There aren't enough stars to give Dana Schwartz! I had previously read Anatomy, A Love Story and was so excited about this book. Let me tell everybody it didn't disappoint. Any questions you may have from Anatomy will most likely be answered.

I became engrossed from the very beginning. This well written page-turner had me reading nonstop. I love Hazel and the amazing surgeon she is. The world build this author weaves helped me enjoy the book almost as an experience since in my mind I was inside the book, with Hazel, and all the vivid characters she encountered. I felt my heartstrings pull when she was imprisoned but also when she was rescued to be Princess Charlotte's personal physician.

I highly recommend this book to all It is a great read with an amazing storyline. I hope this author continues to give us more of this series.

Dana Schwartz is a phenomenal storyteller, the ability to weave a beautiful story such as this it's truly remarkable!
A captivating historical, gothic tale with mystery, romance and a strong female protagonist!
The atmosphere of this book is done extremely well. It was as if I was walking among these characters.
My gosh and the writing!!! Hot damn.... Dana Schwartz writing is beautiful, descriptive, and captivating.
I don't know how she can top her next book! Because her first two are just wild and intensely-gripping.
I had the absolute best time devouring Immortality!

Wow! Wow wow wow WOW!

I absolutely loved this sequel to Anatomy. Immortality follows Hazel Sinnett, the scandalous female surgeon who brought shame to her family by breaking off her engagement and practicing medicine. Now she lives alone at Hawthorne Castle, treating patients and working on publishing her own research. Everything Hazel wants is impossible for a woman in Edinburgh 1818.

But when one life saved turns into a wrongful accusation of murder, she is thrown in jail, pending her hanging. She is rescued by The Royal Palace, requesting that she be the personal physician for the country’s beloved Princess Charlotte in exchange for her freedom. She arrives to London, where she embarks on a journey of secret societies, grief, and love.

Immortality is a spectacular sequel to Anatomy. The book weaves incredible themes of womanhood, independence, social progress, and ‘the greater good.’ And of course, a love story. Dana Schwartz does an amazing job of making the story feel whole with her pacing. She gives us an entirely new story while also wrapping up all the questions we were left with from Anatomy. I absolutely loved the way she included historical figures in this novel and the secret society she created in this world.

I fell in love with new characters, gasped with all her twists and turns, and every question from Anatomy was answered for me (plus all the new ones from this book). I have to say this will be one of my most anticipated releases- I can’t wait to talk about this book with others!

I have to mention the beautiful way Schwartz talks about a woman’s love for her career and independence, while also feeling pangs of solitude for a world that finds her intimidating and isn’t ready for her fierceness. I see this theme play out in today’s world with all the powerful and trailblazing women I see- and have felt that myself. I simply cannot recommend this book enough!

You must read this sequel. Her storytelling is impeccable.

First off, thank you for meeting cover expectations with this equally gorgeous cover from Anatomy!

Now, the review: I adored Anatomy. I felt the plot moved quickly and had a clear story arc whereas Immortality felt a bit less defined. I still enjoyed the story, but there didn't seem to be a specific story arc to follow in this book. Instead, this novel felt like a middle ground, a continuation of the hooked ending of Anatomy (which caused me SEVERE heartache), and almost a placeholder for the next challenge Hazel Sinnett must undertake. That being said, I still loved it. The pacing was well done and the tension between Hazel and Simon was beautifully crafted. It is so hard for me to not fall in love with a man who appreciates a woman's mind in literature.

We finally get answers about Jack, and thank-god we do because I am still not over Anatomy's ending. I will say, I do have a LOT of questions with the ending of Immortality, so Dana Schwartz, I am politely asking for you to please give us one more to tie up some of those loose ends.

As a side note, I was curious about Hazel's mother and brother. It would seem that her mother would want the access to the royal family and would almost seem a smidge proud of her daughter for finding herself residing and treating near the beloved Princess; but we don't really hear anything about them during the meat and potatoes of the story. I'm curious to know what Hazel's mother was doing/saying in regards to her position.

Things I loved: Princess Charlotte's real reason for illness, the King's Doctor Simon (swooned a little too hard for him, I almost picked him over Jack!), the Companions of Death, I definitely want some more of this.

ANATOMY was my fave book of the year so you know I squealed when the sequel arrived. From my review earlier this year: Although this may not have been the romance story that its tagline suggests, it’s definitely a love story. A love story of: finding what you love to do, the love for others, the love for science and discovery, and of course, some romantic love as well.

IMMORTALITY, did not disappoint. The sequel has more romantic love, with the other kinds sprinkled in too. We follow Hazel’s journey from Edinburgh to England and I’m grateful we get to read how Hazel’s journey ends, her brilliance and caring nature make it impossible not to root for her happy ending. Hazel genuinely wants to help people. The multiple love stories didn’t hurt either. With a mix of historical fiction and magical realism, this was a great end to a fantastic duology.

I would say this is a pretty lovely great close to the duology. Just like Anatomy, this book was the perfect amount of mystery, gore, and romance stitched together (pun intended) that made it a very enjoyable adventure. The author's bending of history/historical figures made it fun and I especially adored her addition of Princess Charlotte of Wales. I don't want to give any spoilers, but her ending was much lovelier than in real life and I appreciate who her romantic partner was.

As sad as it made me, I loved that whether Jack died or not is a mystery for a good deal of the book (you'll have to read it to find out), especially since you assume that he lives at the end of book one after writing Hazel a letter. Well, Dana Schwartz will flip that all on its head, because did Jack actually write that letter? I was surprised at first that the author decided to do that, but it really made Hazel's journey and grief that much more unique and engaging. It also welcomes the possibility for new relationships in Hazel's life.

I loved Hazel and Eliza's easy camaraderie. They were such fast friends and a happy dose of female friendship. I also adored Simon. He was so sassy, yet classy, and the biggest cinnamon roll. I would marry that man in a heartbeat. I really enjoyed that the author did not make him overbearing or aggressively manly. He was intelligent and caring and didn't feel threatened by Hazel being a female physician. I loved him and Hazel together so much I was torn between wanting them to be together and feeling guilty I wanted them to be together because I was holding out hope for Jack! Honestly, best part of the book for me! I also have to give a shout out to the Companions of Death - such a cool addition for a historical fiction junkie like me! I wish I could say more about them, but wanted to leave a spoiler free review as always!

I didn't get the full 5 stars for me for the same reason I gave in my review of Anatomy. I didn't feel like Hazel felt the consequences of a lot of her actions of being a well-known and unmarried woman of the ton (wandering around by herself, being with men without a chaperone, etc.) It was just so unheard of regarding a lady of her class. She faces more consequences in this book, but for smaller parts of the story that historical reality falls at the wayside. However, it's not enough to take you out the story and I appreciate that Schwartz did put more stress on Hazel "acting correctly" in society this go around.

Overall, fantastic YA read and cannot wait to buy the hardback to join Anatomy on my shelves! Thank you Netgalley and St. Martin's Press for providing an early copy in exchange for an honest review!

Ahhhh I wanted to love this one so badly because I LOVED Anatomy! And I did enjoy this book for the most part..
I do think this book is a bit slower paced than the first book, and less of the gruesome and gothic vibes. But that was okay with me, I was still excited to see what would happen to Hazel! and I had to know if Jack came back?!?!?

However...

CW: it mentions two girls making out and both are naked from the waist up. That alone, and the fact that it becomes a bigger part of the story, is NOT my thing. More on that below in the spoiler section.

There's suddenly a lesbian relationship thrown into the story out of no where.. and I just feel like it was done more for the sake of being 'woke'. And then I felt like there was suddenly so much focus on that side plot, than on Hazel and her own future/story..

I WANTED MORE OF HER AND JACK!!

Yes Jack is alive and I love him and Hazel together sooo much and I'm so so so happy that the author gave us an HEA for them😭❤️❤️ their parts together were my favvvvv!! We needed more of them!!! I would have loved to see him show up earlier and/or have them working together more, but what we did get of them was so so sweet and I loved that.

So.. in a nutshell, I enjoyed it.. but I feel like the Charlotte/Eliza thing was out of left field and unnecessary to the story, could have just focused more on the secret society and immortality and Jack and her, but that's just me! This is supposedly YA but I would not be giving it to my kids!

HOLY COW! I have been invested in this story since book one and I'm so glad I got to read this. The sequel was just as amazing as the first. There is so much love I have for Hazel as she tries to navigate her life without Jack. I feel for her as she tries to deep dive into her work so as to not think of the pain she has endured. I also love that she wants to be independent. This has to be one of my favorite sequels to date. I cannot wait for others to read this when it comes out!

Oh my goodness!! This book was a perfect second book to Anatomy. I am so thankful that Negalley and the publisher offered me an ARC copy! This love story is one that I will never forget. The way Dana writes and her wording keeps you entranced until the end. Such a beautiful story with a beautiful cover.

Abostly loved reading this book kept me pulled into it 5 star book blurb was what caught my eye to it. Cover does fit into what this book. Already told a few people that they need to read this book ASAP because I highly recommend it

I was so sad at the end of Anatomy: a love story. I had so many questions, I didn't want to the story to end, I wanted to remain in this universe of mystery and intrigue. So, I was incredibly happy when I was able to get an advanced copy to read - thank you to @netgalley and @danaschwartzzz

We arrive not quite a year after the end of Anatomy. Hazel has continued working as a surgeon, helping the people of her town and building a reputation for herself - perhaps too much of one. She finds herself in trouble and it just might be her strange occupation may be her ticket to real freedom,

This book is so perfect. I couldn't put it down. There are events that happened in real life, but twisted in a lovely way to create a new universe full of secrets and maybe even a little magic. I strongly recommend if you love historical fiction sprinkled with make believe.

i absolutely loved this book with my whole heart!! I cried, laughed, screamed. I devoured it one sitting and just wish I could read it for the first time.

I loved this follow up novel to Anatomy: A Love Story. The story definitely took a direction I hadn't expected but it was an entertaining one. I hope there is a book three in the works.

With a cover as stunning as the first book, I was extremely excited to read this book.

Immortality: A Love Story, has just as much adventure and mystery as the first book - imprisionment, becoming a royal physician and discovering a secret society. The writing is fast paced and interesting enough that you want to keep reading. If you loved the first book, you'll definitely enjoy this too.

That being said, I will say I was slightly disappointed by the progression of the story. There's a lot happening in this story yet I don't feel like a lot happened? There was so much potential but I felt like the book either needed to be shorter or longer to fully explore what was happening on this part of Hazels doctoral journey.

Overall though, it was a decent sequel and a conclusion that everyone will enjoy!

This was such a good follow up to Anatomy!! I loved Anatomy and read it when it first came out and i was shocked at the ending. I immediately went to see if there was a sequel in the works and was so excited when I saw there was. The writing and the story and the vibes and the chapters. Immaculate!!

I absolutely loved Anatomy A Love Story, so when I got the email asking if I was interested in getting an ARC of the sequel I jumped at it. It did not disappoint! I love Hazel, she is such a great character and I desperately needed to find out what happened to Jack after the first book. I loved the pacing, the plot, the struggles she went through, the new secondary characters. It was an easy read that kept me hooked throughout. Dana's writing style provides an immersive experience, you can see and smell the grittiness of the era in which the characters are. I love the historical elements that make the story so much more believable (I for one am not one to mind the liberties taken with historical facts that are altered somewhat for the sake of the story). I highly recommend both books, and it goes without saying, the cover is beyond incredible, just as stunning as the first book.

I cannot begin to explain how freaking excited I was to see that Anatomy was getting a sequel! Hazel's story definitely deserved to be explored more, and I can safely say that Immortality did not let me down!

Continuing where Anatomy left off, Immortality picks up with Hazel mourning the loss of Jack while trying to keep up with her dreams of being a surgeon. From treating patients in her home and working on her treatise, Hazel finds herself summoned to treat Princess Charlotte—England's beloved royal who has long since been afflicted with a disease that no doctor has been able to diagnose. Once again Hazel is the standout example of a woman refusing to be constrained by society's expectations, fighting for what she believes in despite the trials she faces both socially and mentally.

While there were some parts that seemed a bit slow for me and the ending definitely kind of felt.. rushed, the alluring prose and beautiful descriptions managed to make the few short comings this story had trivial overall. I can only hope that Schwartz will surprise us with a third book, as I could 100% keep reading about Hazel's life forever.

It was wonderful to return to the world of “Anatomy: A Love Story” in the sequel, which built on everything I loved in book one. Hazel is a wonderful protagonist, and I cheered for her successes and sympathized with her struggles. Immortality brought even more layers to the world, with vivid characters keeping my interest at every turn.
This book was deeply romantic and inspiring to everyone who has worked to reach a goal that others said was out of reach.

Like Anatomy: A Love Story before it, I liked Immortality: A Love Story, but didn't fully love it. The main problem I had with this one is that it was paced very oddly, making it feel like a few different books in one. Much of the book is dealing with the aftermath of Hazel's grief of Jack, while also grappling with the dangers of being a female surgeon in the 1800s. It isn't until the last third of the book that the court intrigue and secret societies really kick in, which makes a lot of this feel disjointed.

That being said, I love the historical details that are sewn into the fabric of the story. The secret society yields so much fun rewrites of history and allows us to imagine a world where a bunch of disparate historical figures are able to be in one room together and what they would discuss. These were a highlight to me and I wish we had gotten a bit more of it.

I TRULY LOVED THIS DUOLOGY SO MUCH AND AM NOT PREPARED FOR IT TO BE OVER!!!!

The final installment of Hazel's journey to becoming a female Surgeon and the mystery surrounding immortality after book one was just true perfection.

We start this book not long after Jack's hanging and have no idea if he took the tincture and survived and is now immortal. Hazel is taking care of the impoverished townspeople of Edinburgh and is mourning Jack by getting lost in her work. When she assists someone and it catches her in jail, Hazel descends into madness until she is saved thanks to an English Royal family member.

She is whisked off to London and is navigating London society while also getting involved with a secret group of immortal artists, scientists, and politicians. Hazel also becomes close to a very handsome and intelligent and RESPECTED doctor, who is treating the King and sparks start to fly.....until someone shows back up.....

I really enjoyed this installment of the story and really fell in love with the new characters we were introduced to. HAzel's journey is harrowing and often times dark, but the undercurrent of love and confidence she has in herself really pull us through.

There was a bit of a love triangle and I have to admit the conclusion of it both made me happy and terribly sad. Anyone want Hazel to get to have both futures with both men? No? Just me? BAH!

I'm already ready to jump back into this story again and cannot wait to reread it one day!
