Secrets in the Stacks is the second in the series of A Survivors Book Club Mysteries, Many of the characters in this book are carried over into the second, Rarity Cole is the main character and owner of The Next Chapter Book Store. After opening her new store in Sedona she established the Survivor's Book Club for people recovering from cancer. It started with only one member but is now 10. Darby Doyle is the newest member and works part-time in the book store. Archer Enders is Rarity's boyfriend who runs hiking tours. Rarity lives in a cute house along with her Pomeranian dog Killer, There is a festival in town which Rarity has a tent called Healing Thorough Reading along with her hydration and cooling station. After hearing a tarot card reading Darby is upset and leaves the festival to go home to her Grandmother where she is living. When she gets there she finds her grandmother, Katherine Doyle dead on the floor. She has been murdered. Drew Anderson, Sedona's police detective is called.

At the next book club meeting Darby asks the book club members to help her find who killed her grandmother. She fears that she is a suspect. The members vote that they will help her find the killer. Jonathan Anderson, Drew's father is in town on business and wants to join in the sleuthing. Rarity and Killer are the first to spend the night. While there they are spooked as someone has been in the house as books are thrown all over the floor. in the library..

This is where the reader is taken on an adventure to finding out who killed Katherine, Who was she before she came to Sedona, what is going on in the house, finding and reading her journals,, who is the men who show up at Rarity's store, etc. This all builds up into an exciting climax and surprising ending of whodunit. The book ends with Rarity and her friends all gathering for a cookout and they discuss going away together for a vacation. Is this the next adventure that Rarity and her friends have for the third book?

I loved all the characters and look forward to reading the next book.

Thank you NetGalley and Kensington Publishing Corp. for this ARC.

This book was so much fun! I hadn't realized it was book two in a series but without reading the first book, I still really enjoyed this! I love a book about books and then add in the layers of mystery, and this was just great!

This book is as much about friendship and being there for each other as it is about solving a murder.

"Secrets in the Stacks" is about a group of women who come together as strangers in Rarity's book club and bond together as friends. What sets this book apart from others following this same idea is that these women are almost all cancer survivors. They've faced that silent enemy and survived, They've shared a common enemy. They are now there for each other

When book club member Darby's beloved grandmother is murdered, they close ranks immediately and step forward to both physically and emotionally support Darby. The characters have grown immensely since book one and their back stories are slowly beginning to emerge as they share their united strength. It also doesn't hurt having detective Drew and Rarity's boyfriend, Archer on hand, but the women are the core. And, oh, Rarity's darling dog Killer, who we met in the first book. All have roles to play, which is a real plus.

I won't detail the plot as the book blurb does an excellent job. I'll simply say that secrets kept can lead to devastating results. Let's face it, we all have secrets. Even the most beloved characters have secrets, secrets even those closest to them don't know about. What secrets are being harbored in Sedona? Who are those strangers who keep popping up and unnerving Rarity? Heck, even Killer barks at them. Are there secrets hidden in the library study? What gives with Darby's parents? Will Drew even ask Sam out? Her patience is growing thin, after all. What role does Drew's father play in this whole mess? What drives someone to murder? Okay. Enough teasers. Read this one. Author Cahoon is a cancer survivor herself and has created a wonderful fictional family of friends for us to share without cancer being a prominent theme of the story. It's a winner.

Thanks #NetGalley and #KensingtonBooks for allowing me to visit with Rarity and her extended book club family again. We should all be lucky enough to have such a wonderful, positive group of supporting friends.

2nd in the series, the premise is still unique, but I had trouble remembering each character’s backstory from the last book, so it was a little confusing. A bit draggy but still overall an okay story.

Rarity is settling into her life in Sedona when her part time empoyee and group member Darcy's grandmother is murdered in her own house. Darcy is under suspicion and asks the group for help. As they start digging into Catherine's past they realize that a sweet old lady who volunteered at the church and helped the needy was not at all what she appeared to be.
The read was solid. I was a little confused on the story with Darcy's parents- they disappear, reappear, then disappear again, leaving their young daughter alone. Disappearing on their daughter for a year after she finished chemotherapy, then running off when the truth about the Grandmother came out-that part of the story was not well thought out since they appeared to be loving and caring parents.
Rarity's relationship with Archer is progressing, as is Drew's and Sam's.

This series is a wonderful addition to the cozy mystery genre.
Rarity doesn't just have books for sale, she offers friendship, solace, and comfort for those who are cancer survivors.
Her book club has taken an odd twist when they become involved in murder investigations.
This time the victim is the grandmother of one of Rarity's friends and employee, who is also a survivor.
This story is well told and kept me guessing until the very end.
These characters found their way into my heart and I hope to read more books by this wickedly talented author.

I love this author but right now the subject matter if this book is a bit too close to home. Give me a few months and I'll try again. Thank you.

Thank you to NetGalley for the advance read.

Thanks to Netgalley for this ebook. I didn’t realize until starting the book that it was the second book in a series. It reads as a stand alone and it wasn’t necessary to read book one. I was drawn to the book due to my love of reading books, dreams of owning a bookstore and being a cancer survivor (remission per those silly doctors). It’s was an enjoyable read which I finished in a day though there were many things throughout the book that bothered me ie why so many cancer patients at a young age, everyone involved in new relationships (no husbands or children?) and while someone wonderful has died it seems as though her life was diminished in the story and it was more about solving a murder and these perfect new relationships. Somewhat far fetched in my opinion. Enough so, that I’m not interested in reading the rest of the series. I would rate it 3.5 ⭐️ but had to give it 3 ⭐️.

When Rarity’s part time employee, Darby, loses her grandmother the book club members come to her aid. Both as friends who are supporting her through her loss, and as sleuths who will do their darnedest to clear her from police suspicion.

With Catherine being so beloved, why would have wanted the woman dead when she did so much good for the community? Who would do such a thing and would they come back for the bookclub members if they get too close?

The second book in this series delivered another solid entry. With a cast of likeable characters and one cute dog, there is someone we can all relate to in the group. The whodunits are all well written and filled with red herrings and enough suspects to keep you guessing. Lynn Cahoon is one of my favorite cozy authors and reading just one her books will show you why!

This book has a lovely premise of women helping each other in a book club of survivors of breast cancer. When one of their members is under suspicion of murdering her beloved grandmother, the others pitch in to help her. Although I found the reason for her being suspected of the crime was a bit dubious, I liked reading of the other characters support and care. I received this book as a complimentary copy and am leaving this review voluntarily.

Great characters and a solid whodunit plot complete with post cancer treatment support system.
The publisher's blurb is a good hook, so I won't repeat it nor deal in spoilers. Can't go wrong with a book about murder and a bookseller.
Enjoy!
I requested and received a free e-book copy from Kensington Books/Lyrical Press via NetGalley. Thank you.

Secrets in the Stacks is the 2nd book in Lynn Cahoon's new series, Survivors' Book Club Mysteries, focused on a cancer-survivors group in Sedona. Rarity owns a book shop and runs a weekly book club that acts more like a group of sleuths for local murders. This time, Darby's grandmother is murdered and Rarity wants to help her employee solve the case. But there's a double identity and long buried secret about Darby's family that rises to the surface. I enjoyed the book and the series is coming together. The characters are generous and kind, and the side stories are beginning to develop. Rarity's relationship with Archer is admirable, but I do want to learn more about her family. Good sophomore effort in the series and a recommended series to begin reading soon.
