Oh you know… just me talking with my therapist a couple of weeks ago about how important it is to heal your past and then this book shows up all of a sudden. It. Was. Amazing.

Thanks to Net Galley and the publisher for providing an advanced copy to review. I was SO excited to read this book. So excited! I loved the author’s first book and am on her mailing list because I feel like she’s someone I’d be friends with IRL if I was you know, 10 years younger, LA adjacent and funny. I was happy for her when she announced that she’d gotten a contract for a second book. Did I mention I was excited for this book? Because I really, really was. Unfortunately I didn’t love this book, I’m somewhere between tolerating and liking it. The good: she’s vulnerable and shares deeply personal experiences to illustrate points. There are a lot of topics covered that I think many people can relate to and helpful bite-sized suggestions. She doesn’t pretend to have more expertise other than experience. Some of the writing is charming and witty. However, what killed this book for me was it really felt like she was trying too hard to be funny. I hated the tone and all the footnotes. Why all the footnotes? It felt inauthentic and unfinished and then wrapped up with a how to be yourself pep talk about glowing. I may be in the minority, but this was a big miss for me.

Finished this super helpful book by Tara Schuster last night! It comes out in March and you’ll want to add it to your TBR! I loved the first book she wrote and this was almost as good. It was fascinating to read the raw stories Tara shares in this book and I especially enjoyed her comments at the end of each chapter. I was LOL at them. She has such a talent for comedy.

The other part of this book that has be suggesting that everyone get a copy when they can... Tara's tools for how to find your glow even when you're battling the dark times. I suffer from depression and anxiety so this is a highly relatable topic for me and even though I've been on a healing journey for some years, Tara still manages to provide a new way of coping and looking at mental health.

Thanks to NetGalley for the advanced copy. It was just what I desired!

It was a slow takeoff on this book but it got better as the book went on. Definitely some useful advice in the pages and it almost needs to be read by the younger generations. Maybe stop them from making some mistakes.

Another brutally honest, heartbreaking and at times funny look at Tara's ongoing journey of self-discovery and self-care. I feel so seen when I read her work! Keep it up, T$!!

I am already telling people about this book. I can't believe I have to wait so long to actually purchase a copy to reread and write in! Tara (and I said it the "right" way in my head) has done it again. In fact, when I get my copy, it's going right next to Glennon on my shelf. Wow. There aren't enough words to express how healing this book was for me. I read it at the perfect time for me and know it will resonate with so many others. Bravo!
