Although I quickly glanced through the book, unfortunately it disappeared from my shelf before I could actually try the projects.
From my quick look, it definitely didn’t seem like a book for beginners.

This was such a cute book! It has great designs for many different fantastical creatures with easy to follow instructions. For new beginners I might suggest to look up some videos of crochet stitches along with this book as learning to crochet just from pictures can be difficult.

I received an advanced reader’s copy , although the opinions are my own
I help teach people to crochet at the sit n stitch at our local library. We see all sorts of skills there, and I’m a fan of amigurimi -how fast it is and easy once you know the stitches. I requested this book because of that.
I would highly recommend it- something I could really appreciate is that he took the time to explain the difference between the UK terms and the US terms. This is really helpful as you go through different crochet books to know what you are looking at and the height difference.
Something else I loved about this book was the colored illustrations that showed exactly how to make each stitch (with the loop highlighted) with clear instructions on how to make each stitch. I’m looking forward to this book being available in the library for new crocheters.
I made the Gnome to be able to test out how easy it is to follow the pattern and the end result. He’s super cute if I do say so myself! Pattern was every bit easy to follow like I was hoping, I think I’m going to tuck him into the Christmas tree for a decoration this year. On my to make list is also the jackalope and the Ogre and maybe Lockness

I loved all the cute creatures, puns, and jokes throughout this book! Each of the patterns were easy to follow, the pictures were beautiful and showed off the animals wonderfully, and the crochet basics at the beginning were a nice refresher!
I think the Dandy-Lion and the Caticorn were my absolute favorite!

Awesome!! This has one the best instructions I have ever seen in a crochet book! So thought out and we’ll planned! The characters are adorable but I can’t lie the Dragon is my favorite! Great for new crocheters and experienced! Seriously even if you’re new to crocheting this book will help you bring your skills up a level!

Split up into two parts - part one goes through techniques needed to create amigurumi, and can be used as a reference manual or skipped altogether if you already have experience crocheting.

Part 2 consists of 20 amigurumi patterns of delightful magical creatures. Each pattern comes with a clear photo, a list of necessary materials and an easy-to-follow pattern description including assembly. Where necessary additional photos have been added to the instructions to explain the trickier aspects of the pattern.

I can definitely see myself making many of these, and especially love the dragon, the gnome and the enchanted mushroom.

So I was looking for a book that had a dragon pattern. I was excited to find this one. I have only made a few things, so it is as thrilled the patterns were so easy to read. Descriptive, but not in a way you feel overwhelmed. And you don’t often see patterns for things like a caticorn, a dandy-lion, flying pig, enchanted mushroom , etc. 10/10 recommend!

A great little book with some great ideas. I really liked the simplistic way the first stitches were laid out with the black and white illustrations showing exactly which thread to put where. I also liked the fact that you could swap different body parts out from the different creatures so you could have an endless array of monsters to make.
I think it would have been better to have the projects listed in order of ability as some of the early monsters looked harder to crochet than some of the later ones. but altogether a really fun book.

This was a great collection of crochet projects! The instructions were super easy to follow, and the addition of pictures made it easy for a beginner to follow. This would be a great book to use for crochet clubs and groups.

This book is so magical. With various fun patterns that build off one another and are unique magical creatures, I enjoyed interacting with this text.
This book includes an easy-to-follow introduction that leads seamlessly into the patterns. The Magic Ring is one of the trickiest parts of creating a crochet project like this, and I think this book does a great job explaining how it works with clear drawings that show exactly how tricky components are made.

Thank you to NetGalley for the Arc! What an adorable book with easy to follow directions. The animals are so cute and look easy enough to make for an intermediate crocheter.

This is such a good book for many levels! The author has a full intro that breaks down all the techniques, methods, recommendations, abbreviations, and more about amigurumi. He goes beyond just explaining what's in the crochet patterns but actually talks about safety eyes (and all the different types), using blush on amigurumi makes, HOW to read a pattern, and more (it's extensive)! This is such a good book for a beginner crocheter or a someone looking to get into amigurumi but too afraid to do so. It's an amazing resource, the patterns are great and clearly written, and I highly recommend it!
I especially love the DandeLion character and the Mushroom! Such cute designs and well written all around. Definitely a 5 star book!

I found that the instructions for this book were well done for the most part. I appreciated the introduction walking us through the various techniques and tools needed for knitting, as well as the conversion charts and some of the explanations. I also found the instructions for each of the patterns to be pretty straight forward. Now, this comes as someone who has. yet to take up a crochet needle and actually do something, not counting when I used to crochet endless chains as a kid watching after school cartoons at my grandmother's.

There were a number of magical creatures that I found truly cute, but there were also some that creeped me out a bit. All in all though, I liked most of the characters and patterns. I also appreciated the little stories to lead into each one and to give each creature a personality.

I will definitely pick this book up to try when I finally break that barrier and do something with the crochet kits I bought to start me out.

This little book contains instructions for crocheting some very cute and magical creatures of your own. The creatures range from dragons to cyclops, and even include the Loch Ness monster and several other mythological creatures. While most of these creatures are small, there’s also instructions to make the kraken much larger than the original pattern.

I really liked how the author wrote this – rather than just being simple instructions and explanations, fun metaphors and similes were woven through in a neat and entertaining manner. For example, in one instance where the author talked about accidentally splitting your yarn, they said it could lead to “non-magical curses” on your creature. Similarly, there’s a little paragraph before each creature with some folklore, rumors, or magical history surrounding them which was a lovely touch. The instructions are clear and easy to follow, and many of the creatures would be easy enough for beginners.

This awesome craft book is making me break my promise to not buy more yarn (oops!). I highly recommend this to anyone who loves crocheting and magical creatures!

A stunning book. Extremely detailed making it better for beginners to follow with all the pictures of stitches you need in the beginning of the book. The creatures themselves are easy to make and incredibly cute.
