This is book 5 of The Swooning Virgins Society but I read it as a stand alone and didn't feel like had missed a thing. In fact I will probably add the other 4 to my TBR pile.

I really enjoyed this story. The pace was great and kept me reading until the last page. It's an added plus that it reads like a murder mystery. The characters are super likable.

Definitely on my recommendations list.

The Muscle has Met his Match! I loved Daniel in the previous books of the Swooning Virgins Society and am so happy he got his own story and what a story it is. I love the direction Anna took in this series. A bit gothic with big mysteries and dark and gritty scenes. Daniel has always been the staid, you know, the muscle when needed. Anna does not let him get all gushy in this story. The tension between Mairi and Daniel is so palpable it jumps off the page right into your face. It is a story I could not put down – I had to know what happened next. You know, just one more chapter. While Anna does write the nicer stories of the Regency period (and I have loved each and every one of them), this subgenre is totally my style. Keep writing these types of books Anna.

I have read all of the books in this series and so I have seen Daniel Brixton in action and I have always loved his character. He has been protecting the heroines of this series and has looked out for them. I was super excited knowing Daniel would get his own happily ever after and well deserved as well.

Overall, I didn’t enjoy this book as much as the others in this series. I’m so happy for Daniel. I enjoyed Mairi as an equal match for him. However, I wasn’t as invested in the romance as I hoped. Also, the pace was the problem for me. It was super slow for me so I had a little bit of a hard time getting through this book. Also the ending had a great reveal but also felt a little anticlimactic. The epilogue was very sweet seeing how and where Daniel ended up. I will always be happy Daniel has found his love and has a great life but overall, this book was just okay for me.

I truly love how Anna Bradley writes!
The story is an addition to the Swooning Virgins society. This was the first book I read in the series and can be read alone, but I will be purchasing the additional books as it was EXCELLENT! The story details how the heroine Mairi goes to London to find her childhood friend to save her grandmother from being hanged for a murder she did not complete. The hero Daniel is rough and skilled protector who has no memory of his childhood with the heroine in Scotland, Mairi is fierce, loyal and I loved her. I loved both of them together and the journey they took to unwind the mystery of Daniels childhood was a roller coaster ride. I do feel that the romance happened quickly with no build up. They literally just jumped into it, but it was sweet and heartfelt once things happened. Overall a great book !

Ne Obliviscaris. Do not forget

There are times when I do the occasional read of a historical romance. Rarely do they keep my hooked or atleast interested. The Virgin who capture a Viscount managed to do so.

Starting off with the characters, I really liked Mairi. She was fiery, out spoken but soft at the same time. She had a great journey in the book. The author did great justice to her. Daniel is the brooding Scottish who could be a brute at times. Although I didn't personally like him, his interactions with the FMC were fun to read.

The whole plot centred around Mairi's grandmother who is accused of murdering Daniel when in fact he is alive. So thus begins Mairi's journey to prove her grandmother innocent. Though you can guess the ultimate end, the manner in which the plot unfolded is truly commendable.

The romance may have felt a bit hushed but overall the whodunnit was intriguing and enjoyable, so I give the book 4 stars.

Never allow anyone to make you ashamed of who you are.

He was a guardian and a protector. Little did he know, he was guarded and protected by people lost in his past. She brought him to face his past and find himself and together they found peace and their HEA. This is a very enjoyable read with the heroine being very adept at taking care of herself. He is a gentle giant, all brusque on the outside but quite the softie on the inside. I enjoy this series as well.

I received an ARC of this book and leaving my review voluntarily.

Oh! My Goodness! If you hitch your horse to this wagon, you are in for a wild and wonderful ride! I’ve read and loved all of the books in this series, but this is the best one yet. We’ve seen Daniel in the background of all of the books of the series – taking care of the ladies, protecting them, but always subservient, quiet, and unobtrusive. Somehow though, you just KNEW there was more to him than meets the eye. You knew he had a story – and now we finally know that it is a hum-dinger!

Mairi Cameron has to find Daniel Adair and convince him to return to Coldstream within the Scottish borders because it is the only way to save her grandmother’s life. She’s followed his trail and learned that Daniel Adair is now Daniel Brixton. She and Daniel were friends when they were small children – she adored him then – but he and his father took off and she hadn’t heard anything from him since. Now though, her grandmother has been accused of Daniel’s murder after the village found the body of a small boy in a pond on the local Viscount’s property. Twenty-four years ago, when Daniel disappeared, he loved her grandmother as much as Mairi did, so he’ll surely return to save her grandmother – since he isn’t dead.

Mairi tracks Daniel for several days and finds him in the worst slums of London. It seems that the sweet, loving Daniel Adair she remembers has grown into the slimiest of creatures who calls himself Daniel Brixton. He is part of that criminal element that populates the underbelly of London – or is he? Well, he certainly must be – just look where she found him. Then, of all things, she had to save his life from one of those thugs bent on knifing him. He certainly owes her now! Except, he doesn’t see it that way – and he has no idea who she is and he’s quite positive he’s not Scottish. Oh! My!

Against his better judgment, Daniel takes Mairi back to Clifford School so Lady Clifford could help him decide what to do with her. He certainly couldn’t leave her in that hovel in which he found her, but he also had no intention of going to Scotland with her. Of all things – she thought he was Scottish. Ha!

Daniel and Mairi are delightful characters and I enjoyed watching them sizing each other up and coming to a truce. After Daniel and Mairi head out for Coldstream, Scotland, the fireworks really begin – between them – but also with the whole fantastical tale Mairi tells Daniel. Can it all be true? Then – the additional revelations that come to both of them will rock their worlds to the core.

I highly recommend this book and hope you will love Daniel and Mairi as much as I did. I loved that the villains actually got their just punishment – and – of course – one of my favorite things – there was a lovely epilogue. Yep! A truly lovely read.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy (ARC) of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Finally, Daniel's story! This is book 5 in the series, The Swooning Virgin Society. It can be read as a stand alone. The series centers around Lady Clifford and her school. But Daniel has been a character in all 4 previous books. He is Lady Clifford's partner, bodyguard to the girls and go to guy.
This story opens with Daniel knowing he is being followed. In confronting his stalker, he comes face to face with a wee petite girl, who proceeds to knock him out. When he comes to, he is hog tied and is told the most outrageous story about his past.
Mairi cannot believe Daniel doesn't remember her or anything about the first 8 years of his life. She needs to save her grandmother and he's the only one who can do it. She needs to convince him to come back to Scotland with her.
Daniel doesn't know if her story is true, even if it's plausible or just plain made up lies. But he decides to go with her to Scotland.
The adventure, the mystery of what happened years ago and the chemistry between them keeps you riveted to this book. I couldn't put it down.
I've been waiting for Daniel's story and it did not disappoint.

The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount by Anna Bradley is a new book out in the series called the Swooning Virgin Society. The books do not need to be read in order and can be read as stand alones. In this case, I read this as a stand alone. I didn’t feel I needed more information or prior novels to understand the plot.

The story opens up with Mairi Cameron tracking down Daniel Brixton with a wild story, needing him to come to Scotland to help stop her grandmother from being hung as a murderer. Daniel thinks the entire story is nothing but an odd and whacky plot to get him to Scotland. He has no memory of living in Scotland and no memory of Mairi and her grandmother. Mairi is able to convince him to at least come to Scotland and help her.

He thoroughly believes that she is lying and he cannot wait to expose her. Only once in the small town, different memories begin to escape and he is slowly drawn into finding the truth. While the title did not seem to fit the book until the last chapters, the book was quite interesting and kept me reading until the very end!

The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount by Anna Bradley was a good read.

I thoroughly enjoyed this latest pilgrimage into "The Swooning Virgins Society". Ms. Bradley writes about such strong, brave women and strong, protective men who have plenty of wonderful banter. Daniel has definitely met his match in Mairi a petite, red-headed fire-ball of a woman who determinedly drags him up to Scotland to help save her grandmother from hanging. Although the "mystery" is predictable, the journey is great fun!

I received an ARC from Kensington Books and NetGalley in exchange for my honest opinion, thank you!

I am so happy this series isn't over, after the finality of the last book, I thought for sure the series was finished. But Bradley clearly has more story to tell. This books gives us insight and history into Daniel Braxton, Lady Clifford's bodyguard and right hand man.

Daniel Braxton doesn't remember the first 8 years of his life or the town he was born in. When Maira shows up and knocks him out, she begs for his help in clearing her grandmother's name and asks him to return to her small village across the scottish border where they were both born and spent their early childhood together.

I loved the transformation that Daniel goes through in this book and how virginal Maira woos him. He's supposed to be the one with more experience yet her gentleness and love are what softens him. He's the one who changes and finds himself through her. It was a really beautiful love story. The mystery was secondary to the love story IMO. I love this series and hope we get Lady Clifford's next!

I received an ARC from the publisher via NetGalley and am voluntarily posting a review. All opinions are my own.

The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount is the fifth book in Anna Bradley’s Swooning Virgins Society series. It can be read as a stand-alone. This book, like the previous installments in the series, leans very mystery-heavy, and whether that works for you in a romance will depend on your preferences.

I personally liked the mystery element, much more than the romance, which I feel fell by the wayside, and the balance between the two has grown increasingly unbalanced as the series has gone. Here, the intrigue of what happened to Daniel and why Mairi’s grandmother facilitated his disappearance years ago, even if it meant being accused of murder, is the most best part. It was cool to see an initially reluctant and world-hardened Daniel begin to dig into his past to find answers.

But I wasn’t convinced by Daniel and Mairi as a couple. She was apparently in love with him for years, but I didn’t really feel that. And he falls into the broody archetype that can be hard for me to find endearing as a romantic interest in most cases, even if I can sympathize with him in general terms.

While I didn’t care for this book, that’s not to say others won’t enjoy it, especially as other reviewers seem to have responded well to it. If you enjoy a mystery-heavy historical romance and a hero with a dark past, you might like this one.

The Virgin Who Captured a Viscount, by Anna Bradley. Well another great read from this author. I absolutely loved how this love story was told. Daniel and Mari are two characters in this story that definitely kept the surprises and entertainment going in the book. These two characters you will find a stubborn, intense, independent, strong willed, intelligent and wear their hearts on their sleeve. While reading this love story, I concluded that there was nothing that Mari or Daniel wouldn’t do for one another.
I believe that the story was written very well. I liked the action that was spread throughout the book. There wasn’t a lot of it but just enough to keep the excitement of hunt moving in the book. The romance was very pleasing. Daniel and Mari definitely kept the fires burning in the Scottish winter.

A great start to a series. Anna Bradley always writes witty banter with compelling characters. I love the swooning virgin society. Cant wait to read more about these characters.

It started out a bit confusing to me—1772 and the boys poaching fish from the viscount’s pond in Scotland. The time jumps 24 years ahead to London where Daniel is a hulking brute with scars galore and looking to find more violence by walking St Giles. Mairi takes down the giant with one blow.

I think that Daniel’s propensity to violence stems from guilt. His guilt of not being able to save his friend back when they were 6. So all these years later he’s having nightmares but doesn’t realize why. Mairi is on a mission to bring him back to Scotland.

Through all Daniel and Mairi’s turbulence they rekindle their friendship and more. Of course he believes he is too rough and coarse a man for her, but they have an erotic connection that can’t be denied.

I loved that Daniel respected Mairi and wanted to protect her. I didn’t like that he was so mean to her in the beginning and said she was a liar for quite a while. It took other people to bring him to his senses about many things he wasn’t seeing. Why not trust in love?

I’ve enjoyed many of Ms Bradley’s series.

I received a copy of the book for my honest opinion.

We get to briefly revisit Lady Clifford's Charity School for Wayward Girls. This is Daniel's story. Lady Clifford's mysterious partner, muscle, and fixer. He's huge, rough around the edges, has killed to protect others, a roaming vigilante. When the remains of a young boy are found in a pond in Scotland Mairi's grandmother is arrested for the crime of murdering Daniel Adair. Mairi knows she didn't murder the boy. When she was five, she saw her grandmother hurrying eight-year-old Daniel out of the woods to his father waiting in a wagon. They drove off and that was the last time Mairi saw him. She was devastated at the departure of her friend but her grandmother never told her what happened that day.

Now she tracks the adult Daniel down in London to bring him back to Scotland to prove her grandmother's innocence. He has a different last name with no memory of his life before the age of eight. We see the women of the school from previous stories and their husbands but Daniel is quickly convinced by Lady Clifford to return with Mairi to Scotland to find the truth.

The story is very emotional. Daniel's trauma and Mairi's reaction to the sudden loss of her friend. Her anguish that her grandmother may hang. It turns out there are many secrets in the small town of Coldstream, Scotland.

When Mairi goes searching for her long lost friend to help save her grandmother’s life, she is not ready for what she finds in Daniel Brixton. His scars on the outside harbor the rough life he has lived, but the scars inside are reminders of his past. He is impressed with the determination and strength of the small woman who claims he is someone she knew as a child, but in the beginning he does not want to travel with her because he is dubious of her claims. He reluctantly changes his mind, and he sets off with her to the wilds of Scotland. There he finds himself not only embroiled in a mystery, but also on the verge of love.

Daniel is one of the characters we have been introduced to in the past in the other Swooning Virgin Society books. This is number five. However, if you have never read the others, or it has been a long time since you have picked up one of the others, this book is meant to be a standalone. The characters we loved in the other book make their appearance, but one will not be lost at all. In addition, you could read them out of order without feeling you have had any of the other plots spoiled. I do recommend reading the others as well, as they are an enjoyable romantic romp.

I was very invested in the character of Mairi. She was strong and caring and her motivation was believable. Daniel, of course, I had had a soft spot in the previous books, and was glad to see he got his own story. Though the title is a spoiler of sorts, the road to get to his final destination is filled with twists, turns, and characters that were interesting and fun. I sped through this book, as I was having so much fun I did not want to leave my new book friends. Eating and chores were secondary to finishing my book.

I wholeheartedly recommend this book to romance readers, but also to those who also just want a light read. I would call this a beach read, but as it is coming out in the fall, it is more like a read by a cozy fire. Either way, this book will leave you with a good feel.

Mairi Cameron goes to London from London to track down her childhood friend, Daniel Brixton, in order to clear her grandmother of murder charges.

There is a mystery to solve and romance which will keep you turning the pages. I loved the banter/attraction between Mairi and Daniel,

Mairi Cameron has come to London for one purpose--to find Daniel Brixton and convince him to return home with her to Scotland. Her grandmother has been accused of murder-his murder-but Daniel is alive and well. Problem is, Daniel doesn't remember anything about Scotland and at first, refuses to go back with Mairi. But, Mairi is persistent, and together they head back to her hometown, hoping they're not too late to save her beloved grandmother. Daniel doesn't believe a word Mairi says about his past, but there's something about the wee Scottish lass that has him following her. Will they be able to make it in time?

This was a delightful departure from the usual glittering balls and teas. It was dark, gritty, and a great mystery that would be difficult to unravel. Miss Bradley does a fantastic job teasing out Daniel's past through every tortured dream and memory. I loved that Mairi was so fierce, especially since she was described as "a wee lass." It was great to see she could take care of herself. This was one of the most enjoyable stories I've read in a long while, and I look forward to reading more in the series.
