In 2019 my health started going down hill and I didn't take into consideration what that would mean for my book reviewing. Sadly, I've been trying to play catch up for years and it's been affecting my ability to keep up with present day tasks. So I greatly apologize for this but I am going to clear out all these older review books and focus on present day. I will come back and update this review if I end up reading the book, which is very possible as a lot of these books are still ones I would like to read, I just don't think the pressure looming over me is helpful. Thank you for giving me a chance to early read these books and I am so sorry I wasn't able to provide what was needed.

Creepy and compelling cover: ✅
Dark, gritty and terrifying story: ✅
Right away we stumble into a cold case mystery complete with a skeleton.
The story goes back and forth in time, from Norse settlers to present day.
I also loved that the author used GPR in their story, it’s a science that I find so fascinating!
Favourite Line(s): “Rudolf Schenker’s head bursting out of the glass with forks bent over his eyes?”
Feedback: An eerie story, and really captivating. The only thing I noticed were a few areas where it seemed like sentences got a bit jumbled up. Since I was reading an ARC, I’m sure this will be fixed up before the final copy.
The ending I was a little puzzled by, will there be a sequel?
Thank you to NetGalley, Piqued Publishing, Xpresso Book Tours, and the author DM Gritzmacher for a copy!

I enjoyed this book, loved the two timelines, good characters and pacing. Though it horror it could have been a thriller. This is the first book I've read by this author but not the last.
I received this book from Piqued Publishing and Netgalley for a review.

The Relict by DM Gritzmacher was received directly from the publisher and I chose to review it. I had never read this author before though I will certainly read more of his works. This book grabs the reader from the start and never lets up. I am one to brutally skip over long drawn out conversations in books that will increase the word count but only waste the readers time. There are not many scenes like this in this book. As always I will not go into plot details, other reviewers do that, so the non waste of time review, if you like monster books with some thriller mystery thrown in, give this book a read.
4 Stars

It’s a no for me unfortunately. I tried to get into it but couldn’t. I was really looking for something spooky but it fell flat for me.

A tale that takes us to Vinland where Norsemen and Natives are blighted by a cursed skin-walker. In the present day, a serial killer's victim is found by a student who may be a bit more than he seems.
More thriller-mystery-monster than horror.

Not a fan at all! I didn’t like the flash backs. I feel like the story would be so much better without it. I was so invested in the modern day story and just wanted to skip over the flash backs

Unfortunately I feel as though this book needed several trigger warnings. I found a number of the scenes unbearable to read due to their graphic gore. I Weill say I quite enjoyed the time jumps and the mixing of lore with serial killers. However, I think they could have been melded together a bit better.
