If you are in the mood for a compelling, twisty, domestic thriller you need look no further!
This is the type of novel that you could easily read in one sitting. It is riveting, and would make an awesome movie.
There are two main narrators at play here, and each has a distinctive and uniquely engrossing tale to tell. Millie, the ex-con maid is in her late twenties, is desperate to keep her position as housemaid to the Winchester’s. Nina, the wealthy, spoiled wife, is prone to mercurial moods, and she has her own secret agenda… Strong characterization made both narrators easy to relate to.
This novel contains many elements of the classic suspense thriller, gaslighting being just one. There were also themes of spousal abuse, manipulation, and desperation.
“The Housemaid” was the first novel I’ve read by this author, and rest assured I will have her name on my radar for future reads.
Recommended highly to those readers who covet major plot twists, strong characters, and domestic thrillers that chill you to the bone…

I have to say the cover is compelling on its own. It is begging you to see what is on the other side of that keyhole and it is a good depiction of the secrets behind the Winchesters’ doors.
This story captured my attention in many ways. The plot is definitely twisted so do not expect to get through this book without knowing that you will be witness to some horrific and vivid crimes, both physically and psychologically.
Regardless of that, the story is one that begs you to keep reading, just to see what else could happen. The character development is detailed and the plot is written where some subtlety rules but on the other hand intense scenes reign. With each turn of the page, you are treated to scenes that make you wonder what else could happen.
The book is written in three parts and while the first part seems a bit slow to start, it soon ramps up and the trippy turns take center stage.
This is my first book by McFadden. Definitely different with a plot that leaves you shaking your head. Unique and a bit disturbing!
