*3.5 stars*

I read a lot of Anna Bradley, and The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount was another good addition to The Swooning Virgins Society series.

This book ticked a lot of my boxes: Large Scottish MC with rough hands and tumultuous childhood? check! Virgin, feisty red-head Scottish female MC who can fend for herself? check! Overall, the vibe worked for me, and Anna Bradley's writing style is always lovely and entertaining.

Where I ran into a little bit of trouble was that I found the trajectory of the book to be very predicable. I'm not one who really knows where a mystery or adventure story is headed (mysteries are not my thing), but I knew this plot from WAY ahead. It took a little of the wind out of my sails, if I'm being totally honest. I also think that the pacing was a little on the slow side, so this story took me about a week to finish.

Overall, I don't think this is the best in the series, but it was a solid entry, nevertheless.

I love this series by Anna Bradley and I'm so happy we finally get to have Daniel's story. If you haven't read any of these books, I recommend picking up at the beginning. Could you read this one without having read the others? Yes but you'll miss the references for all the other characters that have come before this book so I don't recommend.

If you're looking for a historical romance that will keep you turning the pages, definitely pick this one up (the series) as Bradley creates some great characters and writes wonderfully.

Daniel Brixton, the jack of all trades of the The Clifford Charity School for Wayward Girls, is a man of many underground talents and he uses that talent to help the women of the Swooning Virgins Society of the school. He gets unexpectedly knocked out of his set ways when ambushed by Mairi Cameron on another such job. An independent and self-sufficient woman, she is quite ferocious and is totally able to take care of herself.

But when she keeps insisting that she is his childhood friend and that he needs to come with her to Scotland to help acquit her grandmother from a murder charge - his murder - he doesn't believe her as he doesn't remember any of the things she is talking about. These intriguing events put these headstrong and self-sufficient people together in unusual circumstances and also takes them to a small town in historical Scotland.

What starts as a common boy meets girl romance morphs into something intriguing when the details behind Mairi's grandmother's case are revealed and Daniel's background is revealed little by little. The author Anna Bradley is a master of story telling and she proves that again in this book with the way she manages to marry the romance and mystery elements of the story seamlessly. The pacing is exactly on point and it was quite exciting to read about historic Scotland in this context as well

This is one another must read Anna Bradley book and I can't recommend this book enough for lovers of romantic suspense.

Very fun, fluffy rom-com, very steamy, there's lots of chemistry and a fun plot to go alongside it. There's found family vibes and thee overall tone is really hopeful and light, a quick, fun read and I wasn't confused (the rest of the series are companion novels from what I can tell), strong reccomend!

I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

I have always loved Anna Bradley's book, and besides my all-time favorite by her, this series has been one of my favorites. She combines mystery and romance so flawlessly that neither suffers because of the inclusion of the other.

Daniel Brixton, dark and broody, doesn't remember much about his past. So, when Mairi Cameron demands that he come back to Coldstream to help prove her grandmother's innocence he is bewildered. He doesn't know Mairi Cameron, her grandmother, or Coldstream. He doesn't trust her, but he is persuaded to accompany her home to find out the truth. The journey has more unexpected twists and turns for Daniel Brixton, and none that he is completely ready for.

I still believe that this series gets better and better since book three. Anna Bradley is truly a romantic at heart, and the way that her characters showcase their care and love of the other is just perfect. If I ever wanted to bring a romance hero to life, it would easily be one of Anna Bradley's. Daniel may be hard, tough, and stubborn but he protects the girls of the Clifford Charity School and then Mairi. Mairi was fiery and passionate, full of love for her grandma. As someone who is so close to my own grandmother, this really endeared her to me. She would do anything to save the woman she loved the most in the world, and so would I. I would really love to see more of this in books to be honest.

Overall, another great installment in the series. I don't know if Anna has plans to write Amanda's story, but I hope she does. I would love for the school's fearless leader to get her happily ever after. I highly recommend this series if you love romance and mystery that is perfectly blended together for an engaging story taking you on an adventure from the first page.

I was so excited to get my hands on this book, as I read the rest of the series earlier this year. I had NO idea Daniel was getting his own story, so it was a very cool surprise.
Daniel was a staple secondary character all throughout the first four books, but not the sort that jumps out at you as “sequel bait.” He was a gruff and grumpy jack-of-all-trades working for Lady Clifford at the Clifford Charity School for Wayward Girls and would very clearly do ANYTHING for any of the heroines in the previous books, but in that older-brother-slash-protector sort of way. (To be honest, I sort of head-cannoned him and Lady Clifford having a secret May-December thing. Sue me.)
Anyway.
I am going to go right ahead and address the Elephant in the Room: What the HECK is with this book’s title? Like, Daniel is clearly not a viscount in the previous four books. He is not a viscount at the beginning of this one. It was hard to read “The Virgin who Captured a Viscount” without the title floating around in my head the whole time. Either Daniel is a viscount somehow, becomes a viscount somehow, or the title is about some random viscount who isn’t the hero but gets captured by Mairi (or some other random possibly-a-virgin-character, because not all the heroines in the previous books were even virgins anyway, and the previous titles were all a reference to their book reading club which Mairi was definitely not a part of), OR. Maybe! The virgin in question is *gasp* Daniel and he has to capture some blackguard viscount because reasons?! It reminded me of This Earl of Mine by Kate Bateman, where the hero is the second son of an earl and not actually an earl himself, so you’ve got that in the back of your head the whole time you’re reading it. Bah.

But yeah, moving on.

The book starts out with a great prologue that would have drawn me in if I wasn’t already super excited to read it. The first several chapters were fast-paced and exciting, which reminded me why I liked the first book in the series so much.

In the end though, it was a bit of a disappointment for me because it felt disengaged with the rest of the series. On one hand, Daniel from books 1-4 getting his own story was obviously super cool. On the other hand, apart from the obligatory cameos at the beginning, it was so stand-alone that it could have been about a different person. By the end of the book, I wasn’t even convinced that Daniel would even ever see Lady Clifford, the Clifford School, or any of his “girls” again which made me sad.

Thank you for the ARC from Kensington Books. . Great story I enjoyed reading. I recommend for those who like to just get away with a book.

I just reviewed The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount by Anna Bradley. #TheVirginWhoCapturedaViscount #NetGalley

Enjoyed this regency romance with a heroine who knows what she wants. Which is rare to see that in books set during this time period.

Thanks to NetGalley, Kensington Press, and Lyrical Books for the eARC.

This is the first book I've read in this series, but I didn't feel lost by starting with the fifth book.

I really enjoyed the story of Daniel and Mairi and their history in Scotland before being torn apart as children, only to find each other again under dire circumstances. However, this book was NOT at all what I expected. It says it's a Swooning Virgins Society book, and the blurb talks about the women in The Clifford Charity School for Wayward Girls. However, these women and the school are peripheral in this book. This is more of a spin-off than in the main series itself. In fact, most of the story doesn't even occur in London but rather a small town in Scotland.

The characters, plot, mystery, and ending were all enjoyable. It's a cozy romance with a brooding, savage MMC with a gooey center and a fierce, 'wee' FMC.

While I've so far enjoyed the Swooning Virgins Society series, I found The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount interminably slow. Since I listened to the previous books in series but read the ebook version of this one, there's every chance the change of medium simply threw me for a loop; still, I can't ignore the glacially slow first act, or the long peripatetic portion of Act II that needlessly stretched the rising action.

Three sentence summary: When tenacious young Scotswoman Mhairi shows up in London to drag Daniel Brixton home -- to prove her grandmother did not, in fact, murder him, and thus save the woman from the noose -- the menacing bruiser is convinced she's lying. He has no memories of her, or Coldstream, or the life he supposedly lived there before the age of 8, but he agrees to accompany her anyway, if only to prove she's got the wrong man. Trouble is, the closer they get to Coldstream, the more Daniel starts to remember -- and the more obvious it becomes that Mhairi is a woman he won't be able to forget.

Memory loss/recovery is one of my least favorite tropes, and it's everywhere in this book. The big twist is revealed in the title, too, which was a bit of a drag.

Overall, not my favorite in this series, despite a truly likable central couple. Probably would have been significantly better on audio.

I just loved this series and am sorry to see it end. This tied up the Clifford School loose ends with Daniel Brixton's story. It captured my heart and kept me rooting for both Daniel and Mairi. Daniel sees himself as a brute that protects those who can't protect themselves. He doesn't see himself as being loveable. He thinks he's alone in the world except for the Countess Clifford, his employer-partner-friend, and the adopted girls, are now all married ladies. Mairi Cameron has come to London hunting for Daniel, her childhood friend. Her beloved grandmother Lillias is accused of murdering him when he was a child and she needs to prove he's alive.

Daniel has no memory of his first eight years in Scotland's borders in Cotswold. It was always just he and his Dad moving from town to town until his dad died and Daniel eventually came upon the Countess Clifford. Now that the girls are all married and he no longer has to watch over them, he roams the stews of London looking to protect those who need it. One night he meets Mairi Cameron who first knocks him out and later that night saves his life. Given Daniel is a mountain of a man that was quite a feat. Turns out she's taken out Angel Nash who's been trailing Daniel for days. Daniel takes her home to get answers. Turns out she wants him to go back to Scotland and prove he's not dead so her grandmother will be released from prison. Their journey there proves to be quite an adventure of him slowly remembering his past and together they solve the mystery of who killed Hamish Deacon and why it was so important to spirit Daniel away from all he knew.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount is Mairi and Daniel's adventure, and it is absolutely just that, an adventure. Mairi might come in a small package, but she as the heart and fight of a giant. Daniel doesn't fit the physical mold of his station, he is large while Mairi is tiny. They complement each other beautifully! I also have to admit I adore a forced proximity setting. I really enjoyed this book.

The Virgin who Captured a Viscount is a lovely story of Mairi the granddaughter of a woman who is now being charged with murdering a man, Daniel Adair, 24 years ago. Mairi knows her grandmother is innocent because Daniel is stil alive and living in London. The story unfolds when Mairi travels to London to locate Daniel to convince him to return to their hometown to convince the courts of her grandmother's innocence. Daniel is unwilling to travel with her because he has no memories of Mairi, her grandmother or his life at that time. The author weaves a very romantic tale with lots of intrigue and adventure. It was a slow burn but once the fire was started it was hot.

I received the story as an ARC from Netgalley and I am voluntarily leaving this review

I adored Mairi and Daniel's story! We've seen Daniel throughout the series and I was so excited that he was going to get his HEA. Bradley did NOT disappoint!!

I am posting an honest review after reading an advance reader copy of this story.

What an enjoyable read. The characters were likeable and had an interesting plot. We've seen a lost lord story before but this guy, Daniel, was a bruiser of a bodyguard type who thought he was English but was waaayyy bigger than a puny London guy. He also broke out into a Scottish brogue when he was mad or being sweet. Mairi was, of course, a force to be reckoned with, pure Scottish stubborn. She's loyal, kind most of the time, and can fight like a soldier of fortune, very smart & cany. To me the love story was secondary to the adventure...but they were nicely intertwined. I'm a sucker for the underdog and Daniel is that and more.

I've followed Ms Bradley since I discovered her first book when I was wandering around Barnes & Nobel. I liked the cover & liked the story even more.

I received an advanced reader's copy of The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount by Anna Bradley.

I was pulled into the story from the first page. Daniel Brixton has a complicated past and it was interesting when it was all revealed. Mairi Cameron is a strong character who does what's necessary to have her grandmother absolved of murder. Daniel is closed off emotionally and we get to him open up through his interactions with Mairi.

The mystery of who was behind the murder was well done with a credible red herring and how it was tied to Daniel's past. I've really enjoyed reading The Swooning Virgins Society series.

FANTASTIC!!! The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount by Anna Bradley is book 5 in The Swooning Virgins Society series and though in a series this book can be read as a standalone. What I just loved about this book was the mystery as well as the romance. The banter in the beginning is great and I just love that Mairi was small but mighty. I fond this book so very well written, wonderful characters, a bit sad at times, vivd descriptions, had the real feel of the regency era, the romance between Daniel and Mairi just sizzled and it was very easy to read. A true delight. This story has a young girl of 6 in love, a man that does not recognize her, death, murder, needing to free her grandmother, causing injury more than once, saving one’s life, needing to prove he is alive, being accused of theft, making the journey back to Scotland, not remembering his past, being called a lair on more than one occasion, jealously, a tavern fight, wanting to believe he is still the boy she remembers, disappointment and falling in love. I am so very highly recommending you read this book. As I said… It is FANTASTIC!!!

***This book was gifted to me and I am voluntarily reviewing.

Wow, what a story. I have only read two books of this series and this was the best. I'll be going back to read the first books as soon as possible. Daniel is a very large, strong man, who has been protecting the Ladies of Clifford School and Lady Clifford for a long time. He has dreams, nightmares he doesn't understand and has for a long time. Daniel is a quiet, loner who gets the job done but doesn't like any part of society and the Ladies trying to make him. He has no use for the peers or title ton.
Mairi, and Daniel grew up together in Scotland with another boy. Mairi's Grandmother was there for all the lost boys, some with mother's others were homeless. She is the healer of the village and did the best she could for them. Mairi had a crush on Daniel, puppy love then he was gone. No word of goodby
nothing, just gone and her Grandmother told her not to talk about him anymore.
Twenty-four years later Mairi has to find Daniel as he is the only one who can help save her Grandmother. Only problem is Daniel doesn't remember her, trust her or for sure want to go all the way to Scotland where he is sure he has never been. Mairi has a lot of work to do if she is to save her Grandmother. A lot more them even she knows.
If you like mystery, Intrigue, suspense, secrets along with friends to lovers or second changes this is the book for you. There is so much that has been hidden or sweep under the carpet that these two will uncover. There are those that will go to any length to keep those old secrets too putting both Mairi and Daniel in great danger. I know I will be re-reading this book, plus the others.
Be prepared once you start reading you will not be able to stop ! One of the best books I've read this year. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it. This is a steamy story for those who like to know.

I have read and loved quite a few of Anna Bradley’s books in the past and I did like this one. However it has issues for me that made me, not dislike it, but a little bit bored. I loved the characters, the story was ok and the love story was beautiful when it starts growing. The problem is that the pace is a bit slow and unbalanced, the first half of the book was a bit tiresome to read, but the rest picked up and started to go at a more acceptable pace. The love story is almost inexistent until that second half although the tropes were set from the start: friends to enemies to lovers, There was only one bed, childhood friends, forced proximity. There was nothing unlovable in the story, it was just what I said, the pace. Sometimes it was a bit of a struggle to keep reading and that has never happened to me before, not with Anna Bradley. There was no excitement or eagerness for me to go on reading but then the second half was good, very good, but not enough to make me forget about the rest of it. Also even though I loved them separately as characters I felt no chemistry between Daniel and Mairi, and they are the story… I mean, there are a few little scenes with other characters but the book is mostly them alone, and to me their friendship worked very well, them as a couple, not so much.
