Shout out to Erica Ridley for writing all of these fun little adventures in between the main Wynchester series so we get to see more of them in action! I love all these characters, and this was another fun little side story!

Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for providing me with an arc for an honest review~

I would like to thank Netgalley and WebMotion for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

I loved this story, I would love to see more stories like this set in a historical setting.

The second novella is a better standalone than the first. We still have the book club ladies who are staunch friends and supporters of each other, but the lady at the helm of this narrative is not going to find her other half here. She is not exactly looking, either. She just wants to have a different experience in life. She runs into the most famous modiste in town and ends up catching her at her lowest point and offers to help for almost no reward. What follows is a complete investigative plan as everyone tries to follow up and solve the issue before the deadline.
The plot is light, filled with movement and progress. It also has a good cast which makes it an easy and fast read. I liked this much better than the first novella but still would have preferred to read it as part of the larger set.
I would recommend this series to fans of this genre.

I received an ARC thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, but the review is entirely based on my own reading experience.

Another great addition to The Wild Wynchesters! I always love picking up a book by Ms. Ridley. Her stories ways provide such fun and entertainment, I can never put them down. And this one was no different. In this delightful story, Sybil and her friends discover that the modiste's shop has been broken into and all the ballgowns have been stolen. Sybil and The Heist Club then offer to help retrieve the dresses and embark on a fun adventure.
This cute, cozy mystery was full of fun and charm and I had a delightful time reading it. With lovable characters and an entertaining storyline, this story was perfect for a quick afternoon read. Definitely recommend!
I received a complimentary copy from Netgalley and am voluntarily leaving my review.

I received a copy of this from Netgalley and this is my freely given opinion.

This is the second novella in the Heist Club series, withing the Wild Wynchester's universe by Erica Ridley. I have the others of both series on my to-read list, but have not gotten to them as yet. Not because I do not want to, but frankly, my to-read collection will likely outlive me. Regardless, I decided to sample this as a little amuse-bouche between other books.

This is a cute, humorous little story about a mystery involving stolen gowns from the popular modiste Madame Blanchet. Socially insignificant spinster Sybil Stamper is a member of the reading circle known as the Heist Club, after helping the Wynchesters in a previous investigation. She runs into Mme Blanchet when the latter borrows from a little lending library that Sybil helps to manage, and when she offers the modiste a ride back to her shop, they discover the break in and the theft of Blanchet's collection of 25 gowns that will be due at the start of the Season within a fortnight.

Sybil has a few suspects on her list already and engages other members of the heist club to investigate and things come to a head, she engages the help of the Wynchester's themselves, and ends up saving Blanchet's reputation and business by recovering her collection of gowns in time. Normally, Sybil would never be able to purchase a place on the waiting list for one of Blanchet's creations, let alone a gown of her calibre, but as a reward, Sybil is given one so she can make a dash at an upcoming ball she was lucky enough to be given an invitation to.

This was a very cute, fun, lighthearted, humourous light mystery. It was clean, low angst and just fun.

3.5 stars out of 5

I was provided the eARC of this novella by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This series of novellas is a secondary series of mysteries that goes along with the Wild Wynchesters romance series. This was a lot of fun. Sybil (our main character) is a member of the Heist Club reading group, and is probably the least wealthy of the group. Through her work with a charity lending library, she meets the dressmaker to the "ton". Every woman of quality wants her dress designed by this woman, but just after meeting Sybil, all her designs for the upcoming Vauxhall ball have been stolen! Sybil enlists the help of the Heist Club and subsequently the Wynchesters to recover the dresses and save the reputations of many ladies.

What I liked: It's not a romance. Sybil mentions hoping to cut a good figure at the ball and maybe even be asked to dance. She is not looking for a husband. Sybil is smart and orgagnized, and even though her friends rib her about it, she uses these skills to her advantage. She is relatable.

What I didn't like: There was one small plot hole that wasn't sewn up. In a book with less than 200 pages, it isn't that big a deal, but I had questions.

If you are a fan of the Wild Wynchesters, you might enjoy these light, side stories, but don't go in expecting a romance. This is more mystery with amateur, lady detectives and as such it is charming.

Perfectly lovely!! Sybil was such a dear, so sweet and good and clever, I wish we got to see more of her lists and more of her life, but hopefully that will come in a later book!!!

This book was everything I wanted it to be. It had me turned pages without even realizing. It was so good!

I always love checking in with the Wynchesters, but this one fell a bit flat for me. I felt like I was missing some backstory on our main girl Sybill, which made it hard to connect with her as a character. However, if you are looking for a quick mystery/adventure set in Regency England, this might be the novella for you! I can't wait for the next full-length Wynchester installment, and I would love it if Sybill makes an appearance!

This was such an adorably wholesome mystery with such a lovable and fun cast of characters that there was hardly a second to be bored!

This is a novella set in the WIld Wynchesters world. This one focuses more on a mystery rather than a romance. This one follows Sybil who purchases a dress from a new modiste and soon discovers that the modiste's dresses have been stolen. Sybil, with the Heist Club's help, join together to find out what happened to the dresses.

This was a fun, quick, and easy read. This was an ok read for me but it is a novella so is quite short and I didn't find the story to be particularly memorable.

Like the first book, The Rake Mistake, this is a quick read and an enjoyable read as well. And again it is Regency in period, fun and humourous and a delight to read. I read this book in a couple of hours as it is quite short and I loved the crazy ladies and their crazy ways.

Once they get their teeth into finding the thief they go for it and this is where the fun begins. And of course they get the job done! Such great characters, a few twists and of course Sybil comes to the rescue with her lists!

This is just a good book to read in one sitting between those long, epic books I read and I love that aspect. A good fun, entertaining book that made me smile.

I was not aware this book was part of a series, Wild Winchester series by Erica Ridley. I found out about the Governess Gambit initially into the book but this novella can still be read as a standalone.
A short, sweet and enjoyable read with a set of interesting characters. Sybil's coveted reading group, aptly giving themselves the title, The Hiest Club was funny, amd their dedication to finding the stolen modist dresses.
I only wish there was more character and plot development to give weight to the novella. Overall, a fun and quick read.

Part of a series about the Wild Wynchesters - it can be read as a standalone, but I think I'd have enjoyed it more had I know more about the family.

The Heist Club is back to solve another mystery - where did all the modiste's dresses go? And who took them before the big debuts? Is it the bickering mother's of the ton, trying to one up each other for attention for their daughters?

Thank you to NetGalley, the author and publisher for a temporary, digital ARC in return for my review.

Such a fun short! This was the second in the short series, but my first. After finishing this, I immediately started book 1, The Rake’s Mistake.

Another delightful installation of these crime solving women. Not really a Romance but it is a lot of fun and a lot of “girl power”. If you live the world of the Wynchesters, you will want to read this one too.

Interestingly, this "romance" book has basically no romance in it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. It's basically a mystery/burglary story and has all the Wynchester family fun that you would expect from this series. Although this makes me wonder if Sybil will get her own book after this, or if this is it....

Cosy regency mystery

This was a fun novella, however, perhaps it's just me, but I got left behind a little because I hadn't read the first in this series and any of the linked series. It is a good afternoon's read in front of the fire or sitting on a lawn chair. Imaginative plot, interesting characters and a lot of fun.

Thank you to the publisher who lent me a time-constrained e-arc via Netgalley. This review is optional and my own opinion.

The Modiste Mishap by Erica Ridley is the second book in the Heist Club series.

Historical cozy, fun and lighthearted. There is no romance, it is only hinted at. It’s a crossover between two series.
This novella is much slower than the first in the series.
Although I like the characters they can be a bit unrealistic at times.
All in all an interesting historical cozy good for an afternoon read.

A lovely, short story set in between the series of the Wynchester books. It has the same great humour, the same quirky women with their smart comments and they literally romp across regency society to get to the bottom of the missing dresses. It would definitely help to have read the other books in the series to get the full pleasure of the references, but it isnt essential and you'll love the book as a standalone too.
