My 3rd book by Sarah Clarke and she never disappoints, another great psychological thriller!

Beth has carved out a lovely life for herself far away from her poverty-stricken roots…. She now has a lovely husband, Simon, two young daughters, Martha and Ava and a beautiful house in a sought-out area of London. However, despite all this Beth just can’t escape her past and when one night she is walking home after a girl’s night out she comes across a collapsed homeless man with a needle sticking out of his arm. She can’t just walk on by and so calls for help, what she doesn’t realise is that this small act of kindness is destined to bring her whole perfect life crashing down around her ears and her perfectly curated existence is about to be shattered into pieces! With a history as dark as Beth’s she would prefer to keep it under wraps especially from Simon and all the friends, she has made in her affluent neighbourhood she lives in but lies and secrets always have a habit of coming out and Beth’s are no different.

This was a great read! I have to admit that I didn’t like any of the characters but that didn’t spoil the storyline for me, and I was very intrigued to see that behind closed doors Beth wasn’t at all how she was perceived to be, by her friends and even her own husband. The beginning was a bit of a slow burn setting the scene but by halfway things had moved up a pace and I was thoroughly enjoying reading about all the characters. Sarah Clarke knows how to deliver an insanely good twist and she did just that in this book, I was shocked- which is fabulous. In fact, I had decided this book was solid 4 star but the magnificent twist without a doubt elevated it to a 5 star read.

Excellent Sarah Clarke and I really recommend this one for anyone who loves psychological thrillers, you will not be disappointed!

Thank you to NetGalley, Sarah Clarke and HQ Publishing my advanced reading copy. Out now.

This is such a suspenseful read that's full of tension. It's also very much a slow burner with quite a slow middle section. The end is explosive though.

This is my first book by Sarah Clarke and I'm not gonna lie at first I thought it was a little slow and wondered if I'd finish it but am I glad I did! I started to get a few hints that things may not be what they seem. Then there are some twists and secrets start getting revealed and I couldn't put it down until the end. And a great ending it was! I would definitely recommend My Perfect Friend and I'm now intrigued enough to go check out Sarah Clarke's other books!

Beth has a seemingly perfect life - a beautiful house, husband, and two daughters. One night, she is thrust into the limelight after finding a homeless man who overdosed. Beth's old friend, Kat, finds the article online. Things ended poorly between Beth and Kat. Kat introduces herself to Beth, as a stranger. Beth has no idea Kat is her former best friend. There is some unfinished business between the two women. The plot thickens and we learn that both women have secrets they are hiding.

Overall, this novel was just okay. The beginning and end were fairly exciting, but I found parts in the middle really dragged on. I did not really care for any of the characters. The ending was exciting and quick-paced, which is how I wish the rest of the book was carried out.

Thank you HQ, HQ Digital, and NetGalley for the copy in exchange for an honest review. (forgot to write a review when I finished reading this one!)

I was really looking forward to the storyline and the twists were some I didn't see coming, but there was so many characters that I was confused and struggling to keep it in order to fully grasp the story.

‘My Perfect Friend’ is the latest book by Sarah Clarke.

Beth has the perfect life. She has constructed it carefully over the last eighteen years. But one night she makes a choice that risks everything. When Kat sees an article about that night online, buried memories begin to surface. She and Beth were friends once. Things ended badly then, but now she has a chance to make things right. Kat introduces herself to Beth. Not as her old friend, but as a stranger. Beth has no idea Kat isn’t who she says she is. But then neither is Beth.

If you like twisty thrillers, then ‘My Perfect Friend’ is a must read. It’s packed with suspense, intrigue and dislikable characters.

After trying to save a man from death, Beth becomes a neighbourhood hero and finds herself in the spotlight and the subject of a disgruntled homeless man who’s convinced that he killed her friend. Beth’s life is in turmoil until a dog Walker called Kat comes into her life and helps her with the chaos, but unknown to her, Kat is from her past and knows all about Beth before she became the perfect mother and figure.

This story is one of best thrillers I’ve read in a while. With a combination of flawed characters and a twisty plot that made for compulsive reading. The various narratives from Beth, Kat and Mark, the homeless man who hates Beth all pull the reader in with their different narratives and perspectives so the reader is unsure of who to believe. There is also the inclusion of past moments which really help set the scene of the story and really the story and characters a lot more depth. Beth is a complex character that I initially felt sympathetic towards but as the story progressed, we see a side to her that is cold and calculated as she does all she can to maintain her perfect life facade.

Gripping from the first page, ‘The Perfect Friend’ is a cleverly weaved story, filled with engaging and tense moments that made the book impossible to put down.

You can buy ‘My Perfect Friend’ from Amazon and is available to buy from good bookshops.

This is a fantastic psychological thriller one of my favorites of the year. I was left questioning everyone and their motives, every time I thought i knew what was happening the rug was pulled with a new crazy twist. The multiple POVs made this book wonderfully complex and I was pulled in instantly. Highly recommend if you like a dark immersive thriller.

I’ve read and enjoyed Sarah’s books in the past so I was looking forward to this one, it didn’t disappoint. Twists and turns a plenty. Loved the fact it was from multiple characters points of views and also the dual timeline within the story. Highly recommend this book.

I enjoyed the twists and turns in this book, I like the style of writing and had me guessing til the very end. The story is told from different POV and also switches timeline. It was fun waiting for all the pieces of the puzzle slowly come together

Loved this book.

Excellent psychological thriller with characters that are built well enough for you to care.

The premise is unusual but not too far fetched so has a realness to it that books like this don’t always achieve.

Great read.

This is a psychological thriller, it was twisty, it was clever, one of the characters is not what she seemed to be but is that too little, too late? For me I felt bombarded by the final final twists which made it a touch too long, but regardless an enjoyable read.
