This book is so amazing! I read the first and quickly feel in love with Tara’s way of writing! She did it again with such engaging, real, down to earth methods to talk about mental health and self-growth! My first read is always an ‘I cannot for the life of me put this down’ and then quickly I reread to digest and implement all of her awesome tools and tips! All I can say is way to go to Tara for getting me reading again and ready to better myself some more because it is never a complete process. I am happy I get to share this with close family and friends on their on journeys, too.

When I was in my early twenties, I read A LOT of self help books because, well, I was in my early twenties, lost, and needed some sort of direction in my life. What I didn't realize at the time was that so many self help books were chock full of toxic positivity and pill shaming around antidepressants, which made my feelings of being lost even worse.

Tara Schuster's Glow in the Fucking Dark is the opposite of the toxically positive, spiritually bypassing material that is saturating most of the self help genre today. Tara writes with such a unique and refreshing voice; the acknowledgement of, "Hey, the world can be a messed up place, it's pretty fucking scary, but guess what? We can find ways to heal our anxieties, make a micro shift in the world for the better, and maybe have fun along the way." So many times, I gasped when reading because I had experienced really scary bouts of anxiety and depression, but until reading this book, I thought I was alone in feeling this way. While the tools outlined in this book are invaluable, the greatest gift was knowing that finally, somebody sees me. I highly recommend it.

Perfect for fans of self-help and motivational books. Schuster has turned her own trauma,, distress, and difficulties into life lessons and encouragement. It's not new but she's put a different spin on finding your best self and living your real life. Thanks to netgalley for the ARC. For those looking for a motivator.

I really did want to like this one as much as I liked her first book, but this one was a little too rambling for even me, a oversharing rambler! I do like her personality that completely shines through both books, and appreciated her recaps at the end of each chapter. But I found myself skimming and all together skipping chapters that I didn't have interest in. I think I'll just stick to her newsletters from now on.

Thank you Netgalley for the ARC!

I was lucky to receive an ARC of this book. I am so grateful! I was a huge fan of Tara's first book, Buy Yourself the F-ing Lilies. I've read several times, and purchased as gifts for many of my friends. I was so excited when she announced her following, Glow in the F-ing Dark. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed. While Lilies helped me build daily self care rituals, that drastically improved my mental health, Glow goes so much deeper. To get to the root of our issues. Many times, I had to put the book down because I felt like she was speaking directly to me. And that's one of my favorite things about Tara's writing. Her books aren't filled with a lot of medical and scientific jargon. They are conversational and relatable. Honestly, she feels like a friend and I desperately want to be a member of her lady harem.

So I will start by saying I don’t think this was nearly as good as her first book and simultaneously if you haven’t read that book you probably wouldn’t get as much out of it. That being said, I really like her style of writing. It’s part self help, part essays, part comedy. So even if I didn’t feel like I was learning anything I didn’t know, or if was disjointed, it didn’t really matter that much. I was still entertained and still happy she wrote another, if only to get a life update on how she’s doing.

When I got an e-mail from Tara, saying that I was among the Chosen ones to enter her Secret Glow Club, I was beyond happy. At first, I couldn't believe that this was happening. Immediately, I had to see the video that she sent to us, where she, by herself, talked about what a journey this will be. The vibe inside our community was like a glowing star, every single one of us was so excited that this is happening.

My feelings towards Tara's book are that this is a raw journal of emotions. In there I feel a woman who is working every day on learning about herself, healing, finding her truths, and not being afraid to dig deep in a quest to open up her soul and show us every little part of her. And in that process, she selflessly shares all that she had felt and learned, because she wants to be there for all of us because she wants all of us to glow together. She is a woman on a mission, wanting that no one of us feels alone. That we don't feel that it's not possible to heal and learn how to work on ourselves. It's hard, she is not hiding that, but it is possible. I laughed, I cried, and I took breaks to process everything that she said, I repeated questions that she asks us in the book.

The thing that I love about Tara's writing is that she is so honest with herself, and with us readers. She is not trying to wrap her words in the paper, so they sound more acceptable. No, she is sharing her truths with us and she is sharing everything that helped her in this path of soul-searching and mending. It's not important if we don't share the same past. But as Women, we all experienced the emotions that Tara is describing in her book, towards love searching, job relations, money, self-love, body acceptance, learning how to be alone, accepting and loving ourselves so we can be good on our own. I love how she is learning all the time throughout the book and how she is brave to confess when she is wrong and accept the new and realized truth.

We are not alone in this world, we matter and we have so much to offer. We just need to look closely into ourselves. That's what Tara wants us to know. She shouts that to us, with love and joy. GIRLS; WE GLOW!

Thank you, Tara Schuster, for making me feel so special!

Thank you, Bonnie Donaghy, for believing in Tara and supporting her.
Thank you Stephanie Bowen for our Secret Glow Club in Mighty Networks.

I really enjoyed Tara Schuster's first non-fiction book and I was excited to see that she was coming out with another book. I equally enjoyed this book. I personally feel if you have had childhood trauma and you feel like you have been lost for most of your life and had to grow up faster than what you wanted to, this book is 100% for you. I highlighted so many quotes and just took my time with this book letting every single chapter sink in. I know "self help" books aren't for everyone, but this one didn't come across as cheesy or preachy. The humor in this book is great as well. If you enjoy nonfiction books that really make you reflect on your own life, this is the book for you. 4.5 stars.

Tara’s first book, Buy Yourself the F*ing Lilies, is one of my all-time favorites, so I couldn’t wait to read this one. While her first book is about reparenting through self-care, this one goes deeper into examining trauma and healing your relationship with yourself, family, spirituality, money and more.
I love that Tara is able to offer such great wisdom and compassion while at the same time being hilarious. This is a book that makes you happy to be alive and realize that you alone are responsible for that happiness. I also adore the idea that self-care is community care. I loved this book and look forward to revisiting it when I need a boost.

Wow! Thank you Tara for giving me the gift of your book and also the gift of being an early reviewer and reader. This book is like have a convo with your BFF about the sh*T of life while laughing and crying. This book is great at helping you to find your confidence and why you deserve to glow! I will be sending this book to my 23 year old daughter so she can also find her GLOW! So many great excerpts that I could share, so many, that you may as well get the book. This book will help you along your healing journey while laughing at yourself and loving yourself all at once.

Just when I thought that no book could ever top "Buy Yourself The F*cking Lilies", Tara Schuster did it again!

With her new book, Glow in the F*cking Dark, Tara goes beyond self-care and reparenting and explores the little, yet powerful steps that you can take to reconnect with your authentic self and grow yourself up to build the life YOU want. Unlike other self-help books, Glow in the F*cking Dark is not at all condescending and does not tell you what to do to solve your "problems". Instead, the book emphasizes that “Getting lost is as important as getting found” and that “You don’t need to change into someone else, you need to grow into yourself”.

Glow in the F*cking Dark is a kind, genuine, practical, empathetic, relatable and honest memoir from “Someone who’s been there”. You will feel seen, supported, heard and acknowledged - but also, less lost and alone. As Glennon Doyle put it for Tara’s first book, “You are going to want Tara to become your new best friend”. Correction: TARA IS GOING TO BECOME YOUR NEW BEST FRIEND. In fact, Tara is 100% going to make you laugh, cry, dream, and look inwards, all of which will help you heal, grow and GLOW ✨ into the person you want to become.

As Tara explains, healing is not a linear process and you can’t hustle your way through life. But, if you are:

- Wondering ‘Who am I?”,
- In the middle of a life crisis,
- Questioning what you really want out of life,
- Uncertain about what you are hustling for,
- Feeling lost or as if you are in the backseat of your own life,
- Unsure about how you feel, or
- Trying to solve an undefined “problem” within you

Then look no further. Glow in the F*cking Dark is the book for you! Do yourself a favour and get yourself a copy 💛

I was thrilled to receive an advanced copy from NetGallery, having been a fan of Tara’s work since I devoured Buy Yourself the F****** Lillies when it first came out. Reading her work is like having a conversation with my Inner Self, she is sharp and honest and candid in a way that feels refreshingly human.

While this book seemed to be a little more wandering in nature than Lillies it seemed to mirror all that we collectively went through over the last few years. At times it has an almost scattered nature to it that feels similar to how we’ve all been making it through since the pandemic really began. Just a honest, doing-our-best, tackling one thing at a time and adding it on to our arsenal as we trudge on. The tools Tara presents here are practical and easy to use as you work to build rituals in your day-to-day life.

And, if ever there was a time that we needed a book that felt so much about trying our best to find joy, and pleasure, and satisfaction in a chaotic world, it’s now.

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

Fans of Tara Schuster’s first book do NOT want to miss this fantastic follow-up.

The best way I can describe this book is that it has “women’s bathroom” energy: giggling, knowing girliness coexisting with shake-you-by-the-shoulders real talk.

None of the advice here is particularly revolutionary or novel. This is not a lifestyle manual, a hot new fix-your-brain regimen or a 30-day cleanse to reach your deepest self. Self-improvement readers have heard it all before: meditate, journal, care for your physical health, and build up a community you can rely on. The value of Glow in the F*cking Dark is not in its suggestions, but in the earnest “someone who’s been there” case it makes to DO THE HEALTHY THING, even when it sucks.

Tara does not prescribe fixes, but she extends her love and good humor to anyone who is “going through it.” Her writing is hilarious, vulnerable, “relatable” without being trashy, “powerful” without being corny or pompous. The book is a fun, breezy, loving reminder to focus on what truly matters and let the rest fade away.

Tara did it again! But this time deepened all of the goodness we took from Lillies. The other thing is you don’t truly need to read Lillies to read Glow. This book sticks with me, it’s something to chew on, it’s being in touch with you. I’ve already recommended it. Tara didn’t write it for just her, she wrote it for us.

When I heard Tara was writing another book to help one further reparent themselves, I was ecstatic! And this book did not let me down! Tara has a way of resonating with the reader. The words come off the page and fill your mind like a you’re chatting with your best friend. The friend that isn’t afraid to point out your issues, but then also helps guide you with how to work in them. She helps guide the reader through addressing their own trauma…..highlighting that not all traumas are the same for everyone. I for one did not think my past experiences where bad enough to be considered traumatic, but Tara helped me see that just because they weren’t as bad as other peoples issues doesn’t mean they weren’t traumatic for me. She opens your eyes and gives you tips to dig deeper and heal because she has been through it. And the best part is she does it all while sprinkling in humor and not sounding all self-help-preachy. Definitely recommend this book for anyone who feels something isn’t right in their life and who is willing to do the work to fix it. Take it in at your own pace and enjoy the journey.

Tara Schuster does it again. I thought Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies was the best self-help book I ever read but man oh man was I wrong! Lilies was just the start! Glow in the F*cking Dark is a masterpiece. Tara deep dives into the capital T Trauma of her life and see that underneath all her carefully planned self care routines, there are still so many scars hiding inside herself. But she is determined to find them all and love herself whole. Reading Schuster's book is like talking with a friend, you'll cry then you'll laugh, and then you will cry again. Glow in the F*cking Dark gets real, it says deal with your s*it or it will deal with you. Tara takes an amazing journey and brings you along promising real deep change, if you can handle the deeply uncomfortable truth of the healing process which is (unfortunately) it's not a straight line and it's not over yet (or maybe ever). But the good news that Tara brings is you aren't alone and you can do it!! And if you come along for this ride with her you will find your way back to yourself in all your true authentic glory, and you will quite frankly Glow in the F*cking Dark!

Reading Tara Schuster's «Glow in the Fucking Dark» is like reading your best friend's journal. It's full of vulnerable ideas, thoughts, and experiences with suggestions on how to move forward. It's healing, but from the perspective of someone who's been there and who is not afraid to share. It's a warm cup of coffee with your best friend, under a cozy blanket, wearing warm wool socks, with swearing. Reading Tara is an act of reparenting on the learning journey that is healing your inner child.

What a beautiful follow up to her first book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies. There’s a chance I enjoyed this one more! Written beautifully in a way that’s accessible and entertaining but strikes poignant truths that can resonate with anyone. I’m going to also be purchasing a physical copy (or two).
