I like the premise of this cookbook. Simple, quick recipes for every day and/or when short on time. I like the tips for substitutions, what freezes well & options to vary the ingredients. However, I feel like this is geared towards families with younger children and for those who have limited cooking experience. The recipes did not seem all that unique to me. Given the travels talked about in the introduction, I hope the author will think about another cookbook with a more international flair.

On a side note, this cookbook was hard to follow because the recipes were split between pages and I had a hard time telling which cooking times, etc. went with which recipe. There were also pages that had just the QR code and color blocks. I don’t know if this is a formatting issue for e-devices but should be looked into for ease of reading & use.

Easy Recipes for Everyday Life by Lauren Allen is a fabulous cookbook for all sizes of families. I love the simple yumminess of the author’s food and how she tries to make things streamlined for busy cooks. The instructions are easy to follow and there are so many tips given along the way. Tastes Better From Scratch Cookbook: Easy Recipes for Everyday Life is a good cookbook for those who want to have classic/basic recipes that are made with wholesome ingredients. The recipes are not necessarily unique or original, but they are made from scratch.

The breakfast section has basics like Buttermilk Pancakes and Overnight Oats. Muffins and Breads yields such tasty offerings as Pumpkin Bread and Perfect Cinnamon Rolls. Dinner recipes include Baked Ziti and Sheet-Pan Sausage and Veggies. Soup has the easy, but delicious Beef Stew and Chicken Noodle Soup. Homemade Salsa and Macaroni Salad are included in Salads and Sides. Finally, Desserts contains such classics as Chocolate Chip Cookies and Pineapple Upside-Down Cake. All of these recipes can be found in other cookbooks or on the internet, but readers who do not have an extensive collection (like I do) might enjoy owning Tastes Better From Scratch.

On the positive side, there are plenty of photographs and well written instructions for each recipe. I can definitely see this cookbook being a hit for children, as the dishes are family friendly.

Disclaimer: I was given an Advanced Reader's Copy by NetGalley and the publisher. The decision to read and review this cookbook was entirely my own.

This cookbook looks absolutely wonderful. I've not had an opportunity make any of the recipes yet but I have a list of many that I look forward to trying. This cook book offers recipes for the entire meal. There are main courses, sides, appetizers, soups, breakfasts, desserts and more. The recipes use ingredients that aren't difficult to find. I also enjoy that there are pictures for many recipes and tips on freezIng, time to prepare, etc.. It's a very user friendly cookbook and one I believe I'll refer to frequently.

Tastes Better from Scratch is a really nice cookbook. I love the title - it is so true! If you make it from scratch you know exactly what is in it. At our house we try to reduce salt and have to eliminate gluten.
The book starts out with How to use the Book and Tips. The Table of Contents includes the page number for each recipe so you can go straight to it. The recipes are divided by Breakfast, Dinner, Bread, Soup & Sides, Salad and Desserts.
The recipes in this cookbook are well laid out and neatly labeled.. There is also information for each recipe on substitution and how to freeze. I love to know ahead of making a recipe if it will freeze. Then I can choose to double it and freeze it. There are also make ahead instructions and variations you can do to the recipe.
Each recipe has a photo of the finished dish. For some reason I love to know what the recipe should look like. Sometimes I will decide what recipe to try based on the photo. The photos are well done and beautiful. Some recipes also have a QR code you can scan for a step by step video of the recipe.
I plan to try the Black Bean Burger recipe. Sandwich recipes are under the dinner category. I am always looking for a healthy soup or salad to try, and there are a bunch in this cookbook.
There are also a list of things to eat with a recipe - if there is a recipe for that item the page number is listed. An example would be Mexican rice with tacos - the page number for the rice is listed. She also tells you to go to her website for more related recipes. There are also alternative cooking methods - slow cooker or instant pot for some recipes.
I have already started using these recipes and also ones on Lauren Allen's website. What a great find!

This beautiful cookbook is perfect for the beginner cook or the mom who needs to get a wholesome meal on the table in a hurry. The recipes are simple, easy to follow, and lean toward family meals. I enjoyed looking over the photography and flipping through this cookbook, and I appreciate the chance to review it.

This book would have been a lifesaver when I was a more inexperienced cook, rushing to feed hungry, growing boys!

Tastes Better From Scratch is a perfect cookbook for beginner cooks or anyone who wants to go back to the basics of cooking to improve. I wish I would have gotten this as a gift when I first got married and was learning how to cook for a family of my own. We get a short introduction to our author, but some may know her from her blogs. There is a very important section at the beginning of the book that explains what tools you will need to make your cooking more successful and easier in the long run. These are not unheard of tools, but are things that perhaps someone who is starting out would not know the difference about. Very cool section.

The cookbook is separated by course, so it's very easy to navigate and find a recipe for a specific meal. The recipes are not fancy or experimental, they are classic items that everyone should know how to cook. The recipes are explained well and the layout is clean and easy to follow. Some of the recipes have a QR code that takes you to a step by step video, which I think is an amazing feature that I have never seen before. Each recipe has a picture of what your dish is supposed to look like, this is a priority for me in any cookbook. Everything looks so delicious and makes you want to try every dish!

Obviously the recipes are all from scratch, which is helpful to boost the confidence of any cook. As you make these recipes you will learn the basics of how other foods are made and can tailor your recipes to your own tastes. This is a great foundational cookbook.

This cookbook has a good variety of foods and recipes. They are straightforward and seem relatively easy. I have only tried a few and they worked out well. I like that Lauren gives add in tips with most of the recipes so they can be changed up a little bit. She also gives hints for freezing any extra you’ve made. There are recipes for a slow cooker but I found myself wishing that she had put in a few recipes for using an air fryer. If you purchase this cookbook I do not recommend the kindle version. I found it difficult to read in the kindle format. If you enjoy making your meals from scratch you may want to check out this cookbook. #netgalley #TastesBetterFromScratchCookbook

This is a cookbook with a layout that includes prep and cook time, as well as some make-ahead and freezer tips. There are some other substitution or make-your-own tips that are useful (although some direct you to her website rather than giving the substitution recipe. This isn't a great resource for me but it would be a good cookbook for someone who is learning to cook. 3.5 stars rounded up.

This is an outstanding cookbook that believes that food tastes better from scratch, a sentiment I agree with.

Here are some of my favorite recipes:

German pancakes
Skinny banana bread
Green Chile chicken enchiladas
Chicken tortilla soup

Everything I made was delicious, and I’m looking forward to trying more recipes. 5 stars

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed as in this review are completely my own.

This book was filled with such yummy looking recipes! I enjoyed the way it was set up and easy to find which section/category you wanted. There were over 100 easy recipes in here and I recommend it! It comes with links to videos as well as pictures of each recipe!

I absolutely cannot wait to try the chocolate cream/ silk pie. With the ingredients used and the picture included, I was practically drooling. Can anybody say deeeee-lish?!

Maybe I’m just obsessed with desserts.

For a cookbook, I give this:

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟/5 stars!

This is an excellent cookbook for beginners, with many simple staple dishes. The format, ingredients required, and instructions are very easy to understand, so there's little to overwhelm someone who isn't as confident in the kitchen. There are some very nice photos of the recipes, which is always inspiring and helpful. As someone who has a large collection of cookbooks and is a bit more experienced, I did long for some more unique recipes to be peppered in with the basics. That being said, this would make a great book for someone who is starting to cook for the first time or someone who just wants an easy and basic cookbook to start their collection.

Absolutely amazing cookbook!!

Positives:
*Pictures with every recipe
* Easy to follow instructions with accessible ingredients

Not so great (imo):
* That cover doesn’t do the inside justice. There were tons of better looking meals inside. While I’m sure the cover meal is delicious, it’s not a looker. The colors are muted.

That’s my only ehh. I’m definitely working my way through this entire book.

This is the kind of cookbook any beginner needs to have on hand or, honestly, anyone who has been cooking a while who needs a refresher or some easy from-scratch recipes. It's organized well, makes cooking easy, and I love the recipes. I highly recommend and appreciate Netgalley, the author, and the publisher for allowing me to read and review.

This is not a cookbook I necessarily needed. I am of an age that growing up if you wanted some of these dishes you had to make them from scratch. But I don’t think the fact that some of the recipes are familiar is the reason this is such a good cookbook. What made it enjoyable was that it matches at least 3 of the most important things for me to buy a cookbook. It’s easy to read and understand. There are many other hints of what to do with a recipe, will it freeze, can I make less, etc. And most importantly, it has wonderful pictures.
