Such a fun book! This book is witty and has good banter between the characters. A woman goes through a brutal divorce from a controlling ex husband and before she knows it he's engaged again and his new fiancé's brother is knocking at her door. He is trying to enlist her help to try to save his sister from the same fate. And did I mention he's super hot? Then cue the small town being involved in the

This book is fun, quick and flirty. I liked the overbearing friends and the town's involvement in the new friendship turned possibly more? I enjoyed the story and felt like the characters felt real. I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone looking for something fun with likable characters!

Divorcée Vanessa joins up with sexy small-town sheriff Michael to stop his little sister from marrying Vanessa’s narcissistic ex.

LaQuette is a queen of smart, steamy contemporary romance. In the prologue, Vanessa is a wreck after leaving the narcissistic husband who emotionally abused her for twenty years. Two years later, when the main action of the story opens, she’s found her feet with the help of her girlfriends. Michael is compassionate and supportive, understanding how difficult it is for her to entangle herself in her ex’s life again. Vanessa and Michael are both reluctant to start up a new romance after the scars of their past. The chemistry proves too strong to resist—but they have to dig deep to find the strength to overcome their internal and external obstacles, so they can be together. There are no superficial “misunderstandings” here. The conflicts are believable and real.

The audiobook was enjoyable and well done, making it easy to tell the characters apart.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

Thanks to Netgalley, St. Martin’s Press and Orange Sky Audio for the ARC and audio ARC of this!

Such a cute romance, I loved that the characters were on the older end compared to most romances - Vanessa has just gotten out of a 20 year marriage. The tension was really good and the characters were so much fun to read about! I hope we get sequels for the best friends.

Vanessa Jared is a 40 something Black woman who divorced her manipulative husband after 20+ years of marriage. While trying to find new direction and meaning in her life alongside friends from her divorce support class, Vanessa is approached by a small town Sheriff (Michael) who needs her help since his sister is engaged to Vanessa’s horrible ex.

It is so refreshing to read a romance book where the protagonist is not a 20 something.

As someone who also was lost after divorcing a manipulative ex husband, I felt seen through so much of Vanessa’s journey. I loved watching her navigate finding confidence, friendships, and love after her entire world was turned upside down.

The chemistry between Michael and Vanessa was amazing. The had fantastic banter, and those steamy scenes had me sweatin’! I also really enjoyed the two of them navigating communication and boundaries especially since they both have past trauma that shaped how they are.

This was a perfect summer read for me! It was such a cute book, but I can’t lie that chemistry just wasn’t there enough for me. I still enjoyed the story and how it unfolded though it wasn’t what I expected.

Two years after her divorce, Vanessa Jared is surprised to find a small town sheriff on her doorstep, asking her to help him. It turns out his much younger sister is currently engaged to her ex, and said ex proposed with Vanessa’s grandmother’s engagement ring.

First of all, if you have been through an emotionally abusive, controlling, or manipulative romantic relationship, please proceed with caution before you pick up this book. I’m going to go ahead and include the infidelity content warning at the top of this review, too.

This book takes place over a relatively short period of time, and LaQuette wastes no time ramping up the heat. This is an insta-lust book. From the first encounter on Vanessa’s front porch to her leaving the big city and stumbling into a forced proximity situation in Michael’s small town, both of the main characters are thinking THOSE thoughts—quite vividly, at that. And despite the circumstances that brought them together, they decide to indulge those fantasies while she is in town.

My favorite aspects of the book:
- FMC in her 40s
- Vanessa’s fierce friendships in The Savvy, Sexy Singles Club and how the women support each other
- Vanessa pulling herself out of isolation; finding her strength and confidence again; and going after what she wants for herself.
- How Michael treats Vanessa with respect and is just an overall good guy

I listened to the audiobook version. The book has dual points-of-view but a single narrator. There were sections where it was not always clear to which character perspective I was listening. I liked the vocal choices the narrator made for some of the characters but found others a bit grating.

Also, I primarily read open door romance, but some of the words chosen to represent parts of the anatomy during the steamy scenes are not my favorites. Hearing them in audiobook format was a bit of a record scratch moment for me.

If you want a hot romp of a book with an emotionally heavy backstory but quick resolution, Vanessa Jared’s Got a Man may be the book for you.

I received an advance copy of the audiobook from OrangeSkyAudio and NetGalley. All review opinions are my own.

This is a sassy, sexy romance based around a strong woman who knows exactly what she wants.
I loved this from the start and didn't want it to end. The friendships and relationships jump off the page, this owes to great character development, I really want the author to write a sequel to this so we can have more Vanessa adventures.
I am really glad I was sent this by Netgalley and will be looking for more books by LaQuette in a heartbeat.

Do you like sassy women friends and a hot romance? If so, this book is definitely one you’ll like. Vanessa is a divorced woman in her 40s. She met her two best friends in a divorce support group and their relationships/interactions are wonderful. One day, two years after her divorce is final, Michael Park shows up at her door because he’s trying to protect his sister from Vanessa’s ex, who was an emotionally abusive, controlling, cheating husband, and he asks Vanessa to help him. They have an instant attraction. The intercultural romance was delightful (Vanessa and her two friends are African American; Michael is Korean-American.) Michael happens to be the sheriff in a small town in the Pocono Mountains (Vanessa refers to the town as “Mayberry”), where her two friends live. She lives in New Jersey, in a gated community of some sort, is an accountant, and is totally not used to the vibes of a small town.

The audiobook was great. Denise Wallace did a fabulous job with the various voices. Be advised: do not listen to this without headphones because there are a bunch of very explicit scenes. Definitely NSFW!

Warnings: (past) death of parents; (past) emotionally abusive relationship
Steam factor: High

Thank you to OrangeSky Media and NetGalley for the opportunity to listen to an advance copy of this audiobook and to St. Martin’s Griffin and NetGalley for the opportunity to read an advance reader copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

🌟Audio Book Review🌟

🎧📚 Vanessa Jared's Got A Man by LaQuette

A hot and fun romance featuring strong female friendships, a sexy sheriff, and getting revenge on that horrible ex.

Vanessa Jared's post-divorce life might look great on paper, but she finds herself feeling stuck and restless, unsure of what she wants out of life. After being approached by the stunningly handsome Michael, Vanessa's best girlfriends encourage her to help him convince his younger sister that her fiancee (Vanessa's skeezy ex-husband) is bad news. When a perfect storm causes Vanessa to end up without a hotel room in Michael's sleepy little town, her only option is to stay with him. With the obvious chemistry between the two of them, falling into bed, and in love, feels pretty inevitable.

Vanessa Jared's Got A Man had me hooked from the very first word. The characters were vibrant and relatable, the story was compelling and funny, and the smut... Listen, I spend a lot of time in the car for work, so I audiobook most of my drive. I HAD TO PULL OVER DURING THE SMUT BECAUSE IT WAS JUST SO DAMN HOT!

LaQuette's novel is flawless and Denise Wallace's narration is amazing!!!

The audiobook will be published on September 19th! Run, don't walk!

Thank you, NetGalley and OrangeSky Audio for this ALC.

Vanessa Jared is trying to figure out her life, after divorcing her toxic ex. But suddenly on her doorstep small town sheriff shows up. He wants her to talk to his little sister who is engaged to Vanessa's ex. They struck an agreement, but suddenly there's storm, and Vanessa and Michael grow close👀

It was really insta love/insta lust, they wanted each other since they first saw each other and they professed their feelings after knowing each other FOR A WEEK.

But it was okey, quick audiobook, could relax reading it. 4/5⭐

Thank you NetGalley for providing digital advanced copy in exchange for honest review.

3.5/4 i couldn’t decide so i rounded up. The spice was good the romance and attraction and chemistry was believable. The circumstances on how these two hooked up is the only thing that made me feel like this is a bit unrealistic. There was plenty of ways Vanessa could have ended up back home but i digress. Her relationship with her friends was great and i loved how these two grown folks didn’t have a miscommunication trope in the 3rd end breakup. They both have serious issues they needed to workout and also needed to realize how important they are to each other. Although i enjoyed this book it’s not something i would right home about. But would i recommend it to an older crowd that likes small town romance, absolutely.

This story has a female protagonist Vanessa Jared, who is trying to make a life for herself after her marriage of two decades comes to an end. Luckily on her way to a divorce support group she bumps into two women and together they create the Savvy, Sexy, Single club as they are all women in their 40's rebuilding themselves after divorce.
Now the story is set two years after the divorce and Venessa is looking to set up her own business and move as much away from her ex husband as possible.
I liked reading a romance book where the characters were a bit older (early 40's). It was a nice change of pace as most of the romance novels are based on characters in their early 20's

It's been two years since Vanessa's divorce and she's ready to set things straight and get back in track doing something she is passionate about with her life. When a police officer knocks at her door asking for her help to "save" his sister from Vanessa's ex-husband, she decides to help and the two of them are forced to spend some time together and things get hot and heavy...

Although it is nothing like I expected it to be, this book is phenomenal. It ticks all the right boxes: small town romance, cozy, lovable and understandable MCs. The book is well written, the plot felt plausible and interesting, the spice is hot enough and I loved the MCs being in their forties!

So good, I squeed so much. The chemistry lept off the page right from the first time they met. I enjoyed all the set up and the characters. Everything was great. Will definitely, DEFINITELY be checking out more from this author 😍

I am obsessed. First of all, this was spicy as hell and I LOVED IT. I also love a 2nd-chance-at-life/love situation with a character overcoming their trauma from a previous toxic relationship. I want to be Vanessa Jared when I grow up. Loved this !!!

I hadn't read anything by this author before and I thought this was pretty good. I enjoyed the style but I didn't love the premise for the book. Why would Michael go through all that trouble to make a point to his sister when there were easier ways to do it?

Sex scenes in this book were pretty hot and I enjoyed them!

Overall, I liked this book but I didn't love it. I liked that the MMC was Korean - I'm Asian American and I love to see more AAPI characters in romance books! I enjoyed the narration for the audiobook. Denise Wallace is very talented!

Steam level: 🔥🔥🔥
⚠️: divorce, mention of: infidelity, partner emotional abuse, death of a parent, and fatal car accident

I really enjoyed this book! I loved the strong woman lead who was overcoming an abusive ex and wasn’t too afraid to make sure she got everything she needs. I was afraid I wouldn’t feel connected since the character is so decent amount older than me but I was gladly proven wrong!

Thank you to St. Martin's Press and OrangeSky Audio for the advanced listening copy of Vanessa Jared's Got a Man, receipt of which does not impact my review.

It's been two years since Vanessa Jared's divorce from her cheating ex, Karl, was finalized, and she's ready for the next phase in life. She has wonderful friends and a great place to live - but some things are missing, professionally and personally. The last thing she expected was to be pulled into her ex's orbit again, by Monroe Hills' handsome sheriff Michael - because Karl's at it again, and this time he's targeted Michael's younger sister. Oh, and Karl told people she's dead AND stole her grandmother's ring to propose to his new fiance!

LaQuette's novel was such a delightful read, full of passion, heart, and fun moments, too. Vanessa's journey was a joy to read and follow. The chemistry between her and Michael was fantastic and the narrator, Denise Wallace, did a magnificent job with both POV and differentiating between all the characters. Plus, the epilogue appears to set us up for a book two - I can't wait to be back in Monroe Hills!

DNF @ 30%

Thank you so much to SMP Romance and Netgalley for providing an e-arc and ALC of this. All thoughts and opinions are still my own.

I am unbelievable sad to be DNFing this book. It was one of my most anticipated fall releases (I mean have you seen this cover?!) but sadly this one just did not work for me.

I want to start with what I did like first though. I LOVED our heroine. I thought that her personal journey was beautifully handled and I liked watching her be both strong and broken at times. As much as we'd all like to think that healing is a linear upward trend, I think that Vanessa's ups and downs were a much more accurate depiction of PTSD and abuse.

But the friendships!! The friendship between the 3 female characters nearly kept me reading this story. I loved them all so much. Their friendship was ride or die and watching them support each other through some really difficult stuff, no holds barred, is what everyone deserves out of their friends.

And I thought the concept of the plot was fun and made a great meet cute.

However, I was 30% into a 270ish page book and we still hadn't actually gotten to the plot. We were still in the setup stage and my focus was starting to wane.

But in the end it was the actual writing style that made me decide to put this down. This book is SO descriptive and wordy. Every single detail is described in excruciating detail - I literally know where in the hero's kitchen his utensils are stored. And in the end, I just couldn't keep pushing through for such a slow moving plot.
