Thank you, Center for Responsive Schools, for the advance reading copy.

I absolutely love the graphic novel. The anxiety representation is done with great care and sensitivity. I appreciate the author's work and the facial expressions hit hard.

It is a story of a girl whose anxiety prevents her to participate in normal activities and it's affecting her school life. As much as her parents and friends are supportive, she still struggles everytime she has to participate in any activity.

However, when one of her closest friends gets in trouble for a prank he didn't necessarily do she knows she has to stand up and speak up about it.

The ending is everything. Such a good book and I can't help feeling it is going to be so underrated.

And yes the cover can be so much better! The content has so many better illustrations.

Wow I've never read a book that talked about and showed executive dysfunction happening on a day to day basis like that!! So many people struggle with this, including me. This book did a really great job showing what anxiety and getting overwhelmed looks like from the perspective of the person with anxiety.

When Dawn enters the middle school science fair she scared her anxiety will be her biggest component but with her best friend James she may just see it through to the end. I thought this was a great comic and best of all my daughter loved it as well. As far as manga books go the animator of this one is definitely in my top three favorites. I received this book from NetGalley and the publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Smells Like Trouble is an welcome addition to the middle grades comics shelf — and I’d gladly add it to my classroom library. The style of the book is colorful and engaging, and I appreciated how the author tackled anxiety and relevant youth issues with adventure and moments of humor.

Thank you so much Netgalley for letting me review this book!

Reading 'Smells Like Trouble' was an exhausting experience of sorts. The narration is so well-written and the illustrations are so well-done that the story felt terrifyingly real. I connected to Dawn on such extent that after a few pages, it wasn't Dawn who was shrinking into herself due to irrational fear; it was me. I'm prone to anxiety, so there were a couple of relatable moments. Ugh. I don't know whether to praise it or get mad for the emotional ride. At any rate, it is definitely an amazing book. Highly recommended ❤️
