This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites for a twisty, thrilling book. The way he sets the scene is full of details that immerses the reader in the pages. How the author used the past only intensified the present and made the thrill of each scene more enjoyable. This book has a plethora of action packed scenes that will no doubt keep your heart racing.

Though this is a multiple POV, I felt as if this book was led by the story, rather than characters. For those looking for a huge character arc, I felt that it was lacking in that department. This book shines instead with its “who-done-it” narrative and short chapters that keep the book fast paced. There are twists throughout the book that keep you on your toes and an ending that I didn’t guess.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martins Press/Minotaur Books for this ARC

OK, this was thoroughly enjoyable!
From the first page, I was hooked. I didn't want to put this down.
The majority of the story is from three different pov's, and you get just enough information in every chapter to keep you wanting more. I can't remember the last time I got through a book so fast.

A stay-at-home mom with a past.
A has-been rock star with a habit.
A reality TV producer with a debt.
Three disparate lives.
One deadly secret.

Twenty five years ago, Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were the best of friends, a bond forged as residents of Savior House, an abusive group home for parentless teens. When the home was shut down—after the disappearance of several kids—the three were split up.

Though the trauma of their childhood has never left them, each went on to live successful, if troubled, lives. They haven’t seen one another since they were teens but now are reunited for a single haunting reason: someone is trying to kill them.

To save their lives, the group will have to revisit the nightmares of their childhoods and confront their past—a past that holds the secret to why someone wants them dead.

It’s a reunion none of them asked for... or wanted. But it may be the only way to save all their lives.

In one of the year's most anticipated thrillers #1 New York Times bestseller Sarah Pekkanen calls "Alex Finlay's best yet," What Have We Done is a tale about the lives we leave behind and the secrets we carry with us forever. Both an edge-of-your seat thriller and a gut-wrenching coming-of-age story, What Have We Done cements Alex Finlay as one of the new leading voices in thrillers today.

I was excited to get my hands on this book and man did it not disappoint!! This group of five friends did something bad 25 years ago and here we are watching them get hunted! I loved this book.

I adore this author and was so excited to read this one. What Have We Done is different than the authors past books.

It wasn’t my favorite by him but I did enjoy the fast pace here and it was fun.

Espionage mixed with missing girls and also some domestic suspense vibes this book is a lot! I flew through it and did enjoy it overall.

It was a good thriller with multiple povs and timelines. It was a bit confusing for me at times as there is so much to keep up with.

Overall I’m glad I read it and will always be a fan of this author.

After reading and loving The Night Shift by Finlay last year, I was over the moon to receive an approval for his next novel! However, this book did not live up to its expectations.

rating: 3 STARS (2.5 rounded up)
genre: thriller, adrenaline thriller

Without giving a lot away, here are my general thoughts: If you’re looking for a detective mystery where you have to put together the pieces to try to guess the whodunit, this book isn't it.

However, if you’re looking for a fast-paced, page-turning book filled with adrenaline, backstabbing, all the assassins, and villains that are handed to you on a silver platter with little to no build up, you may enjoy this one.

I will say that it would be a great palate cleanser between heavier books!
While it wasn't my favorite book, I did enjoy it. It just wasn't what I was looking for in a suspense novel.

I enjoyed this fast-paced thriller and that it was narrated by three different POVs!
Five kids did something bad 25 years ago! And the sociopathic twins are out to kill them. I love an Alex Finlay novel.
However, I wasn't really connected with the present-day main characters. The Savior House backstory was an interesting plot line but those parts were cut short and then abruptly cut to the present time There was a flaw in the transitions that confused me.

I liked the overall pacing and the main mystery. The wrap-up was a success. Not my favorite by this author.

My first Alex Finlay and it was a doozy! A group of childhood friends are forced into a reunion none of them wants, in order to stop whoever wants them dead. I raced through the pages of the one, a creepy, pulse-pounding thrill ride that will stick with you long after the last page.

This is one of those fast paced thrillers that deals in more action than emotion. Though it does dip into backstories and who the characters are, it seems secondary to a somewhat outlandish plot

Which is just fine. Books like this are a lot of fun. They suck you in and keep you going.

I guessed the outcome very early on. Which is also fine. I don’t mind not being surprised but if surprise is what it’s going for.. well, it just seemed like the thing that made the most sense if you’re paying attention.

My Review:

My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Spice: None

Savior House, a home for homeless teens brings together 5 teens, Nico (reality TV producer), Donnie (aging rockstar) Jenna (assassin turned housewife), Ben (a federal judge) and Artemis (a wealthy tech entrepreneur). Together they are part of a mystery buried on the grounds of Savior House

Twenty-five years later they are the targets of twin assassins with no idea who hired them. Ben is murdered by them and the other 4 all have attempts made on their lives.

The story is told from multiple points of view. Jenna, Nico, Donnie and the twin assassins. The one thing they are all sure of it has to do with what happened the night they ran away from Savior House.

They all end up back where it all started in Chestertown, PA home to the shuttered Savior House.

Not to give spoilers but who hired the assassins and why is revealed where it all started as the story is brought to closure.

The multiple points of view and time period changes made this book hard for me to read. I deducted a star because of this.

I do recommend this book to those who enjoy thrillers.

This is my first Alex Finlay book and I was very excited! I've heard amazing things about this author and had high hopes. Unfortunately, I found myself to be a little let down. For a thriller, this one didn't hold my attention and I found it hard to relate to the characters. I enjoyed the action within the book, but wanted more suspense. I will definitely be reading more from this author, to get a better gist of their writing style!

Read this book if you like fast paced action, multiple point of views, and expecting everyone to be the killer.

The Savior House sounds like an idyllic place for abandoned children to grow up but the name is more deceiving that you would expect. After leaving the home 25 years ago; Jenna, Donnie, and Nico believe that they've done the best they can with their life. When news of their childhood friend's murder reaches them, they realize that everything that happened can't be forgotten. Someone is hunting them and the only way to figure it out is to band together and provide safety in numbers.

Well, woah is all I can say in the forefront. This book is exactly what I like in a thriller with the quick chapters, unreliable narrators, and a whole lot of secrets! The book had a perfect balance of past and present and allowed you to feel the emotions of the characters incredibly well. Despite being a male author, Alex Finlay does an amazing job of narrating for both genders and you never feel the frustration of misinterpretation. Those emotions are REAL. This book had me racing to the end but each page provided a bigger and bigger twist.

Thank you to Alex Finlay, St. Martin's Press, and NetGalley for this ARC in exchange for an honest review. This book is out March 7th!

A group of kids thrust together under horrible circumstances are put into a group home fighting to survive. Some are bullied. Some hide their pain. But, some look out for each other. What follows is their tale, and their road to adulthood. Will they ever truly escape their past? Will they escape each other? What a fun thrill ride thanks to NetGalley for the early read!

I didn't want to put his book down!

Five teenagers find themselves living at Savior House foster home where life is cruel and girls disappear. A group action frees them physically but mental and emotional damage hinders them. Twenty-five years later they are being stalked and murder attempts are being made, one successfully so far, on each of the Savior House survivors.

The tension was palpable. The terror is heightened by violence. Who is behind the attempted murders< How will any of them survive a pair of brutally cruel hired killers. Working together they may have a chance?

Jenna, happily married and stepmother to two; Nico, a reality show producer; Art, a tech entrepreneur; Ben, a judge; and Donnie, a has-been rockstar. By outward appearances they couldn’t be more different. But they share a secret from their childhood in a group home that has come back to haunt them. Someone wants them dead and there's a contract out on their lives.

The premise is intriguing but told in dual timelines, the transitions were abrupt and often in the middle of a chapter with no warning.
The assassins were cartoonish, and of the three main character’s POV Jenna was the only one I enjoyed.

If you don’t mind outlandish scenarios that require a huge suspension of disbelief, assassin plots, and OTT action scenes, then you will enjoy this book more than I did.

I loved The Night Shift, which I gave 5 stars, but this type of story is a departure for the author and is simply not my cup of tea. While I appreciate an author trying something different, this had too much action, with too little character or plot development for my tastes. 2 stars for a "fair" rating. Many others enjoyed this far more than I did so check them out before deciding to give this either a skip or a read.

Love Alex Finlay’s works & this one did NOT disappoint. A bit of a slow (but strangely intense) build but the character development kept it interesting as the story moved along and you learned more about the 5 teens, Savior Home and dark secrets. Once you get past the initial chapters - the story moves quite quickly & I finished it in one sitting!

Lots of twists - highly recommend.

Thank you to Netgally & Alex Finlay for the ARC!!

Jenna, Donnie, and Nico have a bond forged in trauma. They were brought together in a foster home and torn apart after a murder. Years later they are being targeted one by one. But who is going after them? And what does it have to do with their past?

This is a fast read and I really enjoyed each of the characters and their storylines. Unfortunately I did find some things to be a bit predictable and the ending was a bit too clean. Overall a good read and an enjoyable thriller.

As kids, Nico, Benny, Jenna, and Donnie bonded at Savior House, a group home for kids. Their time there was full of trauma, as kids disappeared regularly, and they were bullied by the owner's son. However, they've all gone on to lead "regular" lives--with several of them even becoming famous. But soon they realize that someone is coming after them and has succeeded in killing Ben, a judge. As attempts are made on the others, the survivors must reunite and try to figure out why they are being targeted, even if it means returning to the horrors of Savior House.

I have come to really love Alex Finlay's books and while this one was a little different from the others I've read, it did share one trait: it was a total page turner. You have to suspend a little disbelief to fully enjoy WHAT HAVE WE DONE--it reminded me a little bit of a hellbent Rio Youers thriller at times. But it's a fun, crazy read and offers a great mystery.

DONE opens up with the Savior House kids committing a terrible deed as teens--jumping to their present-day lives, we see how that act (and their time at the home) has formed them into adults. We also can't help but wonder if the recent killing is related to what they've done. Not all of them are the most lovable characters, but each is interesting in their own way. We learn about Benny, a distinguished lawyer and judge, through his friends' memories. Nico is a producer for a reality show about coal miners (yup). Jenna has an interesting past and is concentrating on motherhood. And Donnie is a washed up rock star. While they might not all be close now, we see the power of their childhood friendship and how strong kids can be. The book covers some serious topics, including a range of abuse.

There's a lot going on in DONE and sometimes it seems like a little bit much. The short chapters always kept me reading, but the multiple POV and flashbacks to the group home could be overwhelming. Still, this was an exciting read that kept me guessing until the very end.

Pub date: 3/7/23
Genre: thriller
Quick summary: Three friends experienced tragedy at a home for orphaned teens - twenty-five years later, they'll have to find out who's targeting them again.

This book had a lot of potential - I loved the setup of the friends in the past and present timelines. Jenna, Donnie, and Nico were each compelling, and I couldn't wait to figure out their secrets. However, the story lost some momentum with the constant switching between past and present and among the different protagonists. These time shifts were not labeled, so it was really hard to keep track of what was happening. Good news: the ending wrapped up quite nicely with a few surprises, and I liked the themes Finlay explored.

If you've enjoyed Finlay's other thrillers, you'll probably like this one!

I dare you to read chapter 1 and not be floored right out of the gate! The twists, the turns, the multiple POVs, the cliff hanger short chapters! This book hits the ground running and you are running the whole time! This is easily a binge-worthy book! I highly recommend it!
