This was a fun book. The author weaved in some great twists and turns. Great characters to get hooked to and I couldn’t stop reading once I started.

Definitely would read more from Stephanie Hansen.

Thanks to NetGalley for this eArc for my honest review

This was a pretty decent book. It’s shown in two different POVs which I wasn’t expecting. It’s a fantasy book with a little bit of romance thrown in.

Ghostly Howls
By Stephanie Hansen
This is a book I really wanted to like. The blurb sounded right down my alley. Unfortunately, it wasn't for me. Those that follow me know I rarely give a poor rating. I think I was being kind even with this rating.

I do want to thank NetGalley and publisher for letting me read this book. The theme and blurb was great if the book could replicate that in the novel itself, wow, that would be awesome. Please work on it! It would be fantastic! Not kidding!

The characters POV jumped around without warning and it took me a bit to figure out who was talking, then it would jump again. The dialogue between each other didn't seem real. Neither did the sex scenes. The characters lacked depth and realism. The one character, that was supposed to know about ghosts, was clueless and asked everyone else for answers. There were so many unanswered, or unnecessary, secrets floating around. Maybe the answers are for the next book but there wasn't enough intrigue built up to care about any of them. Then the end just stops. As will I.

I did not enjoy this book as much as I wanted to. The Irish Folklore is what caught my attention in the synopsis, but the writing was so clunky, and the narrative voice between the characters was so similar that I had a hard time staying invested. I had to keep going back and re-reading passages so I could remember who was narrating the chapter.

I also kept forgetting that the characters were supposed to be adults. They didn't always act or react to things the way adults would, at least in my opinion. Getting almost overly upset at not being believed for small things. Even the way they talked felt a little forced. The dialog was very clunky and didn't flow in a way that seemed natural to me. There are a number of grammatical errors, but this book is a ways out from being published, so those can be fixed, and hopefully, they do. This book has potential, it just didn't work for me.

***I received this advanced copy for free provided by NetGalley and I'm leaving rhis comment voluntarily. ***
Let's start by the Irish folklore... can't say how exciting this was specially because we don't see it much in fantasy books and it locked my attention completely.
Wasn't really happy about being such a short book because I knew from the start that the story wouldn't have time to grow, but even thought it was short it still had loads of things happening from the beginning until the end.
I have to say I realized with this book I'm not a fan of anything related to terror because in the scene in Orla and Molly's house in the room they couldn't open I actually had to stop reading because it was night time and it would be a terrible idea.
I would love to read this book in an extended version since for me the negative point was definitely being so short, it worked against the book quality, specially in the scene in the lighthouse when I felt everything was happening so fast I couldn't really understand what was going on and when I finally understood it was already over.
Strong characters, definitely a lot of variety here and the plot was very strong.

I am not normally one to give a novel a poor review, but I really struggled with this book.

I think the story idea could have been really great, but the writing style made it very difficult to follow.

I liked the story idea and I think with some work this novel could be pretty good.

Things I didn't like:
I feel like the communication between the main characters was very disjointed and it was difficult to follow.

The chemistry between the couples felt forced and very unclear, especially between Molly and Cormac. I spent most of the chapters for Molly's pov confused about what was going on with her and Cormac and what was going on between Cormac and Oliver.

The action was also disjointed, I felt like I was playing catch up to know exactly what was happening.

The sex scenes, they felt forced and had too many descriptive words - he used his fingers skillfully ( what does that even mean)? There was also a lot of panting and handing roaming.

The action at the end of the novel started and then ended, I struggled to understand what was happening and then it was all over and everyone was going home.

No one is supposed to know about the supernatural world, and yet nearly all the characters we met knew something except for Dave, who in the end seems to be special in some way.

Orla was terrified of telling her secret because she would get in trouble... From who, what trouble? She had told people and nothing happened?

The scene between Cormac and Orla in the graveyard? There is so much that wasn't explained in this scene and the scenes that followed.

I do think this book could be great with a bit of work. I like the authors idea and the fact that she incorporated Irish myths and legends..

A good fast paced paranormal book with plenty of mystery and a little romance. I really enjoyed the folklore within the book and the quotes at the beginning of the chapters. I just think it would be a nice addition to get more back ground on the characters. Overall it was a really nice quick read.

This honestly felt more like a novella than a book or an early draft. We got half a story, but what we got was really interesting! I just felt like a huge chunk of the story was done off page and the reader was left in the dark. I loved the characters and wanted to know more about them and more about this town. We jumped time so much and so many things happened between chapters that it made me feel like I was watching random episodes of a show and missing big plot points.

My rate: 3 stars

In this book you can expect a good, fast paced, paranormal mystery with a hint of romance.

I really liked the quotes in the beginning of each chapter and found the Irish folklore references very interesting. I just wish we could get to know more of the paranormal world and more about the characters origins.

Overall, it was a fun quick read.

I'm always happy when Irish folklore is added to a story, we don't see enough of the Irish myths and legends in books. I thought Molly and Orla were interesting and unique characters and enjoyed getting to know them and the rest of the cast. I was invested in the plot and thought it was a good way of a potential series.

"We think it's safer if we all go together," I continue studying Dave's face trying to read how he feels about the situation. He leans forward, placing both hands around his mug on the table, staring into its dark depths as though wishing for something more than just coffee. Dave flips his wrist up, checking his watch."

I received a copy of Ghostly Howls by Stephanie Hansen from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This novel was okay, but I was not captivated and felt no connection to the characters or the plot. The summary seemed interesting, but the novel’s pacing was uneven and the characters were kind of boring. Just not my cup of tea.
