A captivating story that drew me in with the cursed sisters. I was quickly invested with Roxie. Some may say she’s obsessed with the family's curse and must know every facet of what has happened to her loved ones but it was written in such a way that I wanted to know more!
An old family curse, and mystery totally gave me the spooky vibes and I loved every second of this book! The characters are very well rounded. The narrator, Jordan Killam did a phenomenal job portraying a variety of characters. I was able to distinguish their voices. The tones and inflections used were very engaging.
While this is a YA Thriller book it does cover grief and depression and I felt like it was done very well.

A very special thanks to Dreamscape Media and Netgalley for the ALC.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for the AudioARC of After Dark with Roxie Clark.

If your looking for a looking for the perfect October YA spooky read then look no forward. I will be honest and say that I don’t like super scary horror types so this was the perfect blend of who done it and creepy weird spooky. Being that’s it’s YA there’s not too many overly graphic scenes.

I really enjoyed Roxie’s Ghost Tour and Stories the most. The friendship between Roxie and Tristan I loved so much. Roxie’s sister Skylar annoyed me to no end.

The twists and turns had me at the edge of seat. It took me a minute to figure out The Who, What and Why. Even then I got most of it wrong.

Over all it was a very enjoyable read,

Roxie Clark keeps herself busy by leading ghost tours around her town. After all, as a member of a cursed family, who better to do such a job? While the tour business is booming, Roxie's home life isn't so great. Ever since her sister Skylar's boyfriend, Colin, was murdered, Skylar spends her time locked in her room, eating very little, and giving up on her dreams. When Skylar receives a posthumous message from Colin, with Roxie's help, Skylar is determined to solve Colin's murder. While Roxie is happy to have some semblance of her sister back, the closer the girls get to solving the murder, the more tumultuous things become.

I enjoyed this book. In Roxie, Davis creates an interesting and relatable character. And it's hard not to feel for Skylar who had everything she wanted, only to have it ripped away in one night. The story is unique and cool, and I really enjoyed Roxie's tour stories most of all.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publishers for this ALC. Jordan Killam was a great narrator.

Perfect read for Spooky Season🎃👻

I received the audiobook for review from Netgalley and I am so happy I listened to it.

Roxie Clark believes all the women in her family are cursed. To die young or from weird circumstances. When her sister's boyfriend is killed, Roxie doesnt know how to navigate her grief. A year later Roxie and her sister start to unravel the mystery behind his death. Was it a murder or accident?

I really enjoyed this story and seeing the bond between sisters. Not always goof but it was true. Grief is such a hard thing to navigate and I am happy how it was represented in this book as well.

Also I would pay top dollar to go on Roxie's ghost tour!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.

This book was sad at points as Roxy and her sister deal with their grief while investigating a murder. Throughout the book makes the reader feel for both girls and all that they have gone through. The mystery and intrigue in the story coupled with the bit of suspense made the book a great read.

I reviewed the audiobook narration.

Roxie Clark, from the infamous Clark family plagued with death and tragedies, Roxie is no different after finding the body of her sister's boyfriend.

A year after finding Colin's body, Roxie is trying to be there for her sister Skylar, and her best friend, Tristan, who is also Colin's brother. While helping Skylar find Colin's killer and wondering why Tristan does not seem to feel the same way Roxie feels about him, the characters take you along for the ride.

Lots of twists and turns that keep you guessing. A fun, spooky read.

This was a fun YA mystery thriller. The suspense begins at the very beginning of the book and keeps you on your toes all the way until they end. I had a hard time putting it down. Such a great read coming up on Halloween.

This YA thriller makes for a great segue into the spooky season as summer fades into fall. The titular character, though still in high school runs a ghost tour in her Indiana town. And while Roxie explores her "cursed" family's past where so many of the women have met violent ends, she avoids discussing the murder of her sister's boyfriend the year prior. Roxie wants to help draw her sister, Skylar, out of her grief. Her plan doesn't exactly unfold as she had hoped, but the silver lining is that Skylar emerges from her room, and starts an investigation into her boyfriend's death, dragging Roxie into it as well.

The plot takes some surprising turns - with plenty of red herrings to keep you guessing. It's an engaging and fast-paced listen that I thoroughly enjoyed. I really like the ghost tour stories that are included and I think this is just a great read for fall! The teen romance isn't too overbearing and the relationship between the sisters feels authentic. I really had fun listening to it and the performance on audio is really great. I definitely plan on catching up on the author's earlier novel! What a fun listen!

This was a quick listen. I really enjoyed the ghost stories and the tours, that was interesting. This book is the perfect read for fall/spooky season!

One thing I didn't really enjoy was Skylar’s character at times. While I understand why she acts the way she does, I still found her annoying at times. However, I loved Roxie. She was easily likable from the very beginning and her friendship with Tristan was very relatable.

I would consider this a fast-paced book and it kept me hooked the entire time. I loved all the twists, the darkness and creepiness, and the exploration of grief within this book. After Dark with Roxie Clark was an amazing read that I hope everyone enjoys during this season.

Thank you NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for the early listening copy in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Congratulations to Brooke on writing a fun and addicting adventure.

I know that it is young adult, but I related to so many components of this book ... I know the struggles of being a younger sister (and an older one, I am in the middle.) I remember the awkward high school days of romantic and friendship rejections. Though I never got caught up in any murders or robberies, I do know that many serious things take place in all of our adolescent memories that we still carry with us today.

It was also released during spooky season, which fits so well with many of the themes.

This was the perfect start to my spooky season reads! Dark and twisty, this murder mystery definitely kept me guessing until the end. Family curses, ghosts and a mystery- this book is the perfect mix for a cozy fall weekend!

Thanks Netgalley for the ARC!

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!

It’s time for spooky books so I decided to start with this one. I mean, look at this cover!

Right from the start, I was invested in this mystery. Main characters that seem to be plagued with death and an ongoing murder mystery? Come on. I wanted to know what happened that night. And, boy, it got really creepy and twisted towards the end. Things I wanted the book to get into more like Roxie’s tour and the Clark Curse were explored more. I’m content.

Roxie was an amazing FMC. I loved her narration and her dynamic with all the characters, especially with Skylar. I like how they had a somewhat distant relationship and still acted very much like siblings while working together, even growing closer. Even Tristan and Colin were another example of a truly complicated sibling relationship ship. (iykyk)

If I had to be nitpicky, I wish this book was written in first person.

Roxie is the youngest member of the supposedly cursed Clark family, whose women often die young. She has created her own ghost tour in her small Indiana town, talking about how many of these women died. Not included in that tour is the murder of Colin Riley, boyfriend of Roxie’s sister and brother of Roxie’s best friend, a year ago. Roxie wants to help Skylar move on from Coliln’s death, but Skylar is determined to find out who killed him. Looking for the truth, however, may give them truths they don’t want to hear.

I had already pre-ordered this book as soon as I heard about it, but when I saw the audiobook version available for review on NetGalley, I couldn’t pass it up! I loved Brooke’s first book, but this one was even better! It sucked me in, and I couldn’t put it down until I got to the end. This is the perfect time of year to read it, too. I really appreciated the fact that it explored themes of grief and family relationships in addition to the mystery that was the main story. Jordan Killam did an excellent job narrating the audiobook.

Many thanks to NetGalley for providing me an audio ARC of this book.

Thank you to NetGalley, Bloomsbury USA Children's Books, Bloomsbury YA, Dreamscape Media, Brooke Lauren Davis, and Jordan Killam (audio narrator) for the opportunity to read and listen to After Dark With Roxie Clark in exchange for an honest review.

The catchy title and cover certainly drew me in. While this wasn't quite as spooky as I was hoping and expecting, the ghosts and murder mystery are certainly a thrill to read for spooky season.

Roxie's family is supposedly cursed, as the majority of her ancestors have died from extremely tragic deaths. Some of her ancestors are ghosts, the haunts of which she exhibits on her ghost tour, considering she can actually see them and has some way of understanding. The only person she won't exhibit on her tour is the recently deceased Colin Riley, Roxie's sister's boyfriend. After only a year, the death starts to haunt Roxie (no pun intended...or was it?), and Roxie makes it her mission to find out just who killed him.

With ghostly help, Roxie learns more about herself and more about Colin's muder than she ever expected. Too many people involved makes for too many lies. At least Roxie has the help of the dead on her side.

The pacing of this book is quick. I have seen many reviews where people just could not put this one down, and I am one of those. While the story wasn't as creepy or ghost filled as I would have liked (I guess I was expecting a bit more toward the gore side for some reason), it was still a fast, enjoyable read that only lasted about a day before I had to pick a new book.

The audiobook narrator executes the story perfectly, bringing life to Roxie's character and her flavorful ghost tours. The book is an enjoyable listen, a more mellow book if you want something festive, yet fast, for an October read.

This book was A LOT!!! In the best way possible though! The Clark family curse has been around forever it seems like but, is it really a curse is what you end up asking yourself throughout the book. Roxie and her sister Skylar live with their grandma after their mom disappears and never returns. In the book you learn she is killed in a car crash but that is not the main part of the story. Bad things happen to the Clarks at every turn and the Clark sisters don't exactly get along let alone talk very much. The death of Skylar's boyfriend Colin turns her into more a recluse and changes her so hard. A long mystery hunt brings the sisters together to figure out what exactly happened to Colin at his untimely demise and boy does this entire story take you for a wild ride!!!! I can't tell you how many times I was having to cover my mouth to muffle my yelling at this book. 10 out of 10! Perfect spooky mystery read for spooky season!!!

This must be the year of the great YA mystery/thriller! After Dark With Roxie Clark is yet another win, mostly thanks to Roxie herself. This follows Roxie, a teenage paranormal enthusiast and ghost tour giver, as she deals with her own real life mystery. Her sister’s boyfriend/best friend’s was murdered a year ago, and how her sister is determined to find the killer and bring him to justice. The problem is she believes it was Tristan, Roxie’s best friend and crush.

First of all, the mystery was great. It was twisty and often sad, but ultimately satisfying. The atmosphere is perfect, filled with small town spooky vibes. But the best part is these characters. Roxie is funny, clever and fully herself. She is proud of her family’s “cursed” heritage and loves all things spooky. She’s hard not love, even in her most over the top moments. She lives with her sister and grandmother, a dynamic that is at once heartbreaking and sweet. Tristan is also a great, layered character that you love, despite the characters’ suspicions. And Roxie’s sister has the best journey of the story, as she is grieving and angry and trying to heal. I feel like a lot of mystery/thrillers I read don’t put this much heart into their characters, so this really stood out.

Overall, this was good mystery with great characters. It is best read in October, so grab it as soon as it comes out! Can’t wait for young readers to get their hands on this.

It is a great Halloween book. Do you like ghost tours, mystery and murder?? It had it all and the twists and turns were great. I was super happy about the romance and ending. This was a new author to me and she did a great job. Thanks Dreamscape Media via Netgalley for this gem.

Audiobook Review

After Dark with Roxie Clark
By Brooke Lauren Davis
Pub date: October 4, 2022
Narrated by: Jordan Killam
Duration: 9H 34M

As a part of the cursed Clark family, Roxie decides to embrace her fears and run a ghost tour featuring the cursed deaths of past Clark women. Unlike her sister, Skylar, who is in the depth of depression after losing her boyfriend, Collin, to a violent murder almost a year ago. Travis, Collin’s brother, is Roxie’s next-door neighbor, bestie, and love interest until Skylar shares a suspicion with her.

As the girls investigate, secrets are kept and the deceit is heavy! I kept talking to my audiobook, girl, I think you better look at some suspicious behavior going on elsewhere but alas, nobody was listening – as usual!

The thing about this story is the overwhelming grief that is palpable by the MC’s and the belief that generational trauma is often a curse. There’s a lot to be said of the character of Roxie, she makes her own way, dresses the way she likes and her makeup is unique and on pointe! She doesn’t care what others think and I admire this in any character but especially in teen characters that the younger generation can model.

The plot twist is one of the twistiest and it came out of nowhere! So shocking and such a gut punch! But, also, it ties together beautifully and I love when this happens!

Narration: Jordan Killam does a phenomenal job and she guided this murder mystery beautifully. Well done, Jordan!

My thank to the folks over at @Dreamscape_Media for this gifted ALC!

Thank you to NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for sending me an early copy of this audiobook! All opinions are my own!

If you're looking for a good spooky season read, this is definitely going to scratch that itch! I really needed a good spooky story with mystery, and this definitely delivered!

I think my favorite thing about the book was the characters. Roxie is so likable and so easy to root for from the very beginning. But her sister's story and her friendship with Tristan were so relatable and emotional that they really hooked me and gave the book much higher stakes. Their stories added such an extra layer to the whole thing and really gave it a depth I hadn't expected. The stories of the Clark family did much the same thing, giving the book both its creepy feel but also more depth and humanity to it.

I really enjoyed the plot twists and distinctly remember my eyes widening - literally - at one point. It faked me out at first, and I remember thinking that there was no way that could be the explanation because it was too simple. And I was right, thankfully.

The atmosphere of the book was so perfectly aligned with Roxie's huge, vivacious personality, and I enjoyed every second of that. If you need a book for Halloween season, don't miss out on this one!
