With 'Blast Wave', Alex Morgan a Zeta Operative, stands on her own 2 feet, her Dad Dan Morgan also a Zeta agent doesn't make an appearance and her sister Jenya does. Liked the writing, keeps you turning pages, starts in London ends in Tokyo, it's a formula read and good conquers evil.

Alex is in London, to met her boss attend an International Security Conference, she'll defend the city when the Ares Network, when they do several attacks to try spread resources thin and the real target is the Parliament building were the meeting being held.

Ultimately Alex gets sent to Tokyo, she's assigned to protect Yoki-Dyne a lucrative tech company, she meets up with one of they're employee's Temi, whose supposed to help her and they discover that someone has attack the company financial.

Alex gets help from Zeta, from Sherpard who works in the IT department, who discovered that someone who turns out to be the Ares Network hacked into the company and slowly steal money. Shepard retakes control through hacking the system, even takes over a bank, without the bank knowing it to stop the threat to Yoki-Dyne.

Did like Alex's cover company makes an appearance in the storyline with street racers, she ends up making a business deal with them to buy parts from her and they'll also help her out at one point.

It's a pretty simple story, although well written, it's predictable at times, finished it and would recommend it.

Thanks to netgalley.com and Kensington Publishing for the advance ArC for my honest review.

m pretty sure I haven't read books by this author before. But what an interesting story it was starting with Alex Morgan herself. She's just going along minding her business on the way to a "meeting'' and things started getting explosive. And yes, there is a double meeting with that word, "meeting." I also liked that not only did Alex have skills when it came to physical security but also her second job was a working cover. What do I mean by that? That her cover was a real business, one that she loved and excelled at.
Great world building is done in the story with plenty of details. At times, it felt a bit much to me BUT you can tell the author knew their stuff. But what I loved best was The Action. The action when it began to move did so really quickly, keeping me in the story. Also the Zeta's computer team of hackers was something else that kept me reading. Shepard and O'Neal had to keep themselves on their toes on this op. They did a good job of racing around in cyber-world to try to help Alex. I also couldn't help but like Temi, Alex's Japanese contact.
I really liked that right off the bat it became really clear why the book has the title that it does. I always like that. It fit so well.

Blast Wave is an action packed ride of a novella with insight into Alex Morgan’s relationship with her older sister. A quick read for a lunch break or doctor’s visit, it’ll hold your interest and keep your mind occupied while waiting. Great thriller!

Blast Wave by Leo J. Maloney is intriguing and suspenseful; a novella you can’t put down. It brings almost non-stop action to this spin-off series featuring Alex Morgan, the daughter of Dan Morgan.

Alex is on her way to a meeting in London, England with Zeta director Diana Bloch when there’s a sniper attack in Trafalgar Square. Alex works to pinpoint the sniper, but quickly realizes this is only one move planned by the vicious Ares Network. As events escalate, Alex heads to Tokyo to safeguard a firm closely allied with Western interests. However, more is going on than initially meets the eye. Can the threats be eliminated?

Due to the shortness of the story and the prolific action, there is limited character growth. However, the reader does get a look at Alex’s intelligence, her fighting capability, one of her interests outside of work, and how she goes about making friends. She is definitely memorable and she came to life for me as the story progressed.

The author does a great job of world-building. I was able to easily visualize the settings whether it was London or Tokyo. The prose is well-written, skilled, and proficient. There are sub-plots to the story which tie together well. With an action thriller such as this one, the reader normally has to be able to suspend belief. Despite this, the author’s own black ops experience made the action and story line seem very real. It added authenticity and depth that many lack. The plot was clever, intense, and impactful.

Overall, this book was fast-paced, tense, and exciting from the beginning. The high stakes made it a page-turner. Once I started it, I couldn’t stop until I reached the end. The story line felt fresh and certainly delivered on the promise of its opening scenes. Maloney is great at building tension and suspense as he delivers exciting outcomes. If you enjoy action thrillers that have a bold, intense, and strong female character, then this may be the series for you. I can’t wait to find out what is next for Alex. I also want to read the series featuring her father.

Kensington Books and Leo J. Maloney provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. This is my honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way. Publication date is currently set for December 13, 2022.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review "Blast Wave", the latest Alex Morgan thriller by Leo J. Maloney.
As a long time reader of the Dan Morgan series, and having read all of the previous Alex Morgan books, I was excited to get the chance to read this one. While it might be only a novella, it does pack a punch; in fact a few punches, an assortment of kicks, lots of shots....
It did not disappoint! Another high-octane, 90-mile-an-hour (and faster) adventure that pits Alex and Zeta against their usual foe - Ares, and their allies.
It starts with one or two (or maybe three) attacks as Alex is on her way to a security conference in London and ends with a rescue and attempted attack in Tokyo, Japan. Along the way we're treated to the usual pyrotechnics and Alex's amazing talent for extricating herself (and others) from the jaws of danger. Oh, yes, and we meet up with Jenya again.
These thrillers are short, but pack a massive punch, and I cannot wait to see what Maloney has in store for Alex (and Dan) in the future. Recommended.

First and foremost, a large thank you to NetGalley, Leo J. Maloney, and Kensington Books for providing me with a copy of this publication, which allows me to provide you with an unbiased review.

Always eager to get my hands on anything by Leo J. Maloney, I rushed to read this ARC. Maloney extends the Alex Morgan series with the novella, keeping the excitement high and the backstory ever-developing. Maloney has done well already with the elder Morgan (Dan) in a previous series and this collection is following in its footsteps with the same stellar outcome.

As Alex Morgan is in London for an international security conference, she can only wonder what’s going on. Smoke billows around the city, with explosions in the background, while a sniper has been trying to mow down members of the Zeta Group. While Alex does her best to neutralise the threat from the Ares network, there are apparently larger threats that require her attention on the other side of the world.

After being sent to Japan to help Yoki-Dyne, a significant tech company in the region that finds itself being targeted through cyber attacks, Alex realises that there is more to protection than guns and bullets. She soon learns that Ares has been working to dismantle this company as well, in hopes of siphoning off large portions of its profits, likely funding terrorist efforts around the world. As Alex learns more, she discovers that Ares is using a female operative of their own. This clash of women could turn out to be Alex’s most difficult mission to date.

Working with some locals, as well as members of Zeta, Alex seeks to get to the heart of the matter and stop events from getting out of control, all while seeking to remain one step ahead, of the operative targeting her. While Alex’s father, Dan, was a master at keeping the enemy at bay, she is still earning all the family tricks of the trade, with little time to ponder her next move. Zeta Group is relying on Alex, as are many others, to keep Ares from retrieving some of the most delicate intel and Yoki-Dyne’s profits to fund their future terrorist plots. Alex not only has the Morgan name, but also the grit and determination to get it done. Another stellar piece by Leo J. Maloney that will have series fans begging for more.

I cannot remember how I came across Leo J. Maloney and his early work, but I have never looked back or missed a book. Maloney mixes an intense counter-espionage thriller with something that adds depth to the Morgan family through the eyes of their daughter, Alex. Gritty in its delivery, Maloney pulls out all the stops to keep the reader enthralled with this novella, where there is little time to stop and take a breath. I can only hope that both Morgans will be back soon, in another adventure that keeps me occupied as I delve into the world of terrorism and high-stakes espionage.

Leo J. Maloney has always had a great handle on his narrative, telling a story that keeps the reader on their edge of their seat until the final page turn. As the narrative builds, key characters add something to the story that provides direction where there is little time for stagnancy. A few plot twists occur within the story, keeping the reader wondering as Alex Morgan tries to untangle herself from the web that Ares has spun for her. Strong storytelling and suspenseful writing are two keys to Leo J. Maloney’s work, which are present once again. I can only wonder what Zeta Group and Maloney have in store for readers in the coming months.

Kudos, Mr. Maloney, for another great piece, show as it may have been. I await more, which I am sure is close to completion.

Ares is at it again and this time Alex Morgan will have to figure it out without interference from her father Dan. Blast Wave by Leo J. Maloney is an action and thrills filled story starting in London and ending in Tokyo. This is probably the best in this series so far. It seems that maloney is writing more in this series than in the original and I feel like that is a good thing. Most characters are the same but there is a lot of new people and they bring Zeta back to life. In this series we also learn more about Alex cover business than we ever did with her father. I find that really refreshing and it explains more about why she is in different places, not only as a cover but also to do business. I haghly recommend that you try these books. I also like to thank Kensington Books and Netgalley for letting me read this book and I hope Leo J. Maloney has lots of stories left to write.
