Was this book slightly gross? Yes, what else can you expect when everything is literally made out of dead bodies? But was it hot and original? Also yes.
This was a story that felt familiar yet was truly original and kept me wanting to keep listening. The dual narration was great, and both voice actors did an amazing job. The characters were captivating and the heat was off the roof!!! I just wished it was edited a bit more since it repeats itself quite a bit but not enough to make me dislike it. I cannot wait to read book 2.

King of Flesh and Bone A Dark Fantasy Romance by Liv Zander was good! I was weary because dark romance has a line I don’t normally cross but I’ve wanted to read this for a while.
I chose to listen to this book on audio and LOVED it! It’s narrated by Auri Alden and Gregory Salinas. They were awesome.
I couldn’t help but succumb to the world this gorgeous King lived in. It definitely had its difficult moments but it was necessary for me to understand him. I really liked the world building and I couldn’t put it down. It ends on a cliffhanger and I’m not upset. That’s a good thing. I highly suggest listening to this if you like dark romance.

WOW!!! This is such a great listen! I was drawn in in the first few pages! The narraters did an amazing job being this story to life! This book is deliciously dark, dirty, and heart aching sweet.
There’s so much to say but to do so is to give it all away. So I say read it. No, devour it!

TWs: gore, body horror, SA, assault, abuse, imprisonment, misogyny
I first heard about this book through booktok as the one where he breaks her legs so she can't run away from him... so you should already know going in that this is going to be very dark. If you can't handle the TWs mentioned above, that's more than okay, just turn away now. If you can... well strap in because it's a wild ride.
From the very first page we get some good old gore and body horror. I'm not squeamish but the way Zander describes these events managed to get me to scrunch my nose and feel unsettled (which in this case is a good thing since that was the author's intention).
I've seen some people label this book as dub-con, but no it's very clear that the FMC doesn't want to engage in a sexual relationship from the get-go with the MMC but it's forced on her regardless, so yes there are graphic depictions of rape. Proceed with caution, please.
It wasn't all smut. A plot was hinted at in the first 3rd, lost in the middle 3rd, and then picked back up in the the last 3rd. Gotta admit I was considering DNFing during the middle because of how bored I got, but the last part of the book was intriguing enough to keep me going and have me wanting to pick up the sequel just to see what happens.

I loved this PNR audiobook! The narrators gave an awesome performance. The voices were so easy to listen to. This story is different than anything I have read or listened to in a long time. The plot is addictive and twisted. The characters are so unique and interesting, you won’t want to stop listening. I highly recommend this story.

The King of Flesh and Bone is a dark romance. Dark romance deals with all sorts of themes that are "dark" in nature. Violence, death, dismemberment. NC & CNC seggual acts of all kinds. Mind control... The list goes on. If this is not your bag, don't consume the material. If it is, read on. You are in for a serious treat. This book is so well written I had to stop many times just to ruminate over the flow of a sentence. And not in the overly rich, purple-prose sense. The worldbuilding and how the pale kingdom comes to be is fantastic and again, at times I found myself pausing in order to fully appreciate the image Zander's words created in my mind. The characters are in a word; consistent. The anti-hero/villain Enoch is beautiful, dazzling and brilliant, while being completely utterly deplorable and selfishly villainous to his core. The Heroine starts out as a weak wallflower but we get to watch her slow, painful transformation. I am hopeful that her arc in the second book will continue to show strength and this resilient growth. I gave it four stars because even though the writing was superb, and for anyone looking for dark romance, it is probably one of the darkest I've ever read, I was left wanting more. Wanting more in terms of growth from the heroine and more from the support systems that both Enoch and she had.

This is very well written & narrated!

This isn’t what I expected. I was a bit surprised by some of the content but ended up really looking forward to the 2nd book in this two-book story.

Ada is human. Enosh is not.

Ada hates Enosh (understandably) & tries to run away and misbehaves. She’s logical & a bit snarky.

Enosh wants to be loved but has a terrible way of looking for it as he enjoys punishing Ada. (TW!)

These two seem to be moving towards a meeting of the minds (playing catch up from where they started) but there might be yet another set back.

Good dialog. Ada is a great character & I want to see where it goes from that cliff hanger.

So I'm still confused what the plot is of this book especially in the beginning. Then the more I got through the story, still nothing much was added. I don't even see the build up of Enosh wanting Ada so that was super rushed. This book needed some serious world building. Im not sure if I'll be back for the next part.

Narrators Auri Alden; Gregory Salinas did a great job. I really loved their narrations.

I received this audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this unbiased review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I want to start by saying I like the premise and overall story of this book. And I typically like dark romance novels however I really didn’t like the non-consensual start of their relationship. Therefore I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone I know.

It’s my fault. I should know romance is not my thing.

This was just gross for me. I hated the way the king harassed and assault the main character.

It ain’t sexy.

No one loves a slightly cruel, achingly hot Death Daddy who has a soft spot for average mortal/human women more then me and this ticked those boxes. Enemies to lovers, forced proximity, marriage and breeding. The smut was great. TW there is questionable to no consent, which I’m really not a fan in real life but in books I’m pretty much ok with… I don’t know what that says about me. This was also a very dark gothic macabre environment (it is an underworld after all) with her dresses being made out bits from bones and dead things, as well as everything else like utensils, goblets, decor, etc. But to be honest I really dug all the dark creepiness. It really didn’t get interesting or much of a plot until like 75% in, hence the 3 stars. But the narrators were fantastic.

2.5⭐️I bumped it up a little because I loved the audio of this book! The audio narrators were really great. I loved their different accents and all the feeling that they put into their readings! The book itself fell a little flat for me. I was expecting the spice to be hotter.. or maybe kinkier is a better word? I’m not sure but it didn’t get me to excited either way. I didn’t connect with either of the main characters. I felt like we didn’t get to know Ada much besides that she had a rough life. I was confused for the first 15% of this book. I didn’t understand what was flying! Enosh the MC instantly fell in love with Ada with no explanation of what he likes about her besides that she’s warm. I think the world itself and the concept are really interesting but I’m just not invested enough in the characters to pick up the next book.

King of Flesh and Bone is not for the faint of heart or the short of time. I will say it's important to go into this book with the same mentality you would when watching Game of Thrones or American Horror Story because it's a ~dark~ romance. For Enoch, I can't even call him morally grey, more like morally charcoal, but for a dude that's cold as ice he's also hot as hell.
I genuinely wasn't able to put it down, the entire time I was reading I kept thinking "Oh my god that is so messed up, tell me more", and then suddenly my entire day was gone.
The narration was also really well done in my opinion. I think the narrators they chose were perfect for the characters.

Thank you NetGalley and publishers for this audiobook for an honest review.

Im not sure if I like it or if I hate it.. This was so so dark and I didnt really expect that. Dark beauty and the beast vibes to this story with no fairytale. This was fast-paced but slow in a couple parts. The narration was good. It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be (maybe because of the app). Some of the smutty scenes that was narrated though...(the dirty talk) I literally chuckled at. The cliffhanger ending has definitely intrigued me to want to read the next book.
