I dnf'd this one as I just could not get into this. Something about it just didn't click with me and although it was a short book. I couldn't bring myself to keep up with it.
I immediately got bad vibes at the start when the main character's boyfriend was unsupportive and seemed to be controlling (the fact she wouldn't go to her male friend's house to help set up a party early because the boyfriend wouldn't like it). It just felt like it would be toxic and not my vibe and maybe she dumps that guy and realises he was shit but I didn't care enough to find out.

"Midnight Repeat" by Dani McLean left me somewhat bored and uninterested in the outcome. While the premise held potential interest, the execution could have captivated my attention throughout the story.

The pacing contributed to the lack of engagement, as the plot progression felt slow or lacked the necessary twists to keep me invested. While potentially intriguing, the characters may have yet to be developed or explored enough to create a strong connection.

The outcome, unfortunately, did not offer the satisfaction or excitement I was hoping for. The storyline or its resolution may not have resonated with my personal preferences in storytelling.

While "Midnight Repeat" may not have resonated with me, others with different tastes may find elements in the book that appeal to them. Preferences in pacing and storytelling style vary, so others might discover aspects of the novel that align better with their reading preferences.

Midnight, Repeated was a great read following a woman stuck in a time loop on New Year's Eve.

At twenty-five, Lauree Miller still doesn't know what she wants out of life but she can't keep daydreaming of a future with her best friend's brother. As the new year looms on the horizon, Lauree resolves to make this the year she finally lets go of the past and grows up. But when she wakes up the next day, it's still December 31st. And then it happens again. And again. Stuck in a time loop, Lauree realizes she may finally have the chance to take the risks she's been too afraid to take in real life.

The premise of Midnight, Repeated sounded interesting as I really enjoy the movie Groundhog Day so I was curious to see how that would translate to book form. The book starts out with Lauree getting ready to attend a New Year's Eve party hosted by Max, her best friend's brother. We follow her until midnight before the book cuts to Lauree waking up the next day not realizing she's living the same day again. It was interesting watching her realize she's in a time loop and it initially goes how you would expect with Lauree taking risks and doing whatever she wants since everything resets the next day. After a while that starts to get old and Lauree decides to use this time to figure out what it is she wants out of life. She takes up several new hobbies and gets the opportunity to try things over and over until she gets them right. Ultimately Lauree is in this time loop for six months and I liked how the author chose to handle the passing of time.

During this time Lauree is working out her feelings for Max which is difficult to do as any conversations she has with him, he forgets when the day resets. Personally I thought it was obvious right from the start that Max had feelings for Lauree but because of the pair's history she doesn't see it. I do feel like we didn't get to know Max that well and I wish we had gotten more time to know him. The pair's romance develops slowly over the course of the book and I liked how that went. I will say there weren't many steamy scenes until near the end and I would have liked more of those.

Overall Midnight, Repeated was a ton of fun and I really enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this one if you're looking for a unique read.

This premise sounded so good, but sadly didn’t work for me. The MC actually gets stuck re-living the same day for the equivalent of about six months, but we only see a tiny portion of that in this novella. Then the way that the cycle finally breaks and the book ends just didn’t sit right with me.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for my chance to review.

When I had initially signed up for this ARC, I didn't realize it was a novella. I am glad it was because I do feel the time-loop trope can feel a bit prolonged and I am thankful this didn't feel that way. I usually am very picky with my friends-to-lovers but I think the trope was done well. This was also the first book I have read by the author. Overall, this was an extremely fast-paced, fun read.

Thank you, Netgalley, for the ARC!

Look at this cover!

I should probably start catching up on my ARCs … and I do love some timeloop plots so here we are. Maybe if they weren’t so stressful and freaky, I would love to experience one.

Thank god for the counts on the repeats.

This was really quick. I liked seeing Lauree basically take charge of her life and realize what’s wrong with it, despite this timeloop being in her way. But without it, she would’ve ended up living some life she didn’t want so maybe timeloops are worth it.

I don’t like reading the best friend’s brother trope (aka it’s not one I go for and usually steer away from if it’s in the synopsis), but I really liked Lauree and Max’s chemistry and bonding throughout the novella. I would’ve read a whole novel of them.

I’m definitely checking out the rest of the series to see what other movie magic will be explored.

A short, cute book that I quite enjoyed. I didn't realise it was a novella when I requested it, and the book makes me want to read more novellas. The story is a time loop romance in New Year's Eve, and at some point even I feel frustrated for the character because the loop goes quite some time - imagine living again and again the same day. But I think Lauree gets used to it pretty quickly, and I love the things she does during the loop.

This fast paced novella was super engaging and dun to read. I loved the sweet friends to lovers romance and the main character was super relatable. I feel like this would have been a more gratifying read as a full novel but I enjoyed this either way!

Not being able to read and review this back in 2022 is decreasing my % by marking as will not be giving feedback so I'm filling this in.
I'm sorry I never got to it but I was interested just didn't have the time and I've heard great things since it's release too!

This is one of those liked but didn't love and didn't really like books. I am a sucker for any type of book that ends up slightly outside the parameters of reality. I loved Palm Springs on Hulu so I kinda felt like I would like this and in theory I did. It was an interesting premise and I never at any point out right hated it but it defiantly could have been move. Also without spoiling the plot I hate how the time loop was broken. It felt cheesy and forced in a weird way. Regardless I will still recommend this book and read future books by this author. I think Dani went big for this book, which I respect immensely.

This was a nice book to read, short and sweet. I like the writing and the characters development, though I did struggle a bit with the pacing.

Thank you to the publisher for kindly providing me with an ARC via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

Midnight, Repeated is a fun homage to peak rom-com era films. It's friends to lovers + neighbours + coffee shop trope goodness all rolled into one time loop adventure.

Max and Lauree's relationship was so soft and special, I was shipping them from page one. A delightful read you'll want to devour in one sitting, and only partly because they've got to seriously earn their steamy scene (side note: how is Dani so awesome at writing these). But mostly because you want to find out all the shenanigans Lauree gets up to, and see her grow with every new New Year’s Eve.

Lauree Miller is about to have the night of her live...again and again. She's 25 and knows what she should want: serious job, serious boyfriend, being able to cook. She needs to stop pining over her best friend's brother Max. Lauree makes a New Year's resolution to finally let go of the past and grow up. But when she wakes up it's December 31st all over again.
This was a sweet friends to lovers story and the main character Lauree is very relatable. My only issue with the book is that it's a novella and I wish it had been a full length book. I highly recommend it. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the advanced copy.

This was such a cute read! Loved how she was always reliving the same day. We can see her growth and accompany while she discovers herself. Such a well written novella and the love interest was cute 😍

I love a time loop, and this one was done so well. I loved watching Lauree work for what she wants! Max was a delight!

I can’t wait to see what Dani has next!

I saved this for the end of the year to match my mood, but I would have DNFd this if it hadn't been a novella. And I wish I had, because I especially hated the ending.

As a whole, I didn't enjoy this story, because it made the timeloop trope feel completely mundane in a really boring way. It took all of the fun right out of it.

But the ending really cemented my dislike, because the thing that gets the MC out of her timeloop is when she has sex with the love interest. Confessing their love wasn't enough, a kiss wasn't enough, talking through their pasts and communicating wasn't enough, they had to have sex for the ~magic~, I guess. I completely dislike this message as an asexual person - a romance or relationship are not more real if you add sex to them, and their validity shouldn't hinge on sex.

Midnight, Repeated is a fast paced novella centred around our leading lady Lauree Miller. It is New Year’s Eve and Lauree is determined to make next year her year despite the 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘴𝘩𝘪𝘵, 𝘥𝘪𝘧𝘧𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳 banner her friend Max insists on hanging at his NYE party. She is stuck on in a low-level job she has little interest in, her boyfriend of 3 years has yet to pop the question but likes to remind her she needs to find some motivation to finally make something of herself. To dull the pain she has a couple more drinks than she should but when she wakes up the next morning she has no sign of a hangover. Actually everything is exactly as it was – yesterday!

Lauree is stuck in a time loop, December 31st keeps repeating itself and it doesn’t take many repeats for her to realize her boyfriend is never going to propose and she needs to find a job she is passionate about, the trouble is what does she want? Being a novella this book is fast paced but I thought Laurees character development was well done. I liked how we sometimes jumped forward a few repeats and the whole day wasn’t included in each repeat to keep the story moving and make it less repetitive than I have seen in other books with time loops.

It is obvious from the first page Lauree has it bad for her BFFs older brother who just happens to be her next door neighbour. It is easy to tell them both have feelings for each other but there is clearly some miscommunication which has kept them apart. In part I was frustrated by this as it seemed repetitive but it reminds me of the movie 50 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘋𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘴 if only Lauree could leave notes for Max to help him catch up.

I would have loved to know more about their history, how Lauree developed such strong feelings for Max that she was unable to move on for a decade. Why was Max so reluctant to give them a try when they were younger and what kept him from giving it a try when they ended up living beside each other. While it was a very enjoyable novella I would love a full length book to dive in a big deeper and really get to know these characters.
