I had the distinct pleasure of interviewing illustrator, designer, and author Timothy Goodman about his graphic memoir "I Always Think It's Forever" for the Storytime in Paris podcast on the Paris Underground Radio podcast network, which features interviews with authors who have a French connection.

Here is what I said:
Ep 49. Timothy Goodman, “I Always Think It's Forever: A Love Story Set in Paris as Told by an Unreliable but Earnest Narrator”

For our second Valentine’s Day episode, we have a very special guest! Timothy Goodman is an internationally-recognized, award-winning designer, illustrator, muralist and author. I’m certain you've seen hisunique artwork gracing everything from New York City walls to Uniqlo clothing to Nike sneakers to New Yorker covers, and everything in between, for some of the world's most popular brands. He teaches at SVA, authored the Sharpie Art Workshop and has co-created several social experiments.

In addition to all of that, Timothy has just released a graphic memoir titled "I Always Think It's Forever: A Love Story Set in Paris as Told by an Unreliable but Earnest Narrator,” Timothy uses this memoir, which features a blend of graphic artwork, written passages, and journal entries, to reflect on his own life, his self-described toxic masculinity, and his views on love, loving, and being loved.

I Always Think It's Forever is a gorgeous visual love story detailing a love affair in Paris. I would highly recommend this to all readers, especially those, like me, who haven't read many graphic memoirs or novels. A super enjoyable experience and especially perfect around Valentine's Day!

Thank to Netgalley and Simon Element for the ARC - I Always Think It's Forever is out now!

Thank you so much Simon Element for the copy of this book! I was excited to check this out as soon as I heard about it, but it's even better than I expected. I really like the different styles running throughout-- the diary entries mixed with reflections and art. It's so different from anything other memoir style book I've read and I enjoyed the changed. It's a quick read, but it's so easy to get lost in the drawings. There are so many fantastic lines in here as well!

I absolutely loved this graphic memoir! I loved that Timothy focused on a specific year of his life. There were moments that made me laugh out loud and a few that made me feel so sad for Timothy. I found myself bookmarking so many pages of this book.

This book is a meditation on love and heartbreak. Goodman meets a woman in Paris and has a whirlwind romance with her. He documents the early stages of love - when everything is perfect and the person is the most interesting person in the world. You imagine your future together, marriage, children, growing old. You can't imagine ever not being with this person! When things end, not only is his heart broken, but he openly talks about all those dreams dying, and those feelings of insecurity and fear that you will never find love again.
