Having read hundreds of Christmas stories, this one far exceeds them all! Totally unique take on holiday traditions with a few rarely mentioned in other books. Full of wonderful characters, the main two characters have been perfectly written. It was a joy to see their romance bud and their affection grow. The story was so well written that you’ll find you are compelled to read it all in one sitting. Yes, you will find yourself at the end of the book before you know it. A wonderful tale of true love that you’ll want to read over and over again.

This was a nice romance that appealed on many levels.
Spoiler alerts.
This is part of a series, but the story can stand alone. The heroine is almost to her majority, and will be able to make her own decisions, but her mother is wanting her married now. Since she is her brother's ward, he has the final say and he argues that most of the young ladies in their friend circle have waited until they were 21 to 25 to get married and it hasn't hurt their standing in society. Their mother isn't happy, but she goes off with her new husband. The heroine is grateful for her brother. Then he tells her they are going to a house party at the Huntington's over Christmas. Hose parties are notorious for being filled with eligible single ladies and gentlemen who are looking for a spouse. The heroine is not looking for a spouse and has turned down a few suitors. She doesn't know what she wants at this time, but she knows she hasn't met the One. She is thinking of taking a Grand Tour, like young men do, but has to talk her brother into it. She is relieved that she will not have to be stressed during the house party. It will consist of married friends and their family members and lots of children. Our heroine loves children. When she arrives at the house party, she goes to the nursery and spends her time there with her friends who are mothers and their children.
Our hero, the Earl of Devon, has just returned from his Grand Tour of three-and-a-half years. He took an extended trip, because while he was away, the young lady he had been engaged to since adolescence had reached her majority and fell in love with another man and married him. He didn't love her but he stayed longer hoping society would forget by the time he returned. He was picked up at the docks by a friend who was asked to take him to the house party his mother was at with many eligible young ladies. His friend was going to the Huntington's house party, which was made up of friends, family and children, no young ladies looking for marriage. It did not take long for the hero to decide to tag along to the Huntington's house party. He was getting out of the carriage at the estate and he saw a lovely woman carrying a baby who he felt an instant attraction for. He was surprised because he had never felt that, not even for his previous fiance. Then his next feeling was the realization she was probably married. But, even after just getting off a ship, then crammed three days in a carriage, his first mission was to determine if the young lady was married. He was delighted to find out that she was the younger sister of Lord Rutherford.
This story doesn't have intrigue or adventure or drama, but is it a very nice story to snuggle with on a rainy afternoon, like I did. I liked a lot about this story. It was an easy read, even if there were a lot of people to keep track of at the house party and it had a way of drawing the reader into the story. The characters were likable and the setting was very descriptive. The end was a little abrupt, but is was a solid ending, no dangling story lines. Overall, a 5 star read and I recommend reading it.

SO CHARMING!!! The Earl's Christmas Bride by Ella Quinn is a must read. What I liked about this book is that love at first sight can happen. Ella is a very gifted story teller and writer and I always enjoy her books. I found this story to have wonderful characters, has the real feel of the regency era, vivd descriptions and very well written. This story has a young lady that wants to travel instead of marrying, an earl that has just gotten back from a 3 yr travel due to being jilted, a mother who wants to see their child married, a Christmas house party that is friends and family only, wanting to learn of their travels & has questions, wanting to court, a play of Snow White, having a Christmas tree for the first time, making decorations, learning to play the guitar and falling in love when you least expect it. I am highly recommending you read this book, as I said it is so very Charming!!!

This was an entertaining, well-written book. It was fun, sweet, romantic and held my interest. I didn't want to put it down. I enjoyed this book and look forward to reading more books by this author.

Althea Rutherford is disappointed in all the men she has met so far as prospective husbands and wishes to be allowed to travel overseas instead of doing another 'season.' Lucian, Earl of Devon has just been jilted and is not looking for love either. They meet at a family Christmas gathering and of course they fall in love.

This would be a perfect book to read at Christmas for any reader of historical romance. There are some lovely scenes of Christmas as it was then, shopping at market stalls for handmade gifts, making bon bons for the tree, being entertained by family plays. The whole book is gentle and relaxing and a pleasure to read.

Sweet and simple, more of a novella than a full length book.

I really liked both the leads but I thought if the book was longer, there could have been more depth to them. I liked al the side characters but there were SO many of them, they featured a little too heavily considering the short length.

Very much put me in a Christmas mood though, which was fun

I received a copy of this from Netgalley and this is my freely given opinion.

This was a cute little Christmas novella in the Worthington/Marriage Game world. There is a family friendly house party over the Christmas period happening at the Marquis of Exeter's estate. Lucian, the Earl of Devon has just returned to Britain after a long Grand Tour, with his life in a bit of disarray as his intended bride threw him over and married someone else. His friend, Exeter, whisks him away to his estate to join in his house party instead, and Lucian is glad as he thinks he would be able to just enjoy time with friends, and not worry about having marriage-minded debutantes chasing after him.

Althea Rutherford has been out for a couple of years but has not found anyone of interest to her as a husband. She is also thinking that the house party would be low stress, in terms of matchmaking, and has conceived an interest to travel herself, and is hoping to use the time to convince her brother and guardian to allow her to have her own Grand Tour rather than joining the Marriage Mart again. She plumbs Lucian for information to help her decide where she should plan to travel.

They develop a friendship and attraction, and are further aided by the matchmaking youngsters and other family members of the house party. This is a sweet and cute little Christmas romantic novella. Nothing really outstanding, but a cute little story nonetheless.

2.5 stars out of 5.

This is a sweet, squeaky clean holiday novella. Althea Rutherford, has been out for two years and is tired of the marriage mart. She would like to travel on the continent on a grand tour like men. Lucian, Earl of Devon is just returning from his Grand tour. He extended it beyond the normal three years as his intended married while he was away. Both are invited to a family house party at Lord Exeter’s. It is a families and friends gathering and surprisingly Lucian and Althea are the only two unattached.

There are conversations over chess, shopping in the village and they even get the starring roles in the children’s play production of Snow White. It is all very cute, with no tension or angst or much of anything else. I’ve read a few of Quinn’s books and recognized a couple from The Marriage Game series and it also lists on GR’s as part of The Worthingtons series. I’m assuming they are part of the same world and there would be extra interest in this book from readers of either series as they would know other couples at the party.

At just over a hundred pages this can be read and enjoyed quickly. For me it is 3 stars, but can see readers rating it higher if they were invested in the other characters and getting a chance to catch up on their lives. Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A Christmas romance!

A pleasing story of reluctant debutante, Althea Rutherford, who wanted to travel rather than marry, and a jilted fiancé who is contemplating his future. Lucian, the Earl of Rutherford, joins his friends for a quiet Christmas season, and is pleasantly distracted. A hesitant and sweet Christmas romance where love quietly triumphs proving love will be no barrier to travel.

Many thanks to the author and publisher.

I was in the mood for something different from my usual preferred genre offerings so decided to go looking in one of my favorite categories from long ago, historical romance. This one turned out to be so low key I began to wonder if I had mistakenly wandered over into the YA book shelves. And, in fact, this book can be read by any age group; young, old or somewhere in between.

It seems this novella is part of a series featuring men and women who have no interest in getting married. In this instance Miss Althea Rutherford has accepted an invitation to spend Christmas in the English countryside where the houseguests are comprised of young children, young women not yet "out" in society, parents and grandparents. Wholesome as all get-out! Into this placid landscape comes Lucian, the Earl of Devon, who has been thrown over by his fiancé who has found true love while he frittered his time away on his three-year grand tour of the Continent. He isn't really hurt by her defection, but he wants to keep away from any marriage-hunting maidens.

Believe me, you can read this one aloud in church and nobody would raise an eyebrow. Quiet, yes. Tension filled, no. Three stars because it came terribly close to being boring.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for an e-galley of this novel.

A delightful holiday novella from Ella Quinn that will get you in the Christmas spirit and giving you just what's needed for short afternoon read. Returning from an extended tour of Europe, the jilted Earl of Devon, Lucien, is in no hurry to marry. Miss Althea Rutherford is determined to have the same traveling experiences afford her male peers, leaving her in no hurry to marry. When Lucien first lays eyes on Althea, its love at first sight. She's determined to leave, he's inclined to hang up his traveling shoes, will both be able to make concessions and find their HEA together? I mean..duh,, of course they will, it's a romance novel.

This is a very sweet, short, and enjoyable holiday story. Quinn herself stated the opportunity to have the main characters get horizontal never presented itself; therefore, we have a few kisses, but overall clean romance. I've enjoyed other Quinn books, therefore, this is a recommend from me. I would have liked a bit more conflict, but found it to be enjoyable nonetheless.

I enjoyed this book. It was light and fluffy, and a quick read. To me there wasn't particularly intriguing about either of the characters, but they were nice enough. For me, the entire story seemed to be too much of a foregone conclusion. I realize that almost all romance genre books end as you would ultimately expect, but in this book there were no conflicts at all other than them each wondering if the other person might like them back. So, overall very simplistic, but a nice distraction from real life.

This was a very sweet Christmas novella! Unfortunately no steamy scenes, but it was still lovely nonetheless. There was no angst, which was refreshing in a romance.

This is a very sweet, cute, easy to read fast paced novel of love and romance. When you are feeling like you need a feel-good pick me up type of book this is one for you. A classic love story set in regency times, it has the perfect atmosphere for snowy days curled up by the fire and falling in love!

I'm posting an honest review after reading an advanced readers copy of this story.

The old saying that when you stop looking love will find you comes true. Althea Rutherford is the oldest sister of Sebastian Rutherford who was the main love interest in The Secret Life of Miss Anna Marsh, my favorite story in that series. Althea is tired of all the gentlemen she's met, they're all the same. She's decided to leave town & take some time off, maybe for good. A house party is the answer she needs, and it'll be fun to catch up with her friends. Lucian, Earl of Devon has just come back from his Grand Tour, it was 3 and a half years long! He's got to get his parents off his back and marry. He's been burned and isn't keen to mingle with Ton ladies just yet. A invitation to a house party is the perfect excuse to stay away from London. These 2 are cute and the story inviting. It's a win-win and I'm hoping to read about some of this generation on their way to an HEA.

Lucian, Earl of Devon, has been on an extended tour of Europe. But now he’s returned to England determined to remain unmarried after being jilted. Devon accepts his friend Lord Exeter’s invitation to a holiday house party only after being assured the other guests are exclusively couples and children. Yet it seems Exeter forgot to mention Miss Althea Rutherford. Notoriously difficult to please, Althea has been out for two years, met no one she can envision spending her life with, and is now sick of would-be suitors, she is determined to tour the Continent.
A well written charming novella & two people falling in love there’s no mystery, no angst just a delicious romance. There is a bit of matchmaking going on from a few sources but weren’t needed as both Lucian & Althea were attracted to each other from their first meeting & found that they had so much in common & the more time they spent together the more their feelings grew. I also loved that we caught up with characters from previous books
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

A very cute story. Althea Rutherford wants to travel the world before marrying. She meets Lucian, Viscount Devon at a Christmas party. Lucian has just gotten back from a world tour after being jilted by his fiancée. They quickly realize that they have feelings for each other. This is a charming novella. I gave it 5-stars. Another wonderful read from Ms. Quinn.
