I had the privilege to read this book off of netgalley for my honest review. This book is a teach you to draw book. It teaches you to draw Aqrabumelu, Basilisk, Cockatrice, Dragon, Griffin, Hippocampus, Hydra, Mothman, Phoenix, Unicorn, big foot, mummy, and more. If you are instead in drawing mythical creatures this is the book for you.

I am determined to read every book that Phoebe Im publishes because they are absolutely adorable on top of being fun. Plus, I’m a fan of their artwork and have been following them on Instagram for sometime now. Like their previous book, Cute Chibi Animals, it opens with a short introduction to who Phoebe is before defining chibi for readers. Then there’s a small section on tools one may need and some tips and tricks. I really like this part of the book because I think that there’s always something new to learn when a seasoned artist shares even the most simple tips and tricks to drawing!

Majority of the book is a series of step-by-step instructions on drawing various mythical creatures. I think that the drawings in this book are more complex than the ones featured in the previous book, which is great because it takes people following their drawing books on a journey into more complex drawings. Yes, these are chibi mythical beasts and monsters, but the overall shapes and combinations are more complex and provide more of a challenge on the drawing journey for people learning to draw. I really like that this is the case, but I also don’t think it’s too challenging. I would say that this book is good for middle schoolers and older elementary school kids so that younger kids won’t get too frustrated trying to keep up with some of the more complex drawings introduced.

Absolutely adorable, easy to follow directions for developing drawing skills. I got the ebook on my phone and mirrored my screen to my TV, so my daughters and I could all draw together, a great family time.

I had already read the previous drawing book by Phoebe Im and I really loved it, so it was with eagerness that I downloaded this book.
Once again, I loved it. The drawings are really cute and the steps are well thought. Nothing is too difficult to draw here.
I recommend it to everyone who wants to learn to draw cute chibli

The book was pretty illustrative on how to draw each one of these creatures, but as an artist myself I found it a little bit slow in the process, and I noticed that I was skipping the process at first and instead, going for the end result and then coming back to the beginning. Also, I would have liked more about the proportions for the characters to look chibi. It does mention “large heads and small bodies” but I think it would have been better to indicate that these characters have around two and a half heads, and what that means. I think that my main goal when reading this book was to understand other art styles at their core so I can use this knowledge in the future, but I was thinking “what if I want to draw any of these creatures in different poses than the ones in the book?”
I also found that in pag. 93, the image in step 14 was the same in step 12.
All in all, it was absolutely compelling to look at other artists' drawing process. The creatures are extremely cute, and I think it is a really good guide for people who don’t have much knowledge in drawing. The facts in some of the creatures were some fun extra content.

This was a cute drawing book that focused on mythical characters rather than the ordinary objects we usually see associated with Kawaii or Chibi. They were cute drawings with instructions for each. Not super detailed and you needed to have some idea what you were doing to start out but overall a cute book for anyone who loves cute fantasy.

Thank you to Quarto Publishing Group and NetGalley for sending me this books.

I've always love drawing by with university I haven't had time to really sit down and do it. So when I saw this book available, I was like "Yes this is for me!" Add to the fact that I was doing my bullet journal for october it was perfect timing.

I drew some of them and I really liked it !
Negative point though is that the hands are a bit hard to draw and I would have liked a bit more explanation on how to proceed. Another one, would be that I could only open the file on my phone and the app wouldn't let me zoom in . Therefore some of the details were hard to see, but that only partains to me.

In the end I would give this book 5 stars.

I loved this book! Although I feel you need a minimum of knowledge to fully take advantage, the steps are easy to follow and the drawing guides are super helpful. The ideas presented are extremely cute. I enjoyed a lot and did several of the ideas already. Helpful to develop skills when drawing.

This is a cute little drawing book for adults or older kids who want to draw chibi creatures. There’s a large variety like a yeti, a dragon, a fairy and a mummy. It uses the technique of drawing shapes in pencil and then adding and erasing before tracing over the finished drawing in pen.

For some reason I wasn’t that drawn to most of the characters. Almost all of them are drawn so they look like their eyes are closed like 😌 and the few with open eyes just had big black blank eyes instead of pupils or anything to give them character. The one on the cover is successful but most of the others just seemed off to me, like they were incredibly weirdly happy but asleep. There are a lot of steps and details for most of the bodies too, despite the overly simple eyes. Perhaps I’m just not a chibi person? I looked online for other chibi mythical creatures and most of them did have normal eyes though. Perhaps the author just likes the simplicity of this type.

In any case, it’s a well done book with lots of variety and great step by step instructions.

I read a temporary digital arc of this book for review.

Stop being so cute! Why is this so cute?! Why are you so cute?!

Tell me why this one is too cute!

Okay. You get it. And I get it that this guidebook is so well done! Of all the chibi guidebooks I have read so far (and have been unsuccessful in drawing one... Disastrous one that was during the trial!), I find this one quite easy and fun to follow.

The guide is basic with basic what to dos and what to avoid.

The confidence in me during and after I read this chibi drawing guidebook:

I can draw with ball point pens. And I did try out one. And heck yes, I did! And it looked much, much better than the disaster that happened months ago.

I love the details. I love the reference pages filled with points to note.

Thank you, Quarto Publishing Group -Rock Point, for the advance reading copy.

Lucky are those who gets to get this book!

It is so freaking cute and I just cannot get over it.

I think I have reviewed most of this series of books and have relatively little new to say.
I love them. Whether its kittens or Birds or beast, these Chibi drawing books are well worth the money.
They are always easy to draw, and easy to copy with excellent step-by-step tutorials and ways that you can personalise them to your own taste.
I wish this one had been out last year because my yearly journal was cryptid based and It would have been so much easier with these adorable creatures to doodle on the sides of the journal.
There are some unusual mythical beasts that I hadn't heard of before such as the Catoblepas and Ophiotaurus which was really cool.
As always loved it!
