I won't pretend that I am new to creating art but have never really gone into chibi characters but couldn't resist an opportunity to get my hands on anything mythical or folklorey. The book itself is absolutely full to the brim of beautiful and cute monters.

The books is well laid out and the instructions are simple enough that even beginner artists can get the foundations of this style down.

I really enjoyed this how-to-draw book. The creatures and monsters were adorable and they had some fun facts about most of them throughout the book. The book also had some drawing and coloring tips at the beginning, which I thought was great.

I also think this book is easier to follow than other how-to-draw books, though I have some decent drawing experience so I can't say for certain how well someone with little to no drawing experience would do. I tried drawing some of the monsters myself and they turned out pretty well thanks to how easy the guides were to follow.

All in all, I think this is a fun drawing book and would make a great gift to a friend or family member who loves to draw.

Thanks to NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group - Rock Point for the digital ARC!

Thank you to Netgalley for providing me with an ARC to review.

5 stars!

Wow! Okay.

As I’ve reviewed some art / drawing before, some have had their share of a not enough step by steps or details or too much that makes it confusing to follow.

But this, this book is perfection. It has the whole step-by-step for the reader to follow and draw along with. All steps are simple and easy to follow that makes drawing cute characters actually fun. Not only does it have many step-by-step tutorials how to complete a character but it also has a whole selection of different type of creatures, monsters, magical beats that you could think of.

AND to add a little extra, there are even some facts about the mythical beasts/creatures.

I really recommend this for those who are looking to get into drawing chin I characters. The poses and facial expression for each character gives it’s own sense of cuteness. The steps are really easy to follow and have a lot of good tips and suggestions for the reader to use and learn from.

Cute Chibi Mythical Beasts & Magical Monstera
4.5 Stars

I like the wide variety of mythical and magical chibi creatures covered in this book. This book would be a great birthday gift or stocking stuffer for the holidays. There're a lot of cute creatures to draw, new critters to design, and enough educational information to keep a child/ teen occupied for a long weekend, school break, or a long drive.

This artist is new to me, but the techniques she uses throughout this book have been around for years: drawing using basic shapes, set-by-step instructions with photos, and completed illustrations. I loved the 60 inspirational chibi's, and the opportunity to create something uniquely my own. My daughter (14 years) and I spent a Sunday afternoon doodling and water coloring a sketchbook spread. It was very relaxing.

Overall, my daughter and I enjoyed this book. The wide variety of different characters really makes this book shine! Thank you, NetGalley and Quarto Publishing Group, for an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

As someone with little drawing experience, I found the book to be fairly easy to follow as it lays out simple step-by-step instructions for each creature you are attempting to draw.

I thought that the variety of creatures included was good, although a little overwhelming to look through the contents as a result of this.

I would have liked to have seen an example picked out as the most beginner-friendly as an introduction, as I think this would help boost the confidence of beginners engaging with this book.

Overall, I would really recommend this for all abilities of those interested in drawing mythical/magical creatures, as it is a cute and educational book.

Mythical Beasts and Magical Monsters are my favorites among fantasy creature in stories. Make them in chibi style? I am swooning... Author is new name for me, but I will start following her work progress from now. This book is perfect and hooked me since I saw the cover.

Cute Chibi Mythical Beast and Magical Monsters is an excellent guide for beginner to learn drawing cute characters from basic shapes. This is a source to learn when you focus on the essential how to make your design look cute or extra cute. In Japanesse chibi can refer to small person, small animal, and kid shape. Basicly chibi is word to describe art style to make human/animal/creature look cutier with drawing them in shape like child. Chibi style mostly recognize at manga/anime with bigger head, shorter arms and feet. Totally cuteness in brilliant level. I am considering this book because to the point and give us so many projects to practice. The step by step is clear and instruction to draw are written with simple words make this book easy to follow by adult and younger readers.
I happily recommend it to my art and craft community.

Thank you Netgalley and Rock Point from Quarto Publishing Group for provided my copy. I am truly grateful could learn new skill and my thoughts are my own. This adorable drawing lesson will release at 13 September 2022.

This book is absolutely adorable! I love to draw but I've always struggled with Chibi's and the author has found the perfect way to make it accessible for me with a clear step by step guide with easy to understand accompanying pictures.

At the beginning of the book there is a small description (next to picture) of each mythical creature so you can get to know each one, there's also a few handy art tips and on most pages there's a folklore fact about the chibi you're drawing so you're learning a little something at the same time.

The book is bold, colourful and above all else absolutely adorable!

I love this book! It’s so easy to follow and I’ve had so much fun drawing so many of the creatures so far and plans to draw more. They are so fun and cute! Even my kids have been having fun following the steps and drawing their own little creatures. I will definitely be recommending it to friends.

This may be one of the cutest hot to draw books I have seen. It has Kawaii feels but with little critters.

I am always look for fun art books to share with my children. This book was a hit. It took a bit to get into the rhythm of this book. Each book is different on how it approaches drawing. Once we got it it went pretty smoothly. Resulting in finally products that the children were proud of.

It’s simplistic concept but it pays off. It’s visually appealing. Grabbing the viewer/reader and convincing them they can do it to. For that it was a win win! Wish it added a touch more on medium to use for coloring. For those that may need some extra direction but that is easily overlooked.

In short:
Did we like it? Yes.
Would we recommend it ? Yes.
Would we check out more by this author? Probably.

An absolutely adorable collection that will appeal to many young readers, this title will make a great addition/replacement to our crafts/drawing section of our nonfiction collection. I definitely want to highlight it in a "dragon" display we'll be doing for all the wings of fire and dragon masters enthusiasts at our library.

My only critique (and it's significant) is that the Wendigo should not be included here. The Wendigo is from various Indigenous communities including the Aashinabe nations who have asked REPEATEDLY for non-indigenous people not to use it in their fiction. It's really inappropriate for it to be here, and frankly, and it's embarrassing.

Please take that page out for a more inclusive and wonderful book. Thanks!

Such cute drawings in the book! I love how detailed the book is. It's easy to draw these cute chibi creatures with such easy to understand directions. I am not much of an artist and I was able to draw these pics. An excellent drawing guide.

Thanks to the publisher for the arc.
