I was honored to receive an ARC from NetGalley - thank you!

As we know, we all have a f*cked up past in one way or another. But when you read Tara's "Glow in the F*cking Dark," you feel like you have a relatable bestie by your side, telling you the hard truths! When she takes you through her steps of "Heal," "Grow," and "Glow," you know that you can work through your trauma, too!

Tara provides not only relatable stories from her personal life, but practical applications and friggin' amazing journal prompts to help you pause, reflect and work through your own sh*t!

An undeniable smash hit to follow her amazing breakout "Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies." If you haven't read that as well, DO IT!

I hope you will join me as a future "Glow Getter!"

Thank you, T$, for another incredible journey! Tara's humor, candor, and insight make her an ever-entertaining read. Here's to doing better for ourselves, to liking (& even loving!) ourselves, and to break free of our own BS in 2023. Cheers!

Full disclosure, I'm a huge Tara Schuster fan and I received this ARC as part of being a "Glow Getter", someone who is helping to spread the word about this book. At the same time, I swear things like that would never impact my review. After Tara's first book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies, I started following everything Tara does. I love her weekly newsletter and the content she puts out on social media (especially the journaling prompts!).

Glow in the F*cking Dark is the very real continuation of Tara's healing journey. Life (not book) spoiler alert: healing and mental health is not an achievement or something we graduate from. At least in my experience, it's a meandering trajectory with peaks and valleys that hopefully get less volatile the longer I work on myself. Tara's goal, from what I understand, is to share what she has learned through her own experience in the hope that it (1) helps someone else experiencing something similar, (2) prevents someone from making some of the same mistakes she has, and (3) reminds each of us that we are never alone in our struggles. Glow in the F*cking Dark meets those goals and more - it made me laugh, regularly. Tara's level of vulnerability and transparency is special. Her detailed voiceover to life events made me feel connected to her as a reader (and think about my own life parallels along the way).

I really appreciated Tara's practical tools and tips. For example, Tara provides journaling prompts and self-reflection exercises throughout the book. She encourages the reader to stop what they're doing and try the technique or exercise she's recommended--not because she's a mental health professional, but because it has worked for her. It's written in a way that I felt I could earmark and come back to when I need it, even more than once. I also loved the quick tips at the end of most chapters!

Overall, Tara feels like your witty, whipsmart BFF, who also shows up to support you every step of the way. Highly recommend. Thank you to T$ herself and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review!

Thank you to NetGalley for allowing me to receive an ARC of this book. Tara is officially my new homegirl. She talks like me and she has been through enough trauma to last a lifetime. I can relate.

The book has very helpful activities to get you started on your journey to self-love and glowing in the f*cking dark. Her stories from her life add so much depth to the book. They really made her seem much more realistic. She's not just another author spewing some self-help mumbo jumbo. She has been through it and come out on the other side more healthy and alive. I truly admire her spirit.

On the downside, there are quite a few typos in the book...spelling...extra words in sentences that did not entirely make sense. Yet and still...I will give this book five stars because the content is valuable and is presented in a way that is not daunting to the reader.

Thank you NetGalley for this ARC, in exchange for an honest review!

Schuster did it again. I absolutely loved her first book, and this one is no different. This is an excellent self-help book that made me laugh, cry, and everything in between. I would recommend reading a chapter or two a day instead of in one shot to get the most out of what you read. There are also helpful tips and exercises at the end of each chapter, which all seemed beneficial. I will read absolutely anything that Tara Schuster writes!

I would love to listen to the audiobook version if and when it is released!

So I read Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies about 2 years ago, and was thrilled to see that Glow in The F*cking Dark was available! Tara Schuster has a way of writing that seems like you're chatting it up with your BFF. She gives relatable anecdotes as well as solid suggestions to the reader on how to tackle similar scenarios. I adore the writing and the book in general. The little stories she inserted here and there literally had me LOLing at times. This was certainly entertaining and a light-hearted non-fiction to kick off my new year!

The idea of this book intrigued me since I enjoyed her other book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies. I didn’t feel as connected with this book, though, and felt it was targeted more for a younger demographic.

With that said, mental health is no joke, and Schuster being so open and honest about her experiences made this a somewhat relatable read. I don’t feel the way she communicates in this book is authentic as some of it feels a bit forced, yet I still appreciate the attempts at turning such complex subjects into a more manageable and lighter topic.

Overall an interesting read, and I would still recommend. Definitely not your mom’s self-help book.

The publisher provided ARC via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Tara Schuster is back, thank goodness.

I loved her first book, BUY YOURSELF THE F*CKING LILIES. This time, she's talking about what can happen when you get yourself in "a good place".

Your brain decides you can handle facing things that you weren't capable of facing earlier.

Seems like kind of a crappy deal, doesn't it?

But listen. It's all part of being your best you. And, truly, it's all going to come out at some point, so you might as well manage this shit.

GLOW IN THE F*CKING DARK is a love letter to us from someone who has "been there". Tara is offering up what she's learned about responding to trauma and anxiety so we can all get our shit together faster and then meet for margaritas without crying. Or, you know, Book Club.

And now I'm wishing I hadn't loaned out my Lilies book. I could use a refresher.

Go ahead and pre-order this book that is due out in February. This is like a conversation with that bestie that loves you but also kinda calls you on your bullshit.

Thank you to @netgalley for the advance digital copy.

Thank you Net Galley for this ARC! I loved Tara Schuster's first book, Buy Yourself the F*cking Lillies and was really excited to pick this one up. Loved getting to see more of her self love journey and where her next chapter is taking her

This book didn't resonate with me as much as her first one did. I've read a lot of personal development and memoir, and didn't encounter anything here that I haven't before. I appreciate the author's honesty and sense of humor when it comes to sharing her own experiences. This book is meant for readers with less life experience than myself, people who are still trying to figure out who they are. One thing I like about Tara is that she's a proponent of therapy. While this one wasn't a hit for me, I'd still recommend it for younger readers.

I love a good self help book and this one did not dissappoint. Thank you to Netgalley for this advanced copy. I will surely re-read this one many times.

I was over the moon to get an advanced copy of this book and while I still would recommend it, I did not fly through it like I did her first book and It was a much slower read for me. The book did not flow and felt disjointed in parts. That being said, I find Tara to be a breath of fresh air and am always interested in what she has to say.

My favorite part of this book was the ‘A Little Thing That Helps’ section. Tara’s debut is one of my favorites and most recommended books. This book contained a lot of great advice, but was a little too wordy with the stories. This book is a must for anyone struggling with mental health. I would read anything by T$

I read Tara Schuster's first book and I really enjoyed it, so I was looking forward to this one as well. However, this book really fell flat for me. I'm not sure what changed, but it felt like in this book she really didn't have anything to say, so it felt like chapters of meaningless prattle. I appreciate that she is trying to be approachable and down to earth with the tone of the book, but I feel like a lot of the humor felt very forced. There were some lines I found poignant or relevant to my own life that I highlighted so I can come back to them. I think she really lost me in the "LadyGod" chapter. I found the entire chapter very cringeworthy and I found myself barely being able to read past this portion. I also really didn't like the footnotes. I don't know if it's a formatting thing, but they often weren't until the end of the chapter so I usually didn't remember what they were referring to and it seemed like too much of a pain to go back to each one to refresh my memory.

I've become quite a fan of Tara Schuster over the last couple of years. Her writing really strikes a chord for myself and many of our patrons. We will absolutely be buying a couple of copies for the library.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for letting me reivew this. Another amazing book from Tara Schuster. She puts so much advice onto her books, and does it very well too. I really enjoyed this one.
Read 'Glow in the F*cking Dark' you won't regret it. It has pushed me further to do what I want, and need to do in life. I can't wait to see if she puts a third book out.

This is the first Tara Schuster book I've read, but I enjoyed her lighthearted tone and funny stories as she breaks down getting through anxiety, trauma, and other difficult times. She offers really practical tips that could help someone who has tried other methods and felt they weren't doing it right. For example, for those who have tried meditation and thought it was impossible. She tells her own breakthrough story and then adds practical advice to reframe meditation in a new light. She also does the same with journaling, listing techniques to reframe emotions and giving readers examples of short exercises they can use to journal in a way that have not been written about a million ways before.

The book reallys shines when she shares how her perceptions were changed as when she begins to see anxiety as a blanket emotion for anger. In some ways, reading a book like this I expect to see the same old advice and sometimes that is helpful and comforting, but Schuster goes beyond that and breaks new ground to leave the reader with new insights.

I really enjoyed Buy Yourself the F*cking Lilies, so when Glow in the F*cking Dark was sent to me, I was really excited to give it a read! The book focuses more on dealing with trauma and tough times. The book offers useful tips with Schuster's usual humor and vibe. These are quickly becoming my favorite ‘self-help’ books!
