This book was an interesting and innovative storyline, I liked all the different characters and their connection, however I thought it was just a little too over the top a little too unlikely. But then again historically speaking that's what mystery novels are like so it's not a bad thing I just prefer a little more grounded story.

I've really enjoyed Alex Finlay's books and am a little on the fence with the latest. The plot is great if a little complicated - how the actions of the past may or may not influence a group of people into adulthood. But there are a LOT of characters to keep track of and it got a little confusing at times. I was also bothered by how the neurodiverse character was presented and described. But overall, a super fast read that gets really exciting in the final third of the book.

Read this book in a day.
A stay-at-home mom, a has-been rock star, a reality-TV producer. Three disparate lives. One deadly secret.
The foster children of Savior House never knew the peace of a normal childhood. Raised in an institution, a group of four friends from the home have now grown and gone their separate ways. They haven't seen one another since they left those abusive foster-home halls, until, twenty-five years later, they are reunited for a single, inescapable reason: someone is trying to kill them.
To save their lives, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their past – a past that holds the key to everything.
I just reviewed What Have We Done by Alex Finlay. #NetGalley

This book was admittedly a little hard to get into, so at a certain point I was expecting it to be a pretty predictable thriller. But that’s the thing about this author - Finlay set it up to seem super predictable but then gave us a bunch of wild twists to throw us off in the end, without making the twists feel overdone. That’s, in my opinion, what brings a good thriller to a great thriller. There were still some things that I predicted ahead of time, and by the time it got to the end, I had figured out a big piece of the puzzle but that didn’t make it any less enjoyable to watch the plot unfold.
The only real complaint I had was that I had a hard time feeling connected to any of the characters or feeling the depth of their friendship until close to the end, since the flashbacks were all in short paragraphs within the story rather than having chapters following the non-linear timelines. I also felt Jenna’s storyline was a little unbelievable but I still LOVED it and it made the epilogue even better!

I love Alex Finlays writing style and previous books, and I enjoyed the complexity of the characters and how well their backgrounds were described.

I LOVED this book. Literally ate it up. Read it all in 3 hours. Read this- you will not regret it! I like Alex finlay typically, but I really really liked this one

Everyone has a past, and everyone has secrets. This book digs right into the past lives and secrets of those we surround ourselves with. I personally have a hard time with multiple POVs, or anything that exceeds two points. Obviously that's a me problem. But I love a good thriller and this one was very good!

thank you to #Netgalley and Alex Finlay for my advanced readers copy of his new book! My thoughts and opinions are my own.
This was my first novel by Alex Finlay, and I can say it won't be my last. Alex Finlay grabs you at the very beginning and won't let go. He writes in such a way that makes you want to keep reading. There is such a mystery in his writing that intrigues his readers.
"A stay-at-home mom with a past.
A has-been rock star with a habit.
A reality TV producer with a debt.
Three disparate lives.
One deadly secret."
When this is part of the synopsis, who wouldn't be intrigued by that? I want to know how these vastly different people are connected. What happened to them? I loved his writing, and his character development and selection was great! I felt connected to the characters and felt for them when their stories were revealed. Pick this one up if you want a good mystery.

As engaging as most of this book was, the last 10% or so seemed very chaotic. The character changes throughout kept things interesting because it made it a slow burn.

This was my first Alex Finlay and I think I had a pretty high bar set because his previous books are highly loved/recommended. Unfortunately this one was a miss for me. It appears many fans of this author feel this was not their best work so I look forward to picking up something else!
I really struggled to get into the storyline, and I didn’t care about the characters. With multiple povs/timeline jumping it was difficult to follow a story I wasn’t feeling connected to. It also felt to rushed between the timelines that it was just confusing.
Thank you Netgalley and Minotaur Books for an advanced copy!

I read this book in about 24 hours. Hooked me right away, had me turning the pages, curious how it would all play out. I liked it! I got about 25% in and was still getting confused with who was who so I sat down and write down who everyone was. I enjoyed it much kore when I had a guide to remind me who everyone was. Still a lot of characters but an enjoyable twisty read.

What Have We Done is a phenomenal thriller from start to finish. Filled to the brim with twists and a captivating plot, this one is sure to keep readers hooked. The characters are well-developed. The story is incredibly fast-paced. This is one not to be missed! Highly recommended! Be sure to check out What Have We Done asap.

This was my first Alex Finlay book and it was really good. I loved the alternating POV and the twist was very unexpected !! Jenna was definitely one of the most badass female characters !!! She reminded me of Jessica Chastain in the movie Ava.. just a badass female spy.. LOVED IT !!! Cant wait to read more form him.

I was very excited to get an ARC of this book from the publisher and NetGalley because I loved the author's first book. This one was very good and I enjoyed the plot. The story is told from multiple points of view and in different time lines but it was easy to follow. It was a bit of an outlandish premise in the end but it was still fun and there were several times where I felt anxious to find out what happened. Definitely worth the time to read.

I didn’t overly dislike this one, but I can’t say I really liked it either. It was just “meh”. Some of it was predictable, and some of it came out of left field. The characters felt underdeveloped and lacked motivations (a rockstar with drug and alcohol problems - so cliche with no depth).
The good was that this was a relatively quick read, but I can’t say I would recommend it. I’ll give it 2.5 stars.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the copy in exchange for my honest review.

I enjoyed What Have We Done by Alex Finlay, especially the first half. I thought it was an interesting twist on a whodunnit and was surprised by some of the twists and turns along the way. I feel like the writing felt a bit rushed and the ending tied everything up far too quickly. Even still, I would recommend this as a good plot-driven read that would be great for a day of reading at the beach.

4/5 stars.
Thank you to NetGalley, the publishers, and Alex Finlay for allowing me to read and review this book.
This book follows three POVs with a fourth one thrown in a couple of times. Even though there are only a few POVs, there are many more main characters that play huge parts in the story.
It all starts at an orphanage where our main characters meet. However, the main timeline of the story is these same characters fifteen years later when their pasts come back to haunt them.
The dual timeline and multiple POVs makes for an interesting thriller. You get to see many different sides to the story, but you are still left trying to figure everything out along with the characters. You get to see the past as sort of flashbacks within the characters POVs. You also get to see how their past shaped them into who there are in the present timeline.
I really enjoyed trying to figure everything out along with the characters. You don't know who to trust and who not to. You don't know whose POVs you can trust. You are left wondering until the very end, when everyone, including the characters, find out what is truly happening.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves multiple POV thrillers and anyone who likes finding everything out along with the characters.

3.5 Stars
Alex Finlay has become a personal favorite of mine since reading Night Shift. This book was different, yet did ask the question of how things that took place years ago can impact your life today...and what in the hell are you going to do about it...especially if you thought it was hidden.

wow, i didn't see that ending coming. Pulled me in and did not let go. Alex Finlay keeps getting better and better.

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an e-ARC in return for an honest review.
Overall, this was a quick read. The story jumps in so quickly that you don’t have time to connect with the characters. If you are looking for an action packed thriller from page one, this is a book for you. The story revolves mainly around 5 people who grew up together and did something they can never take back. Fast forward 25 years and the consequences of their action start to come to play. You never know who to trust and find family in people you may not expect.
