This is a combination of a cozy mystery and a romance.
A little romance, a dab of suspense, and a whole lot of fun await you in the first book of the genre-skipping Rocky Mountain Cozies series.
What’s a big-city girl to do when she finds out her boyfriend is dealing shady business out of the apartment they share in Seattle? She grabs her big standard poodle named Rambo and runs to granny in small-town Colorado, that’s what!
The dog fits in just fine, but Jasmine’s ways of vegetarian eating and yoga are a bit different for this little mountain place. Meanwhile, the hunky sheriff—single, with a reputation as a player—won’t stop poking his nose into Jasmine’s past. Plus, he’s a bit too fond of the way she looks in yoga pants. Her boyfriend isn’t ready to let go, or forget that she knows about his illegal activities. Grandma, the colorful townsfolk, and the pets who populate the town are in for some thrills, chills and romantic double plays until Jasmine sorts her life out. Grab the popcorn!
This book is full of intrigue and romance. I haven't read a book by this author before but I will be on the lookout for more.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher and NetGalley. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A fun book that was enjoyable to read! I liked the plot, it was engaging and loved the poodle in the story! I hope there will be more books in the series!

I expected a typical cozy mystery but this was disappointing for me. I didn’t find it to have any of the usual warm characters with entertaining mysteries. Too much romance, not enough intrigue for me.

Once I got past realizing this book is more romance than cozy mystery, I actually enjoyed it. The characters were fun and lively, and the plot was interesting. I did feel at times things jumped around too much and I got confused, especially toward the end of the book. But, overall a fun book. Looking forward to book 2.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Hard fail for me. Love poodles and the dog was the star of the book. Everything else was just trite and pandering to perceived desires of publishers and not necessarily a broad base of readers.

A good fun story but way more of a romance than a cozy mystery. Needs some character development to add some depth to them. But overall a good read if you want a feel good book. Thanks#netgally and #DragonbooksPublishlingHouse for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are mine.

I really wanted to love this book. The cover is cute, the description is interesting, so I thought I had a winner. I was wrong, and this book was disappointing. The story was interesting, but it read as a romance, not a cozy mystery.
I think with some editing and character development, this would make an interesting series.

Per the series title, Rocky Mountain Cozies, I expected Mountain Town Mischief with a Poodle to be a cozy mystery. I kept waiting for the murder of the counterfeiting boyfriend to happen. It didn't. As a reader, I selected this because I was in the mood for a cozy mystery, so my expectations were not met.

After I adjusted my reader expectations, I still didn't love the story. The female protagonist comes across as unlikeable with her yoga-loving, poodle pampering, vegan-living, upper-class lifestyle, which is financially viable due to her inheritance. When things get difficult for the protagonist, she takes off to live with her grandma, who invites her to live (alone and for free) in her palatial cabin in Colorado. However, if readers enjoy pretentious protagonists, this book is for them.

I might have actually enjoyed the book for the fluffy fun it's intended to be, but the constant perspective shifts were jarring. Within the chapter, the head-hopping was dizzying. I lost track of the POV characters, and while their personalities were somewhat distinct, jumping from one character's inner thoughts to another's without any warning made for a laborious read.

I think if this was marketed as a romantic suspense, it would be more likely to pull in readers in the mood for this book.

Jaz comes home early one day to find her boyfriend has been counterfeiting money. When one of the thugs with him pulls a gun on her she makes a run for it and ends up in Colorado with her grandmother. While there she decides to try to start a new life. But the old one does not want to let go.

I would not call this a cozy mystery. More of a Romance with elements of suspense. I did not like the flow of this book. It jumped around between way too many characters. It felt like a soap opera at times. The characters were also very one dimensional and the romance not believable at all.

Through NetGalley, I received a free copy of MOUNTAIN TOWN MISCHIEF WITH A POODLE (Rocky Mountain Cozies Book 1) by Virginia Fox in exchange for an honest review. Jasmine grabs her poodle and runs when she comes home early one day to overhear her leech of a live-in boyfriend discussing his intent to steal all of her money. Luckily, Jasmine's grandmother offered to let Jasmine use her house in Colorado, so to Colorado Jasmine goes. After an incident or two, Jasmine settles in. However, her ex-boyfriend is so irate that Jasmine has thwarted his plans, he bestirs himself to actually do something-track down Jasmine and make her pay. The only objection I have to this book is that, despite her inability to correctly assess her boyfriend's character, Jasmine insta-knows the new people (she automatically knows all of someone's personal proclivities and habits immediately upon acquaintance), which, of course, leads to insta-loving someone she insta-knows. This story is a romance with a danger element and a poodle.

This is the kind of book you read when you're done with life's drama and struggles. After a long day of working, chores, appointments, and kids, I looked forward to settling in for the night and getting lost in this warm and cozy world Fox created. This book just makes you feel GOOD inside and lifts you up.. I may not have the time to take a vacation in the Rocky Mountains, but I can definitely feel like I'm there. with Rambo and Jasmine.

The characters are easy to get to know and the relationships built are fun to read about, not only romance, but family, friends and of course doggie bonding. It's clear to me that this is a the first book in the series, but I cannot wait or book 2 and beyond. I recommend this read to cozy story lovers, a romance fans.

This book was perfect form me as I am a dog lover, and you can tell that the author loves pets too! Yes, there is a dog on the cover but there are lots of other dogs in the book. The small-town atmosphere, characters, and relationships sucked me right in. It’s fun to watch the two main characters (Jasmine & Jake) figure things out. Being that she is a big city girl and he, a small town sharif their values clash a bit. There are some nice relationship teases between other characters too, especially Tyler and Pat. I hope we see more of them in future books, sizzle! I would put this book on the romantic side of Cozy Mysteries. It is mostly clean in terms of sex, and the writing is breezy which fits the story. I highly recommend this book for some romantic escapism. #MountainTownMischiefwithaPoddle

Overall, the book was cute. However, there seemed to be a lot going on and there was a lot of perspective-shifting between people. I understand the author was trying to build anticipation for future books, but a lot of it felt unnecessary. All of the characters also seemed very two-dimensional. There was no depth.

Some criticisms:
-A same-sex relationship is introduced partway through the book. It’s only two or three sentences, then never mentioned again. So why even put it in there? Just for the sake of having one so the author can claim the book is LGBTQ+ friendly? Gimme a break. It was completely unnecessary and added absolutely NOTHING to the story.
-We don’t need to be reminded of Rambo’s breed every other sentence. We KNOW he’s a poodle; it’s in the book title!
-One relationship that DOES need to be fleshed out better is Kathrina and Pat. Who are they to each other? Friends? Related? I thought they were dating! Doesn’t get clarified until page 87! Over 60% through the book. This needs to be clarified up front.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

A good story, although expected more of a cozy mystery. Still though, I liked it enough to see how it turned out. Especially enjoyed Paula's character. Jasmine runs from her ex-boyfriend from Seattle to Colorado, and meets up with the town sheriff. Found the story-line of the ex and the thugs a bit outside, and didn't feel needed as much, but otherwise I liked it. Would recommend.

Now that it's fall, all I want to do is cuddle in my blankets and drink tea. What's perfect for that? A cozy mystery, of course. After reading Fox's book, I could feel myself transported. The reader first meets Jasmine; I really like her as I could relate to her as a vegetarian yogi who moves to a strange place ( for me, it's a Canadian moving to Sweden). In this book, Jasmine runs/moves from Seattle to Independence, Colorado. I love her Grandmother and, of course, all the town's residents. Especially the Disney sisters! Everything was provided in this book, romance, a mystery, and of course, the love of the Rocky Mountains.

With the title and cover, I was expecting this to be a murder mystery cozy. And so I kept waiting for the murder to happen... And then about halfway through I figured out, this was not that kind of cozy book. Once I realized that, this still wasn't my favorite. I found Jasmine (the main character) pretentious and naive. Also, she is 25 and has a big inheritance without much explanation?? I wish there had been more buildup to the tension between her and sheriff Jake. It's like the second time they meet there is already this insane romantic tension between them, which was weird.

This is book one of the Rocky Mountain Cozies mystery series. Jasmine leaves her boyfriend and home after she finds out that he is invilved in illegal activities. She heads to her Grandma's house in a small Colorado town. There she finds new friends, a boyfriend, and start her own business. Good story

Jasmine finds out her boyfriend is not who she thought, and staying with him will only get her in more trouble, so she leaves him and takes her furry BFF with her to Colorado. Once at Grandma’s she finds she doesn’t quite fit in with her granola lifestyle. Between her ex who isn’t ready to give her up and the local sheriff who keeps looking into her past, Jasmine needs to get things settle once and for all.

This is a great start to a new series. A little more romance than I usually go for, but what can I say, I like the characters, the locale and the pets! Blend them all together and it’s a great balanced read for me. I can’t wait for the next book!
