This was another fun addition to the Andy Carpenter series. I always enjoy the interactions between all the characters and the way the mystery plays out. I picked up a few things along the way with this one, but missed some clues too. I may go back and re-read it at some point to see those bits that I missed.

This is the 26th book in the series and I started at book 23. I have since gone back to the beginning, but am also trying to keep up with the end. I may re-read all the later books once I catch up just to keep them all in order, but David Rosenfelt seems to be able to write them almost faster than I can read them!

Once again, I listened to the audiobook narrated by Grover Gardner. He always does such an excellent job. I always try to listen to this series.

This is such a great series. I will admit that it is unrealistic in some ways and repetitive in theme, but you know exactly what you are getting when you pick up an Andy Carpenter story. Personally, I enjoy the characters, mystery, and humor in these stories and I am already looking forward to the next one, Flop Dead Gorgeous, which is expected out next July. I also look forward to expanding into the The K Team series soon.

It is close to Christmas and the Tara Foundation has a litter of puppies! Chris Myers who is a disbarred lawyer because of a felony has offered to foster the puppies. In the meantime the man who testified against him has come forward and said he lied. Now he wants Andy to represent him to get his felony overturned. Too bad the witness has now turned up dead and Chris has now been arrested for his murder. Isn't that just the way! The narrator of this series is spectacular and I cannot imagine any other way to partake of this series. There is sass and snark and witty one liners. As usual, Andy pull out all the stops to represent Chris and dazzle his way in court.

An Andy Carpenter Mystery. This lighthearted audio story of a lawyer Andy Carpenter who really wants to retire but can't seem to say no to those in need. He takes on a case of a man, Chris who fosters batch of 8 puppies for him. Chris a former lawyer, has been released from prison after serving his time for a crime he says he did not commit. Chris learns the person who put him there admits he lied and wants to tell the truth. Andy will help Chris get the conviction overturned. However, the witness is murdered and Chris is arrested as the killer. Now Andy must represent him against a murder charge. The story is told with lots of witticisms and the narrator Grover Gardner does a very good job telling the story with different character voice changes. It really has nothing to do with the dogs and only brief mention of it being Christmas and Santa time. I liked the humor and the case has enough twists to keep it interesting. Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan audio for this audio. This is my first Andy Carpenter Mystery and I do think you'll enjoy the read or audio.

Thank you NetGalley and David Rosenfelt for the Audiobook of Santa's Little Yelpers. This is my personal review.
This is the 26th book in the series An Andy Carpenter Mystery. I am so glad I got this audiobook to listening to on my road trip. The narrator Grover Gardner is the perfect person to read this book. He brought the mystery to life for me. His voice is excellent for this.
I will now be getting the entire series to listen to. Not having read any of the previous books I was still able to enjoy this as a standalone book.
The mystery of the book was done so well that I could not figure out who did it and why.
The mystery sprinkled with a bit of humor makes this one a winner for me.

I’m never going to stop judging books by their covers. There are PUPPIES on this book. Lots of puppies. I had to have the puppy book, and thanks to NetGalley, I got my hands on an audiobook version.

I really expected this to be more festive - again judging by the cover as it is next level festive and the title includes the word “Santa”. This book is much more focused on a lawyer and the case he’s working. Now I gotta say I enjoyed it, but at the same time I have no idea what it was about. It was a murder case and the book started with a dog having puppies but otherwise I really just remember laughing a lot because it has some hilarious one liners.

This is apparently book 26 in a series but I think it’s a standalone. I wasn’t confused, this book just wasn’t memorable. The narrator was great though.

Once I adjusted my expectations for this book, I really enjoyed the story!

But from the cover and the description, I anticipated a lot more involvement of the puppies and the holidays, and so was confused by something that reminded me much more of one of Steve Demaree's Lt Dekker series than of a Hallmark movie.

I like both Lt Dekker and Hallmark stories, but they are jarringly incompatible, and so I feel like the cover did a disservice to the book.

That said, the storyline was intelligent, witty and thoroughly enjoyable once I adjusted my expectations to look for curmudgeonly and self-defacing humor instead of puppy love.

And for the story itself, the narrator was a perfect fit! He did an excellent job bringing the book to life.

Thank you to David Rosenfelt, Macmillan Audio and NetGalley for an advance review copy.

“Chris Myers did time for a crime he swears he didn’t commit. When Myers discovers a key witness against him lied on the stand, he goes to Andy to ask for representation in getting the conviction overturned. Myers thinks they can have this wrapped up by Christmas, no problem.

But when the witness is murdered, and Myers is arrested for the crime, things go from bad to worse. Suddenly, it’s all elves on deck to make a list and check it twice, so they can prove Myers is innocent.”

Colour me shocked.

This book, whose title is worthy of the worst Olsen Twin’s movie, is better than it has any right to be.

It not only kept my interest, but actually made me SOL (snicker out loud).

The main character is a droll, sarcastic pain in the ass, and I fell in love, just a little

You often have to let a few things slide in a book this short. Things like character development and pacing and sense of place. Yelpers (even typing that makes me cringe) manages to pull it off.

Funny, but not forced.

Fast paced, but not rushed.

Quirky, but not cartoonish.

The furry title is mildly misleading as dogs (or any animal) play only a small role in this book. I haven’t read the other TWENTY FIVE BOOKS in the series, so I can’t say if this is usual. I bothered me not at all, as I was worried this book was veering in the direction of Air Bud, but instead of footballs, pups would be sporting deerstalkers and carrying magnifying glasses.

If this installment is usual for this series, I’d definitely be interested in filling that shelf gap.

8.5/10

Thanks to NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for this surprising ARC.

I began listening to this book and got 16% in when I was aware this wasn’t going to be about dogs. If I were in the mood for lawyer mystery maybe I would have stayed.

Review of the audiobook of this novel.

I always know that I can count on an Andy Carpenter book for some great humor and a legal case to unravel. Add to that the appeal of Andy’s love for dogs and Christmas cheer and you have a winner!

In this novel one of the helpers at the Tara Foundation (a rescue center for golden retrievers and other unwanted and unloved dogs) is in a jam.

Chris Meyers has just been released from prison after serving a sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. Now he has had contact from a key witness in the case who tells him that he lied under oath and is willing to recant his testimony.

Of course he turns to Andy to help him get his conviction overturned. Problem is, while they are still discussing this, the witness is murdered and Chris is once again facing a murder charge for a crime he didn’t commit.

The plot for this novel is quite complex and I never imagined what was really going on.

There is a town that is buying up residents' homes but no one seems to know what they are doing with the property. Are they really working on infrastructure and roads??? Leave it to Andy and his team to find out.

All of the usual players are present including Laurie, Andy’s ex-police wife; Marcus, their muscle man, Cory, Sam and Eddie and of course Simon Garfunkle, ex-police dog.

I really enjoyed this addition to the series as it featured more of Andy’s life with his wife and son Ricky, rounding out his personality into a really likable guy!!

I can recommend this audiobook for a fun listen with a multi-layered plot that will keep you guessing.

I received this Audiobook from Macmillan Audio and Minotaur Books, through NetGalley. It was my pleasure to read and review this fun novel.

Thank you NetGalley and Macmillan Audio for accepting my request to audibly read and review Santa's Little Yelpers.

Author: David Rosenfelt
Published: 10/11/22
Narrator: Grover Gardner
Genre: Mystery & Thrillers

Andy Carpenter is back. While this is the 26th book in the series, it is my second. Thoroughly enjoyable. Grover Gardner was brilliant.

Andy is an attorney with a dry sense of humor and comedic personality. He is happily married, loves his kid, and the family dog. It is quite refreshing to experience this familial dynamic.

There is always a case, and this book is not different. His client claims to be innocent. Andy and his staff go about putting their case together. All the while coming up against various obstacles.

There is some profanity.

This was a fun listen while I puzzled. I could see curled up with a glass of wine, and the book or the audiobook. Jessica Fletcher fans may also enjoy this.

Four stars: The comedy is well-written and the family dynamic brought this to 4.

Santa’s Little Yelpers by David Rosenfelt
Andy Carpenter Book 22
Grover Gardner, Narrator
I have read or listened to most of this series and they are all very similar but this one seemed so familiar that I had to go back and check to see if was really a new book. It is and it was entertaining but mainly because I enjoy the humor.
Grover Gardner as narrator was, as always excellent. For me, he is the voice of Andy Carpenter.
Thanks to Netgalley.

Falalalala, la-la-la-la 🎄

Christmas backdrop! A perfect book for dog lovers who enjoy light mystery, legal scenes, and a big splash of humor.

Chris Myers works at Andy's dog rescue, The Tara Foundation. Chris is an ex-lawyer who was disbarred after a bar fight that resulted in the death of the other guy. A witness who testified in court told Chris he lied at the time and would help Chris get his conviction overturned. When the two met, the guy was killed in a drive-by shooting. Chris was arrested for murder and it's up to Andy to help prove his innocence.

"Santa's Little Yelpers" has a multi-layer mystery that was quite surprising. Eight golden retriever puppies enter the story. I love funny dialog throughout the story and insults at Charlie's sports bar with Andy's friends. I found it very entertaining.

Grover Gardner is amazing as the narrator for this series. I would not read an Andy Carpenter book any other way.

I'm so happy that there are two Andy Carpenter books a year, one for summer and another for Christmas. I wonder if it's because it's Laurie's favorite time of year. Whatever the case, please keep them coming! 🐕💝

Thank you Macmillan Audio and Netgalley for this DRC.
Expected publication on Oct. 11, 2022!

When I want a good mystery that is guaranteed to make me laugh out loud, I turn to Andy Carpenter and his motley crew. David Rosenfelt has a way of balancing humor with mystery that absolutely keeps me enthralled from page one. In this newest installment, Andy sets out to defend Myers because he genuinely believes him. He was not prepared for all that came with it, and I was not quite sure where it was all going to go. I was genuinely guessing until the end to piece together all the seemingly loose details. I love how much family, friends, and dogs are central to these stories. The sarcasm and witty rebuttals are a bonus too.
I had the privilege of listening to an audio copy of this book, provided by the publisher via NetGalley. All opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given. The narrator, Grover Gardner, captures the essence of Andy perfectly and I love listening to him bring these stories to life.

This series can easily be read out of order or just drop in anywhere and have a good read while laughing your sox off! This is NOT an unbiased review! I love the Andy Carpenter and K-Team books! The stories are imaginative, somewhat plausible, totally engaging, and off-set reality.
Andy Carpenter is a wise-mouthed lawyer who can afford to take semi-retirement by only representing innocent clients while supporting an animal shelter. Add in that his wife is no longer law enforcement but works as his private investigator and more and you have the baseline for these convoluted mysteries. There are many other people who help Andy find out what the truth really is and make it courtroom admissible (The K-Team).
This time the client is a guy on parole who works at the Tara Foundation rescue/shelter who states he was innocent then and is innocent of the charge laid on him now. Let the sleuthing begin! The mysteries are always intriguing, and I cackled my way through the whole thing (again)!
Grover Gardner perfectly personifies Carpenter's snarky self!
I requested and received a temporary audio copy from Macmillan audio via NetGalley. Thank you!

Another fun installment in the Andy Carpenter series. This series just wouldn't be the same without all the original and recent characters.

Andy Carpenter is a reluctant lawyer who keeps getting drawn back into the courtroom. Andy and his wife also run the Tara Foundation, an organization dedicated to rescuing dogs, so dogs are always at least tangential to the story (and the covers are adorable). The Tara Foundation has just received a mother Golden Retriever, and her eight puppies. Chris Myers, their newest worker, offers to foster them. Chris is a former lawyer who lost his practice when he was jailed for manslaughter. He claims to be innocent, but a witness lied. Now the witness wants to recant his false testimony, and Andy volunteers to help clear Chris’s name. Of course, nothing is ever that easy and when the witness ends up dead, Chris is once again on trial.

Grover Gardner is the narrator of this audiobook and he is perfect. Andy has a dry sense of humor, is self-deprecating and sarcastic, and Gardner captures his personality perfectly.

The characters surrounding Andy are all well-done. His wife, a former police officer, and his investigative team are competent and willing to take risks when necessary. His three dogs are adorable and his son is there just enough to remind us he has one, but not enough to annoy me.

The action moves along at a good pace. The plot is appropriately complicated, involving the mob, a religious cult, and a nuclear physicist. It’s a complex conspiracy, but the solution wraps it up all rather well. I definitely enjoyed it. I don’t know why I’ve read so few of this series – the ones I have read have been fun.

This is number 26 in the Andy Carpenter series. A so called retired lawyer that hasn’t really retired yet. Love his dry sense of humor throughout the book. Unfortunately this was my first time reading the series and felt a little lost due to all the characters. I am sure I would have enjoyed the book more if I had some background on them. I selected this book because of the cover and was disappointed that the dogs really didn’t play any part of the story, but for the occasional walk. The narrator was great at telling the story.
Thank you NetGalley for this eARC audiobook. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. #NetGalley #SantasLittleYelpers

Santa’s Little Yelpers (Andy Carpenter #26)
David Rosenfelt
While I know this is a legal mystery, I also consider it a Cozy Mystery. This is the 26th mystery in the Andy Carpenter series. This book stands well alone. I’ve read other Andy Carpenter books where the dogs play a greater role; but in this one they are secondary characters. Much of this book is humorous. The regular cast of characters are in this book as well as a few new characters.
Chris Myers is a former lawyer; he was disbarred when he was found guilty of manslaughter. He served two years and is out on parole; he still proclaims his innocent. He is currently working for The Tara Foundation where he takes care of a litter of golden retriever puppies. An eyewitness to the original murder, contacts Chris asserting he was paid to lie. Then the man backs out. An angry Chris goes to the man’s home. The man is shot while Chris is in the house. Frightened, Chris leaves but is arrested a short time later. Andy Carpenter is a semi-retired lawyer. He agrees to take the case. The clues lead to a religious cult, organized crime, corruption and murder.
Author David Rosenfelt is a master at creating twists and turns, and complex plots. Andy’s team of investigators are excellent and very funny. Sam, Andy’s talented hacker travels to a small town, where he meets some frightening characters. I enjoyed learning more about Marcus. Another great tale by author David Rosenfelt.

Andy Carpenter and his team have another case trying to exonerate yet another dog-lover wrongfully accused. Yes, it’s predictable, but it is still a good read for dog lovers and cozy mystery enthusiasts.

This is pretty much exactly like every other book in the series. That is not a bad thing. Andy and his crew need to save an innocent person from being convicted.. I finished it three days ago and have to admit I don’t remember anything about the plot. The book moves quickly, it is light enough that you can stop and start again, or even zone out (I like the audio books) and you really don’t miss much. Andy and his crew are funny. I have read every book in the series and I will keep reading every single book that comes out even thought I couldn’t tell you the plot or ending of a single one.
