them in the next volumes.

I'm a bit hesitant to review this volume as I understand that it's a collection of webtoon strips and it does have a decently simple premise (protagonist Bam wants to go up a tower to meet his friend but there's a ton of obstacles in his way). However, I don't think this collection translates well to the medium, as the paneling feels inconsistent and off. There were times where I tried reading the manhwa in a manga format before I realized it should be read as a traditional western comic.

The art style is a bit divisive as well; the end of the volume has much more improved artwork, but most of it is lacking with a focus on character faces rather than backgrounds. The art looks rough (which is normally fine in a webtoon, since they're made very quickly), and it never really looks eye-catching until the 2nd floor chapters.

In all honesty I'd wait until the second volume comes out, or you can just read the series on Webtoon for a purer experience.
