This is a marvelous Christmas tale, but that's only part of its charm. The characters are warm, complex, engaging, and worth the reader's attention. It's hard to find whimsy that also has a bit of weight to it, but the twists and turns, (both amusing and heartbreaking), that we go through make this a rewarding and truly magical read.

The Little Tale of Wintering, the final offering in The Snow Trilogy, defies the conventional notion of a trilogy. Each book stands independently, intricately linked by shared themes, events, and, of course, the ever-present snow.

This bittersweet Christmas tale is a blend of lighthearted enchantment and poignant emotion, coupled with an intriguing mystery, keeps readers engrossed until the final page.

Richard Easter possesses an undeniable knack for storytelling. Each of his books has taken me on an unexpected and wholly unique journey. If you're seeking a refreshing and distinctive literary experience, do yourself a favor and delve into these remarkable works.

This is the perfect Christmas book, and I would highly suggest it for YA readers. In addition to a plot that slowly reveals details as the book progresses, the characters are loveable and keep the reader engaged with the story. There is an element of mystery, of magical realism, and a twist at the end that both surprised me and brought tears to my eyes, too. I especially liked how the characters were fully invested in "applying magical thinking to reality to see what happens" and in a state of watchfulness to see how small actions could change the course of a day.

I was seeking out Christmas books as they are very popular in our library for the month of December, but unfortunately this one didn't blow me away. I'm personally not a romance/holiday reader, but I don't think this would be a winner with our readership.

Being new to this author I was unexpectedly surprised and will seek out his previous books.

The mention of Thomas Cromwell made me think this would be dark and serious but I actually found it to be a perfect Christmas read. Full of light hearted moments and whimsy with a touch of tragedy at its core.

Residents of Littel Wade have lost their Christmas spirit, can an unexpected find in a most unexpected place help to restore faith and merriment. With tragedy never far away and a cast of scrooges can Peter and Phoebe, teenage friends, unravel the mysteries surrounding their humble town and bring joy to the world?

I felt I had to join them on their magical journey and at times this was a little too contrived. However, the ending of the book is bittersweet and made me look at earlier events in a different light. I would want to believe in magic too!

When I first requested “the little tale of wintering“ by Richard Easter it sounded really good to me and I had no clue that I already owned the second book in this trilogy and although they are in no way related I couldn’t help but go and get the first book so I could read the entire trilogy and although I did find the first and the third book quite long I will say oh I absolutely loved these books! This book is about a little town who Crom well named in essentially doom the town to sadness but when strange items start popping up magic starts to happen. I don’t want to give anything away because nothing in the summary told me all the greatness the spoken tales but OMG… Read this book. I loved it and highly recommend it from the first page to the last you will be consumed with wanting to know what happens next. The characters are lovable the magic seems real and the story is all inspiring. I truly loved this book and the whole trilogy for that matter . If you love an authentic story told with magical realism you need to read the little tale of wintering by Richard Easter you won’t be disappointed. I received this book from NetGalley The publisher but I am leaving this review voluntarily please forgive any mistakes as I am blind and dictate my review.

Absolutely gorgeous book. I always seek out a Christmas themed read at this time of the year. This is one of the best I’ve read. I love magical realism and this novel has it in buckets!

The third in a loose trilogy, I read this without having read the other two, but would definitely read those now as I really enjoyed The Littel Tale of Wintering.

Peter Piper lives with his family in Littel Wade (named accidentally by Thomas Cromwell in a comedy of errors). Littel Wade is a small village where nothing really happens and Christmas is not celebrated in any meaningful way.

When Peter stumbles across some strange items that have the power to make Christmas better, he and his friend Phoebe set about bringing festivities to Littel Wade. There's comedy and pathos in this, as we discover why Christmas has also been hard for Peter, but ultimately this is an uplifting read and perfect for the festive season.

In the run-up to Christmas a mystery is about to be solved, one that the characters of this book did not know needed to be. Not wanting to give the game away to potential readers I can honestly say I didn't see the ending coming. A heart-warming tale of love, loss and hope for the future. As snow falls in Littel Wintering a gentle miracle occurs that will change the lives of the inhabitants subtly for the better.

This unique dark tale of the Christmas season by Richard Easter is the first I have read written by him. The Littel Tale Of Wintering is one of a sad little village, how it came to be cursed and what could be done to help it. Poignant in that it certainly follows the saying, “A little child shall lead them.” Why you ask? Because it is two young but teenagers that take up the task.

What starts out as a town in dire need of Christmas magic ends with exactly that but takes an unexpected turn along the way. The prologue and epilog go along way to explaining one character but not why Thomas Cromwell, Henry VIII’s chief minister behaved as he did. Not my favorite self-absorbed character ever!

While this is book three in the series it reads as a stand-along. I have already downloaded the first two since The Littel Tale Of Wintering left such a lasting impression on me. My only hope is that the first two do not have as much bad language in them as this one. Yes, I understand that it makes the characters seem more real but still not my favorite dialogue to read.

Good writing and a nice end to a trilogy. Feels a bit like a folktale at times. Interesting character and story.

Thanks very much for the free ARC for review!!

I loved this and now can’t wait to read the author’s other books. It is beautifully written, highly evocative and - thank goodness - something different.

In 1533, Thomas Cromwell steps into a frozen puddle, the ice cracks, and he ends up naming the village of Littel Wade in Dorsey. In 2019, Gregory Underbore goes to shoot a deer in the woods, and sees…something. In 2022, Peter Piper finds himself doing cleanup work for Mrs. Kerstmann, an neighbour with a strange sort of antique shop, and he finds a sleigh, with a mysterious ledger? List? Book with names in it. He teams up with Phoebe, a friend and crush, and they begin to sort out their winter mystery.

The Littel Tale of Wintering is an incredibly charming, twisty, Christmas story. Easter loops back and around, revealing what really happened. Over the days leading up to Christmas 2022, Peter and Phoebe try to unravel their mystery, and bring some festivity to the sombre village. I love a sweet and unique Christmas story, and this checks the box.

Another winters tale from Richard Easter I had read The Gentle Art of forgetting, and loved it. This is a nice addition o the wintery tales with out new protagonists attempting to deliver Christmas and change the mood of their dull village.
An unusual sleigh was found in a ditch, and some ledgers written over a period of time point to the surviving villagers.
An intriguing and gentle story.

Thanks to BooksGoSocial and NetGalley for this ARC.

I loved this. It's a Christmastime tale full of wonder, joy, love (plus the rekindling of all of those), guilt, and grief (and the at least partial assuaging of them).

It starts off a bit reminiscent of the 'narrator' in Max Porter's 'Lanny' where we're introduced to a village and some of its inhabitants by a mysterious voice.

We're familiarized with the village, its people, and its personality. The village is kinda dull and joyless and throughout the book we discover why that might be, and the efforts of two teenagers, an eccentric junkyard owner, and their two old ledgers retrieved from a decreasingly decrepit sleigh to rectify it.

I'm not going to spoil the journey for others by describing how they get there but there's magic in this book and it's lovely.

A wonderful story told in the style of old narrated folktales. You have a secluded town with a strange and cursed past, Can the source of this town's troubles be identified now and the curse finally broken? You are led through the town as objects are found, events are questioned and two children take on the task of figuring out the mystery and righting past wrongs. You will feel the wonder of the Christmas season. And you will wonder if this town is feeling the magic of Christmas or the magic of acts of kindness. Read as small actions by children transform this little town. A wonderful and inspiring read!

This has actual Christmas vibes, and I read it in September.
Non the less, it was charming and a little magical at times.
I enjoyed the voice of the two main characters, amusing, yet curious.
Entertaining.
