ive tried a few times to get through this book both written format and audio and for whatever reason it just doesn't work for me. It may be the personality of the main character and how the story is told but it just doesnt hold my attention sadly.

Thank you for the advanced e-copy of this book. I enjoyed the format, while it was a little confusing for me at times. There were so many different characters, I had some trouble keeping them all straight. I was SHOCKED by the twist at the end of the book, which for me, means it was a success.

A quirky, fresh mystery with loads of twists. Expect the unexpected from Benjamin Stevenson who is an accomplished comedian/ author. His style is wry, sly and addictive. The first person narrative draws you in. Is it a traditional mystery? A clever who-done it? A bizarre narrative? Whatever it is, it's first rate entertainment. One of the funniest books I've ever read!

This was a fun take on a traditional who done it, The Cunningham’s are a complicated family, and nothing is at it appears to be.

The plot moved along at a good pace and I really enjoyed the narrator’s point of view. His telling, and retelling, of certain events made for a quick, fun read.

Thanks to Mariner and to Netgalley for providing me with a copy of this book to read and review.

I thought I was really going to like this one. I DNFed at 25%. I thought the premise was clever, the characters were quirky. I loved the narrator telling the story. However, I got a bit confused with the plot. I couldn’t follow along, even though I think that was done intentionally to tease you and keep you reading. I found I didn’t want to pick this one up to find out what happened next. I may try again another time.

I loved this book. It is a fun take on the mystery genre. I enjoyed getting to know the Cunningham/Garcia family. I loved the way Ernie told the story. It is a great mystery, and I had sonmuch fun trying to piece the clues together.

This was a great story, with the styles of Agatha Christie and Sherlock Holmes dropped in, wrapped up with a bit of family dynamics that reminded me of "The Nest". Ernest, a key member of the quirky and crazy Cunningham family, is sitting on a treasure trove of money acquired during a murder his brother was ultimately put in jail for. Ernest is sure that someone is after the stash and the family gathering is the place they plan to get their hands on it. But things don't go as planned, secrets are revealed and more dead bodies show up. While everyone is excited to see Ernest's brother at the gathering, upon his release from jail, more than meets the eye about what happened that night and the connections to the families dark and twisty past.

Readers will enjoy the quick storyline, narration, and layout of the chapters. I was excited to see this was #1 in what looks to be a series as I'm very curious to see where the future takes this family!

The title and premise drew me right in. Unfortunately - the tone and style of the writing really didn’t work for me. I enjoy clever writing but not when it feels like it’s patting itself on the back for being so clever all the time. This one wasn’t for me. Thank you to Mariner and Netgalley for the free ebook and physical book to review.

I’m struggling to review this one because I really liked the elements of it that I enjoyed, but it felt like it dragged a bit. It be a me problem, since I want my thrillers to move at the pace of a runaway train. I did really enjoy the dialogue & inner monologue of the protagonist & the ways in which you felt “in on it” as the reader. I’ll definitely try others by the author in the future!

Thank you so much @netgalley & @marinerbooks for the eArc!

This book is written in such a unique way, and I really loved that! I love how this book breaks the fourth wall. It was just so unique and fun! Definitely worth a read!

I'm not going to lie: this was a lot of fun.

The first chapter sets the right tone and dark humor for the rest of the book. It's told from Ernest Cunningham's perspective, the black sheep of the family after he betrayed.... never mind. You'll see.

And while none of his family members are fantastic people, it's easy to be on Ernest's side as he navigates through his family's politics as the large Cunningham family is trapped by a blizzard in a remote ski lodge location. See, his oldest brother is finally, FINALLY, out of jail and this is a family reunion. And also perhaps a perfect time to talk about the very large amount of cash Ernest has been holding onto since his brother went to jail. And maybe someone else sees it as the perfect time to take their revenge.

The main characters are well described and well drawn. I liked/disliked all of them and as the story moved forward, their backstories were brought to the surface. Complicated, gritty and yes, everyone in that damn family killed someone. But they all had their own reasons. I'm not saying they were justified... but, well. You'll see. And the plot moves fast. There's a blizzard, there's a murder, there's missing family members, an estranged wife, a shady step father... you name it. And all of them fit together like well worn puzzle pieces.

It's clever and fun and while I did figure it out early on, I really liked the ride and there were a few surprises in there that caught me totally off guard. I think anyone who enjoys a good thriller with a lot of family dynamics will eat this up.

Take it with you on vacation. And just say not to family reunions.

This book was a sarcastic and engaging new take on a murder mystery — our narrator Ernest Cunningham is from an interesting family. When they gather together for a family reunion at a remote ski lodge, bodies start dropping and Ernie is responsible for telling the story and also solving the mystery. Excited for more installments!

I think that this book is truly brilliant. The first person point of view was such a crazy way to experience this thriller. I loved the main character & narrator staring their thoughts and speculations. 10000% worth the read!!

This is the perfect book for a movie! I felt like I was living in the scenes and was really a part of everything. The descriptions and the quirks of telling the reader what was happening or going to happen and telling them to skip ahead if they wanted was brilliant.

This is such a fun read! And the author has an incredible voice, sharp and hilarious while keeping the plot ratcheting up in stakes and barreling forward. The narrator, Ernest's, voice is charming, and I personally loved the breaking of the fourth wall. This is a playful and fun riff on mystery novels, and perfect for the summer! Will definitely have my eye out for more from this writer.

No what I had hope for. Ended up not finishing. Just didn't resonate with me. Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once. I'm not trying to be dramatic, but it is the truth. Some of us are good, others are bad, and some just unfortunate.

“Everyone in my family has killed someone. Some of us, the high achievers, have killed more than once.”

With that opening line, I knew I was in for a crazy ride. Ernest Cunningham is a self published author of how to books for writing crime fiction. His aunt has organized a family reunion at an Australian ski chalet timed with Ernie’s brother’s prison release. A mysterious killing on the mountain (during a blizzard) sets up a locked room mystery that Ernie works to solve.
It’s clever and snarky (the author is a stand up comedian), but it’s also a dark, twisted ride that I know is going to be a hit with readers.

I expected to love this book. The title alone probably sold thousands of copies. That said, the main character was just sort of off-putting for me and I could not get into the book or enjoy the story. I seem to be an outlier though and others have apparently really en;joyed it.

This was such a fun mystery to read! i loved the dark humor and all of the suspects to choose from.
Many thanks to Mariner and to Netgalley for providing me with a galley in exchange for my honest opinion.

I was so excited for this book, as it had gotten great buzz, but I did not enjoy it and ended up not finishing it about 30% into the title. I had a hard time connecting with any of the characters and did not enjoy the structure of the book.
