After Dark with Roxie Clark was a YA Thriller that outperforms many others that I have read in 2022. First of all, as a non-YA reader, the book felt more mature than many do, lacking much of the irrational angst so many authors put into their novels. In fact, I was so engrossed in the story that I tore through the audiobook in one day.

Roxie Clark is a high school senior who runs her own business as a ghost tour operator visiting spots where her own ancestors have died. Hart is from a line of Clark's that are supposedly cursed. Roxie and her sister live with their grandmother, a lucky Clark who has lived a longer life than most Clark women make it to. The sisters' mother did not escape the curse and died some time before the novel begins.

Currently, though, the most recent mysterious death wasn't a Clark. It was the boyfriend of Roxie's older sister, Skylar. Skylar is still in a really bad psychological state over the brutal death of Colin. Colin's brother, Tristan, is Roxie's best friend and sometimes protector when she gets into mischief. These three characters, Skylar, Tristan, and Roxie are the main characters. Something happens fairly early on in the book that pulls Skylar out of her funk, but into a mission to solve Colin's murder no matter who gets hurt on her hunt. Can Roxie work with Skylar to solve the mystery even when Skylar seems so obsessed as to be rendered irrational?

Its a fun book that any fan of YA Thrillers should enjoy. Its a good mystery with a decent, mostly satisfying resolution. I will be recommending this book to all my friends who have enjoyed Karen McManus books as After Dark with Roxie Clark has a similar feel.

If you enjoyed A Good Girls Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, you'd love this story.
This YA mystery had all the pieces needed for a great mystery that you can't guess who the killer is. Roxy, the main character, was so interesting because she was so different from the other kids in town, and I honestly thought she was so much fun to follow. I would love to read Davis's other works because this was a fast-paced story I needed for the upcoming Halloween season. Thanks, Net Galley, for the advanced audiobook.

Roxie is impulsive, blunt, and has lots of family drama. She's a fun and relatable main character and has actual hobbies. Her confusion over her feelings and trying to respect her friend's wish to stay just friends is fantastic. I love the water trick and the whole tour B side plot. Both romances are ok but weak—no spice either very pg.

I have mixed feelings about Tristen. He's very inconstant. I like a lot of the side characters and there are so many twists in the story. Many are predictable.<spoiler>Jackson deserves better. I wouldn't want to put a popular jerk's name on my work who didn't put any work into a project. Who cut off volunteer hours and didn't even show up completely some days. Why should he pass senior year? Jackson didn't force him to rob anyone, and he didn't kill him. He tells Tristen/Roxie the truth and tries to follow Colin's last wish, even if it is for the wrong reasons. </spoiler>The ending is super cute. Great for Halloween vibes with no scare.

I FLEW through this. Like I started it and immediately put it at 2.5x speed then basically tried to consume it as quickly as humanely possible because it is good. Like really good. It's a small town spooky mystery where two sisters try and figure out the murder of one sisters boyfriend all while trying to navigate this seemingly deadly curse on their family.

So the two sisters are complete opposites, one is straight A's and pastel sweaters and was going to Yale. Then there's Roxie who dresses all in black, with the occasional pop of blood read, wears dark makeup, is obsessed with all this horror, and runs a spooky tour after dark for their town.

Told with interspersed tales of folklore and old murder mysteries, this one kept me engaged and interested all the way through and the twist is TWISTY. I didn't see it coming and that's the best part.

This comes out in October and will make a great addition to anyone's spooky line up.

My one critique is that there is bound to be a queer person in a small town, hell Roxie gave big bisexual vibes, but alas, everyone is cishet and that's sad.

Book Title: After Dark with Rosie Clark
Author: Brooke Lauren Davis
Audiobook Narrator: Jordan Killam
Publisher: Dreamscape Media
Genre: Mystery/Thriller, Teen/YA
Pub Date: October 4, 2022
My Rating: 3.5 ~ Rounded up

I love this title! Roxie Clark gives ghost tours in her small town by driving a black bus that has n on it " After Dark with Roxie Clark" written on the side of it.
It is said that the Clark women are cursed so Roxie takes advantage of this and at each stop tells a story about one of the females in her family.

The tour doesn’t include the story of a more recent murder ~ Colin Riley, her sister Skylar’s boyfriend was found dead in a cornfield.
Skylar is a total mess after Colin’s death. She doesn’t trust anyone and even turns down her life’s long dream of attending Yale.
Skylar and Roxie are actually the opposite but bond together to find out the truth ~ who killed Colin ~in their research they uncover many secrets.

I love fall and am totally ready for this 90 degree heat to move on.
I am ready for fall decorations and a pumpkin spice late ~ so yes I enjoyed this.

Story starts off a little a bit slow but it kept me curious plus I love Roxie!

Want to thank NetGalley and Dreamscape Media for this early eGalley.
Publishing Release Date scheduled for October 4, 2022.

I was so happy I decided to try this book out. I didn’t know what to expect going into it but the story gripped me from the start. I think the narrator did a great job at creating a creepy atmosphere and kept me on my toes. I’m also surprised I didn’t guess the twist, and I thought the story wrapped up so well. I will definitely look out for something else published by this author!

This was a fun book - perfect vibes for October/Halloween season. I wish I had waited to read it until I could curl up with a cozy blanket and a big pumpkin spice latte. Think A Good Girl's Guide to Murder but with a ghost tour instead of a podcast. My biggest complaint with this book was that it felt too short. I would have loved more backstory about the different ghosts on the tour. I didn't want to say goodbye to these characters. The story was compelling and kept me reading. Definitely put this on your list for October!

Thank you NetGalley and Bloomsbury YA for this ARC!

Roxie Clark has taken her family’s claim to fame, a supposed curse and turned it into a money making venture, leading people on ghost tours guaranteed to shock and scare.Yes, it’s true that many of her family members, past and present, have met untimely ends, but Roxie takes it all in stride. The only thing that really scares Roxie is the gruesome murder of her sister’s boyfriend, still unsolved a year later. Skyler has become obsessed with finding her lover’s killer and Roxie isn’t going to let her sister hunt a murderer on her own. What the sisters uncover makes Roxie’s scariest ghost stories pale in comparison. This is a fun, creepy but not gory story that will delight YA audiences
