I really enjoy the Little People, Big Dreams series. These books expose young children to positive role models in a world full of such negativity. This one tells the story of the first African American woman in space. Mae's story is inspiring and shows children that sky is the limit.

Mae Jemison by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara explores the life of this extremely intelligent woman. By age 20, Jemison was already in medical school. She put her training to good use with the Peace Corps. Once her stint with them was over, Jemison decided to make a childhood dream come true. She applied to and was accepted into NASA's astronaut program. In 1992, Jemison became the first black woman in space!

The end of the book contains a more detailed look at Jemison's life, using language suited for much older readers. Inspirational and educational both, this entire series is great! I read this with my cubs. We love this series! Highly recommended!

The Little People, Big Dreams series is made up of informative and inspirational child friendly biographies. This entry highlights Mae Jemison, a scientist and astronaut, also being the first black woman in space. Her story begins when she is a young girl in school loving the stars and space. She wanted to be a scientist, someone who studies the stars. When she read her first Science Fiction book about exploring the galaxies, she was hooked. Her favourite TV show was Star Trek and her favourite crew member was Lieutenant Uhuru, a character that looked like her. Mae accelerated her education and graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering and African American studies at a young age. She next went to Medical School and spent time in the Peace Corps. When she returned from Africa, she was told she was accepted into the NASA astronaut program. After a lot of training, she was selected to go into space on the Endeavour She achieved her dream and spent time visiting schools and groups to encourage others to dream big and work hard to fulfil those dreams. I think the illustrations in this book are some of the best in the series. They are realistic and add to the story, along with the timeline and further resources at the end of the book.

'Mae Jemison' by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara with illustrations by Janna Morton is a biography for young readers of the first black woman in space.

Mae Jemison dreamed of going to space when she was young. She was inspired by Star Trek and specifically Nichelle Nichols. It took her a while because NASA had to change, but she became an astronaut and inspired young people. She even showed up on an episode of Star Trek!

I love the Mae Jemison story and it's told here very well. The illustrations are great too!

May Jemison was the first black female astronaut for the US. When she was younger, she was told her dreams were too hard to attain, and she decided to prove everyone wrong. She was a star student, a medical doctor, and eventually an astronaut. She continues to help others achieve their dreams now that she saw some of hers. I love that this book shows how important education is, and that you can do and be anything no matter who you start out as in life.

Mae Jemison by Maria Isabel Sanchez Vegara was a wonderful little colourful book with great Illustrations throughout .

This is a Little book about Mae Jemison, who was a scientist, astronaut, and the first ever black woman in space.

When Mae Jemison was a little girl, she dreamed of blasting off into space on a rocket ship. She was so excited as she watched the Apollo Moon landings, but she wondered... why none of the astronauts were women?
Mae loved science and was so bright that she started college at just 16, and was training to be a doctor by the age of 20. She joined the Peace Corps, using her medical knowledge to help people in countries all around the world. Upon returning to the United States, she was accepted into NASA's astronaut program.

After hard work and training, in 1992 Mae became the first Black woman to travel into space! This inspiring book features stylish and quirky illustrations and extra facts at the back, including a biographical timeline with historical photos and a detailed profile of the groundbreaking astronaut's life.

I am so glad these books are being published and I highly recommend all of these books

Yet another brilliant addition to the ‘Little People, Big Dreams’ series. We love Mae Jemison in this household and this book was a fantastic resource to support understanding.

Mae’s life was shared thoughtfully, highlighting her achievements and dreams and it encourages us to have big aspirations regardless of what limitations others may place on us. It outlined simply the prejudice she has faced in order to accomplish all she has but does so in a way that can be understood by young children.

As always, beautiful illustrations that are really engaging. We love the inclusion of an additional fact section and timeline towards the end to give extra details.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

This books is a fantastic view into the wonderful Mae Jemison. My favorite lesson was how her teacher tried to discourage her from becoming a scientist but she did it anyways. That's such a strong thing to teach children. I read it with my son and he said her story was "pretty cool". This is my first Little People, Big Dreams book and I am looking forward to reading it with my daughter when she's older.
Thank you to the Publisher and NetGalley for the book!
