this was a fun and light read. i saw some reviews before reading the book saying they find the couple immature so i didn't know if i would like this but i find the opposite. ryan and evita were mature but also sweet characters.

their mothers are enemies since highschool and even though i find it stupid i understand their reasons at the end.(ryan's mother has daddy issues 🤨)

there wasn't ow/om drama or third act break-up and this was closed door(they only kiss 2-3 times). they openly communicate and i liked side characters(there were so many) but my rating is a little low even though i enjoyed this very much. because the writing was a little cheesy and some parts felt like a bad staged theatre 😔

I liked the premise of this book: two rival families both think they won a free vacation in Nantucket, but they arrive and find that another family is there. They have to make it work and separate bedrooms, meal time, and space at the beach between the two families. I thought that it would be funny and full of pranks or lighthearted back and forth, but the story just fell flat.

I found myself bored by the antics of the two mothers. They acted immature and childish, and I didn't understand why they were still so mad at each other after all of these years. The bickering between the moms was so drawn out, and it wasted a lot of time in the story.

With the romance between Evita and Ryan, there wasn't much there. They both had crushes on each other in high school, but their moms' rivalry got in the way of any romantic relationship between them. They didn't interact much with each other, and it felt very rushed.

Thanks to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for an ARC of this book.

I liked that the concept of two different families were also given a spotlight such as its issues and dynamics. The Puerto Rican family culture felt strong. They were bubbly and affectionate. On another note, the Hatfield Family dynamics were totally the opposite. They were uptight and reserved. I couldn’t imagine how chaotic this may be. Having such kind of these two families were put together under one roof. And, you were stuck with them on a 1-week summer holiday.

Basically, this was a feel-good and multicultural romance book to read. I thought that this book was meant to be ridiculous and not take itself seriously. The kind of family drama was irritating and sometimes shallow, especially the mothers. But, the comedic disaster magnets that all these book characters attracted. They warmed up to one another eventually. It had made me satisfied until the ending.

It is ideal for readers who are keen of a quick and light-hearted summer romance comedy novels.

This is one of those books that should have been funny and charming but instead fell completely flat. I was expecting all of the tension that a Romeo and Juliet, star crossed lovers stuck in the middle of a family feud promises but this book sadly didn’t deliver. The family conflict felt immature and dominated the storyline over the romance between the leads. There was no build up or tension between the leads which felt like a missed opportunity since they hadn’t connected since high school. Overall, this book was a miss for me and I struggled to get through it.

I rounded up this closed door romance from a 3.5ish, because while I really liked it, I liked it more as a family drama than as a romance.

Evita and Ryan’s moms have hated each other since they were in high school. When THEY were in HS, Ryan and Evita both had a secret thing for each other but their parents kept them apart. Now, ten years later, there has been a misunderstanding and the two families must share a Nantucket beach house, and Evita and Ryan must keep the peace and deal with their rekindled feelings for each other. This book was sometimes laugh out loud funny with the shenanigans of their families, and the blooming romance between Ryan and Evita is super sweet.

Overall, a sweet romance and a fun family novel, but wished there was a bit more chemistry between the love interests. Otherwise I thought it was cute

I DNFd at 25%. The writing felt clunky and unnecessarily wordy at times. The parents reminded me of middle schoolers. And the main characters felt like they had no chemistry. This book had such a good premise but fell short pretty fast. It may be a read someone loves, but that person is not me.

Yes it's a little silly and a lot of trope-y but this tale of two families who have been feuding since the moms were in high school is also fun. Evita and Ryan find themselves in the middle when the Macados and the Hatfields discover that their planned vacation home has been double booked. Neither family is going to back down so everyone has to share. So in addition to the tension between the parents, there's the fact that Evita and Ryan have very different personalities. My quibble is that the adults (well the moms) are just so immature but I guess they have tp be to make this work. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. You know how this is going to end so enjoy the romp.

With its Nantucket seaside cottage setting, this would make a great beach read. Despite the friendly relationship between Evita and Ryan, their families, particularly their mothers, have been archenemies for years. And thanks to a double booking mishap, the Machado and Hatfield family are now forced under one roof.

I loved the huge emphasis on family in this one! While the focus is on Evita and Ryan, there's a large cast of lovable secondary characters, each with their own quirks and struggles. With the Machado family being more boisterous and the Hatfield family more reserved, it was a really fun, comical blend of clashing personalities.

I had a hard time overlooking the feud, though. I appreciated the deeper meaning behind their hatred, and at times I somewhat understood their reasonings, yet it still felt incredibly childish to see two grown women desperate to keep their children apart over something so trivial from the past.

Because of this sole conflict, I would have loved more secluded moments between Evita and Ryan to build up their chemistry even more, but overall it was a cute story!

This was SUCH a fun read! I love a good forbidden romance and this one has a great twist where rival families the Machado's and the Hatfields find themselves both winning a vacation timeshare on Nantucket island.

With a feud dating back to when their mothers were in high school, and no interest in mending fences, the two families have to figure out how to share this house without WWIII breaking out. The only thing the two older women can agree on? Neither wants their children, Evita and Ryan to be together romantically.

I really enjoyed watching Evita and Ryan work together to help their families get along, falling in love along the way. This book is full of family antics, laughs and feel good moments. Highly recommended and good on audio. It was my first book by Ginny Baird and definitely won't be my last!

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for early digital copies in exchange for my honest review.

Oh how I wish I could give this book a glowing review, but unfortunately this book fell flat for me. What could have been a cute, quirky, laugh out loud story (it had its moments), turned into the most irritating read. And I solely blame 2 (actually 4) characters in the book. That and the very odd dialogue and writing style.

I found myself skipping through paragraphs and storylines because it all started to sound so repetitive. And by the last 2 chapters I found myself asking “when will this end?” To be honest the last chapter could have, and probably should have been the Epilogue. Bottom line, it was a very long book about adults acting very childish - and for no good reason - and the grown children that acted like the teenage kids their parents still saw them as.

I also found that too much effort was put into reiterating the strained relationships between the main characters Evita and Ryan’s mothers and not enough effort on really developing their growing relationship, aside from how heated Evita’s face got every time Ryan look at, smiled at, kissed her.

This book has a really good premise and great potential to be a great book, but could use some work on the dialogue, writing style and character building.
I’ll say that the author did hit it out of the ballpark when writing all the siblings. Those were some great characters.

Thank You NetGalley for the early read.

“Call it destiny or karma or anything you want. I just know that we’re meant to be together. So, beautiful—”

Let’s start by saying I absolutely fell in love with this book. It’s a Romeo and Juliet type of book. You know the kind of story when you love someone but it’s like a forbidden fruit. Love that is forbidden. Enter the Machado’s and the Hatfield’s. Two families that hate each other for a misunderstanding that happens to the mothers when they were younger.

Now imagine, you having a crush on a person but you couldn’t act on those feelings because both of your mothers forbid you from even speaking to that person. They forbid you from even being near them. What do you do? What could you do ? Nothing. Absolutely nothing. That’s what happens to both Evita and Ryan. You wanna know more you have to read and find out.

It’s the Machados vs the Hatfields. But at the end love conquers it all.

Right Girl, Wrong Side is ridiculous, over the top, but was so much fun to read! Seriously the perfect lighthearted binge read!

- Second chance
- Friends to lovers
- Multicultural romance
- Professor and flower shop owner
- Unrequited love (childhood secret crushes)
- Rival families
- Slow burn

Right Girl, Wrong Side follows Evita and Ryan during a summer break on Nantucket. The pair knew each other as children, but their mums are business rivals and refused to let them date. Now, they're stuck sharing a luxuy rental house for a week.

While their mums and families bring a lot of drama, over the week the pair grow closer as they reconnect. But will things turn out differently this time?

I really liked Evita and Ryan and the Nantucket setting. I thought they had great chemistry and I appreciated the slow-burn as they became reacquainted with one another.

However, the feuding between the mothers became tiresome and quite annoying after a while. I wish it had resolved sooner as I felt it just dragged on and took away from the romance.

This book wasn't for me. I found the rivalry between the mums a bit ridiculous and they were just too immature about it. The writing style also wasn't really my favourite. There was a lot of description and switching between characters. It was slow to get going and I ended up skimming bits and didn't feel like I was missing anything. I liked the sound of rival families but it just didn't hit the spot for me

Forbidden romance, vacation mix ups, a little family drama, and some comedy.

Evita and Ryan both moms have been feuding with each other since they were in high school. However, Evita and Ryan were in high school they both had crushes on each other they both thought were unrequited. After a silent auction bid goes wrong and both family end up at the same vacation house at the same time, what can go wrong.

This was a quick and easy clean romance. I really enjoyed the dual pov. I wish however, when switching the pov back and forth the author would put the characters name in bold like other authors do to signal a character change.

Thank you to NetGalley and Sourcebooks Casablanca for the eARC in exchange for an honest review of this book!

I definitely fell victim to judging a book by the cover when I requested this one, going in blind by not reading the synopsis. When I started reading and realizing that this would be a forced proximity, second chance romance I was super excited, but sadly it didn't live up to my hopes and expectations. The premise and the idea for the book was cute, the two families being in the same vacation house for a week and a chance to rectify the mothers' long-lived feud, and I feel maybe if it were tweaked a little I could have liked it more. Ryan and Evita's budding romance was cute and the couple flashbacks that were slipped in made for a cute story, but aside from that it was really drawn out. The dialogue was a little odd and the mother's feuding was really overdone by the end, and then all that lead-up and we didn't even get to hear how it was resolved.

All in all, it was a cute premise and a quick and easy read, but not a new favorite for me!

Right Girl, Wrong Side is a humourous contemporary retelling of The Hatfields vs The McCoys battle of two feuding families and one couple in love. I really enjoyed it.

I love a good family drama in my romance novels and this one does not disappoint. On the surface, these two families appear to have nothing in common. But when we learn of the history of the interfamily dispute, it is revealed that they may have more in common than what first meets the eye.

Evita Machado is a successful flower shop owner who travels with her family to Nantucket for a week of peace and tranquillity. In addition to her business she hopes to build a community garden. She’s recently broken up with her long-term boyfriend and hasn’t given much thought to dating again. Evita’s Mom had been the successful bidder in a silent auction of a week’s stay in a home and the family was looking forward to making great memories. What they didn’t expect is that the Hatfields had also won the same auction and were excited about their week away.

Evita and Hatfield’s son Ryan had mutual crushes on one another in high school. They couldn’t act on their feelings because their mothers had a history of their own. Ryan is a successful teacher with a passion for make a difference with high risk children. Could this be fate stepping in to allow this couple a second chance at love?

The story makes for a light-hearted, highly entertaining read. The characters are likeable and interesting. I enjoyed the romance that builds between Evita and Ryan as they try and escape their mother’s rivalry. The family game night was particularly enjoyable and reminiscent of my own extended family.

I highly recommend Right Girl, Wrong Side to those that enjoy romance.

I received an ARC from the publisher, but the thoughts and opinions expressed here are my own.

A big thank you to Ginny Baird, Sourcebooks Casablanca, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest review. Right Girl, Wrong Side comes out March 28, 2023.

Evita Machado had accomplished her goal of owning and managing her own flower shop, she has been busy for a while and cannot wait to go on her upcoming family vacation to Nantucket. To bad when she and her family get to the rental house that they won in an auction they find out that another family won as well due to a communication error. It would have been fine except the other family is one that the Machados have been in a 40 year rivalry, the Hatfields. What even complicates the situation more is that Ryan (one of the Hatfields) was Evita's highschool crush. What she doesnt know is that Evita was Ryans highschool crush as well, and due to the animosity between the two families neither one of them ever told each other. Now over the course of stolen bike rides, beach walks and the stress of trying to get their families to get along the two will have to figure out if they are meant to have a bright future or if they are indead star-crossed lovers.

This book was such a quick, fun and easy read. It was jammed packed with humor, warmth and love. Both Evita and Ryan were such sweet charcaters, they were always so supportive of each other. You could feel how much the two loved their families, even with the pressure that their parents put on them. I really like the other side characters, it really felt a little hectic at points almost like actually being on a family trip with children. Honestly I thought it was just such a sweet read about family and love, so if that is what you are looking for please read Right Girl, Wrong Side!

**3.5 STARS**

I thought this book cover looked really cute and the synopsis sounded like it would make for a good rom-com. This is what I thought:

+ Two families, two mom’s that hate each other, and two people who used to be close in high school are reunited accidentally in this book. They try to make the best of their vacation week by sharing one house and it’s almost a disaster. It’s definitely the type of book I was reading to the end to see what kind of chaos ensue and I was not disappointed.

+ Evita and Ryan was the level-headed ones of their families. Evita comes from a big, loud, tight-knit family and Ryan comes from a small, not so close, quiet family. Those two families clash but it’s mostly because of the mothers who have it out for one another due to a high school feud of their own! I loved Evita’s brothers and their families Talk about chaos, but I relate all too well.

+ The romance between Evita and Ryan is really sweet. They were good friends in high school, both crushing on one another without the other knowing. But it seems like the stars have aligned, or good timing, because both of them are free to date one another now, if they want to pursue it. And they do. This is a sweet romance, all we get is some kisses between them, nothing more but I think it works.

+ I love the theme of family in this story. Evita’s family is more tighter, but she still had to beg her mom to back off and let her be independent when it comes to wanting to hang out with Ryan. As for Ryan he had to have a major family meeting with his. But in the end it’s a very happy ending.

~ The mom’s are basically the ones acting like petty young girls, but I thought it was funny. I’m just glad they finally acted adult enough to bury the hatchet by the end.

Tropes: one house, rival families

Why you should read it:
*you want a sweet romance, two families under one house with lots of chaos, but a very happy ending

Why you might not want to read it:
*the moms are a bit petty, and fought over the silliest things

My Thoughts:

I thought this was a cute story and I loved seeing how different the two families were and how they warmed up to one another by the end. It does have two moms arguing about the smallest things but that’s as far as the drama goes in the story. Overall it was funny, and the romance was really sweet. I look forward to reading more books from this author.
