Betrayal jumps straight to the action when a murder shakes up a whole community. As his widow and sons try to find his killer, each of his "friends" are revealed as not so friendly. Who can they trust when they discover what they knew of the victim was only what he chose to show them. A good solid mystery thriller.

Thank you to Netgalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Kerry Kaya is in my opinion quickly becoming the Queen of Gangland. All her books are well-written, full of suspense, and twists and turns. I can't wait to read the next book from this talented author. Recommended.

An explosive start to a new series.

The tempest family headed by Terry tempest. Are a very wealthy gangland family from Dagenham, Essex.

They consist of Terry, his wife Tracey, and their two sons Ricky and Jamie. It's a major birthday for Terry and Tracey wants to throw him a surprise party at his luxury home with his friends and family. But tragedy strikes, leaving the family both angry and vengeful.

We meet Kenny Kempton who is Terry's business partner and best friend, and Terry's mother Patricia who is a bit of a handful and whom Tracey has come close to lamping on many occasions. Also, an old friend Max Hardcastle who has not long been released on license from prison for murdering his mum's husband for prostituting her and generally abusing her. He would have gotten away with it but somebody grassed him up?

The plot thickens. This book is exciting and has the potential for the rest of the series to be equally so.
The characters bring the pages alive, and the story keeps you gripped until the last page.
Thank you, NetGalley for allowing me to read and review this excellent book

What a brilliant start to a new series by this author. I have read a few of her books and she doesn't hold back when she writes her gang-style stories.

Tracey Tempest has a bit of an eye-opener when she discovers exactly how her husband has made his money. Even though his sons, Ricky and Jamie are part of the family business there is a lot they don't know about either. While they are coming to terms with the death of Terry, their husband and father, the family also discover some really shocking news. It isn't the boys who are out for the truth, in fact, it is their Mum, Tracey. She has really got the bit between her teeth and she has no care about who she confronts. Ignorance is bliss for her, and allowances are made.

From the outset I really took to Tracey, she is the stay-at-home wife and Mum, always looking out for the men in her life. She has a nice house, and a great lifestyle and then suddenly the rose-tinted glasses are destroyed. I have a feeling the author really had fun with the character and it was great to see Tracey become the force I have a feeling she was always meant to be. I will admit that she did come across as naive, but no more so than her sons.

Having a character like Tracey was great, as she doesn't know any of " the baddies" she has no fear about asking hard questions, this played out well when she discovers an ally. Believe me when I say she will need an extra set of muscles for this story and it is the start of what I hope will be a business arrangement, or maybe more!

This is hard-core as far as some of the storylines are concerned. There are aspects of gang land crime that you expect to see in this style of story, and the author definitely includes some of them. I am not going to mention what they are, but I will say that there are some very unsavoury characters that have no consideration for others.

The main storyline for this book was great, combing grief with unearthing some awful truths was a great way to bring a close family even closer together. I am really looking forward to seeing where the author takes this series. I am sure there will be more shocks and secrets to be unearthed.

This is one for those who like their crime thrillers on the hard-boiled side, with a strong gang-related thread and what better way to read a book by this author than with the start of a new series. This is a cracker and one I would definitely recommend.

I’d like to thank Boldwood Books and NetGalley for giving me the opportunity to read ‘Betrayal’ by Kerry Kaya in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.

Tracey Tempest is holding a 50th birthday party for her dearly-loved husband Terry when there’s a single gun shot and Terry slumps to the ground dead. Tracey is intent on searching for whoever is responsible but the more she digs the more secrets she uncovers that Terry kept from herself and their two sons Ricky and Jamie.

‘Betrayal’ is the first book in a new gangland series featuring the Tempest family who live and run their business in Essex. With the remaining members of the Tempest family, together with their friend Maxwell Hardcastle and the devious law-breaking Murphy family, there’s a well-written plot, plenty of action, drama and suspense. It’s enjoyable to read and although not the best gangland thriller I’ve read, the set-up bodes well for more novels in the future.

Tracy Tempest was so happy she was throwing a surprise party for her husband of 30 years Terry Tempest their adult children Jamie and Ricky hope to have a marriage as loving as their parents but when a gunshot interrupted the party and ended Terry’s life she was beside herself with grief and after going through their financial papers she kept saying the name of a car dealer ship owner named Maxwell Hardcastle it went on for a few months but ended abruptly and she was convinced this is why he was murdered. She even goes to his car dealership after Terry‘s business partner and best friend Kenny told her he was dangerous in “yes, he probably was the one who did it!“ her boys were so worried about their mother. They understood she was grieving but it seems she is losing her mind and when they find out she went to visit Max at the car dealership they finally convince her that he was a friend to their father and would’ve never had him murdered. lots of people looked up the Terry, although he dealt in the shady your side of business he still had lots of allies and people who wanted to find his killer. It’s too bad his business partner it supposed best friend Kenny didn’t seem to be on board with that. When Max comes back to town where he Kenny and Terry grew up he find out that Terry and Kenny were working with the Murphy’s the white trash of the estate but when he finds out the kind of business deal they had he is blown away. This is how Tracy‘s biggest suspect turns into her biggest ally and helps her and the boys find out the truth. I love this authors books and she did not disappoint with this one. When I first started reading it and realize the nature of the plot I was disappointed, but not for long Carry Kya such a great writer and want to get into one of her books it’s hard to stop reading it. I highly recommend this book if you like a thrilling ride with twist you need to read Betrayal it’s so intense in such a great book! I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Tracey Tempest is married to Terry, and they have two grown up sons Ricky and Jamie. She loves her husband very much and she decides to throw him a surprise 50th birthday party. While she is waiting for Terry’s business partner Kenny Kempton to bring Terry home. She at first must deal with his mother, who she has never got on with. Kenny and Terry are business partners and have been friends from being kids, both from the East End of London, and not adverse to wheeling and dealing to bring the money in.

Neither have worked in a full-time job for anyone else and always worked for themselves. Terry is a family man who has been married to Tracey for a long time and has 2 sons, Jamie and Ricky who also work for them on the debt collecting side of the business.

Kenny is also married and has a son called Shaun who also works in the business they have created.

Everything is on the up and up and the business is doing well, Terry is turning 50 with a surprise party organised by his loving wife Tracey, when Terry is celebrating his birthday Terry is shot dead.

Who would want to kill Terry?? Who would have the balls to kill Terry at his only party and why??

This is what the family want to know and will stop at nothing to find out!!! But in the process of finding this out they also find out lots about Terry that they didn't know and how their world changes!!

Great fast paced storyline with lots of twist and turns that keep you wanting you to turn the pages.

Well written with a great mix of characters, well worth a read!!!

This is the first in a new series by Kerry Kaya, featuring the Tempest family, in a new gangland story. It has plenty of tension, secrets and twists as Tracey seeks to find the person who murdered her husband. A web of lies and secrets are unfolded as she soon begins to doubt the life she had with her husband. There is excellent characterisation and the author is well versed in how to connect with her readers, it certainly gripped me from the first page. This is a must read for fans of gangster thrillers and one which I would recommend, from an author at the top of her game. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

It’s Terry Tempest’s 50th Birthday and his wife Tracy has organised a ‘surprise’ party. All their family and friends are there ready to wish Terry a happy birthday, including his sons Ricky and Jamie, who are both a chip off the old block and also work for Terry and his long-time friend Kenny Kempton.

Terry does well to act surprised when he walks into his party, but a much bigger surprise rears its head only minutes later, in the form of a tragedy which will have ever-lasting repercussions for the family.

Whilst Tracy starts looking into Terry’s business affairs, Ricky and Jamie want answers and will stop at nothing to get them. Tracy soon learns that she didn’t know her husband as well as she thought, and with her sons they uncover Terry’s unpleasant business dealings, with both Kenny and the tall handsome Max Hardcastle, another of Terry’s childhood friends. What they discover risks tearing the Tempest family apart and will sully Terry’s memory forever.

I really enjoyed this book, the first I have read by this author. I loved the character Tracy, and this is a gripping first book in the Tempest series, so I hope to get more acquainted with her in the next books in the saga. I would highly recommended Kerry Kaya for a gritty, gripping gangland crime book.

4.5 stars rounded up

The Tempests Book 1

Tracey Tempest adores her husband, Terry, But when on his fiftieth birthday, tragedy strikes, Tracey must face the terrifying prospect of a futire without him. Desperate for answers and boiling with rage, Tracey wants revenge....

Set in Dagenham, London: We meet a new gangland family - Terry Tempest, the husband and father. Tracey, the wife and mother, And their two sons Ricky and Jamie. We also meet Kenny Kempton, Terry's business partner. Terry's mother, the cankerous Patricia.

I was hooked from the very first page and I could not put the book sown again. The characters are well rounded. I liked some of the characters and loathed others. I did like Tracey, she's one feisty woman who will stop at nothing to find out who had killed her husband. The pace is fast throughout. This is a great start to a new series even though some of the loose ends weren't tied up. Hopefully this will be resolved in the next book.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BoldwoodBooks and the author #KerryKaya for my ARC of #Betrayal in exchange for an honest review.

Mystery and intrigue…death and betrayal…a husband dies and his widow and children are left to pick up the pieces. He looked to be a criminal. All she had known was a lie. She mourned…she searched for answers. This is a quick read…the characters are likable and some not so much…honesty…dishonest…who knows what? The widow wants to know what happened, but her sons are not forthcoming. This book was sent to me electronically by Netgalley for review. Curl up in a cozy chair and be transported into the world of mystery.

📚📖 BOOK REVIEW 📖📚

📖 Book - Betrayal
✍️ Author - Kerry Kaya
📕 Publisher - Boldwood Books. Welcome to the introduction of the Tempest Family. The first book in which I hope will be another series from Kerry Kaya! Tracey has organised a party for her husbands birthday. They were childhood sweethearts and they lived a good life with their 2 sons. When Terry suddenly is out of the picture…. Tracey discovers that her husband is not what he seemed. Maybe she didn’t know him as much as she thought she did. Really like this book. Definitely kept me more gripped, the further into the book I went. I am hoping there will be a follow up book …… I for one will definitely read it! By the end of the book, I loved the character Tracey ….. she grew on me. Love to see her in the next book 😉.

Betrayal (The Tempests Book 1)
What a superb read. I really did enjoy this book. It's great knowing this is book 1 you can just tell that this is going to be an exeptional series of books.
Certainly a great start to a series, getting to know characters is fun. A birthday party ends in distaster.
When her husband Terry was shot in his own garden at his own party - Tracey is determined to find out why and by who. What didn't she know of her husband or what he was involved in. What will she do without him?
Is grief feeding her imagination? Is grief leading her in too deep.

what a great read, a great start to what will be a superb series.

Kerry Kaya does it again, a brand new family, brand new series and a fantastic full on gangland tale full of drama, big characters, gritty stories and real life storytelling
As always the author does not shy away from any subject and this time we find ourselves in the midst of some nasty people trafficking and a family (The Tempests ) reeling when they find out unwittingly they are part of this sordid business
We also meet The Murphy’s,you couldn’t wish for a set of folk to love to hate more than these,Bianca will make your blood boil and Kevin, well even through the pages you feel his evil and menace
This author goes from strength to strength and her books are now amongst my favourites,I really really look forward to the other books in this series
A brilliant read
